Was googling around for ideas and saw a picture of a fencer and decided to use it as a reference. A good excuse to keep avoiding faces, a fencing mask 😁

Colour, but in Shades of Grey

Wanted to try something slightly different, used the Bardot pastels to ‘colour’ the hand, but in black and white 😊

This should be my first full landscape “on my own” so to speak, no tutorials just a reference picture. Trying to remember and incorporate the various tips and techniques from the various tutorials and see if I’ve managed to absorb them or not 😊

Afternoon Matinee, Don Pasquale

I remember the good old days when an opera season would be at least five operas, I guess budget cuts hit everyone, now there’s usually only three to choose from. Last season they had some classic ones and we opted for one we hadn’t seen already, Donizetti’s Don Pasquale. A nice comedy, no murders or death, a fun way to spend an afternoon.

As always, you can take pictures before and at the end, not during the performance. Grabbed some snaps as everyone was waiting for it to start, the intermission and the end bows. Phones nowadays are pretty good 😊.

The 2024-25 season isn’t bad either, Die Fledermaus and the classic Madama Butterfly.

Landscape, Unfinished

A lesson learned. It’s okay to split a tutorial into a couple or more sessions, but don’t leave too many days in between sessions!

I was following this James Julier waterfall tutorial, but maybe because it was summer, I got distracted. I left too many days in between sessions and even with a bit of rewinding I found it hard to keep track of the layers and everything. In the end, I left it unfinished.

If I try again, I’ll just start it from scratch. Used the default brushes.

A Study of Clouds

I decided to try out some of the skills/techniques from the various tutorials I completed up to this point and paint something on “my own”.

A relatively quick painting of the sky and clouds using the default Procreate brushes. I used a photo I took as a reference.

People Practice, but in Colour

I’m trying to do a bit more “colour”, since I’ve always felt it wasn’t my forte. I should probably read some art tips, but for now I’ve just been winging it. Digital does make it easier, I duplicated my previous sketch and started colouring without worrying about ruining the “original”. 😊

People Practice

After the month long detour of Inktober, I’m back to the regularly scheduled program, back to posting in the chronological progression in my art journey 😊

Looks like I left off in June. This is my early attempt at getting back into drawing humans, especially full figures. Not ready for the details and hardships of faces yet, so drew a young woman sitting from the back 😊.

Inktober 2024 Day 31 - Landmark

Well, here we are at the end of October. Looks like I managed 17 out of 31, feeling quite proud of myself. Overall, I think I did pretty well 😊

While not perfect, it did get me to draw more often this month, I even tried out some brushes I hadn’t gotten to yet. Definitely a success for me. We’ll see how I feel in 2025, I’ll probably try it again.

As for today, here is the last ink sketch of the month for the landmark prompt, I tried to do the Golden Gate Bridge.

Inktober 2024 Day 30 - Violin

Here we are almost at the finish line. A quick sketch of a violin. 🎻

Actually practiced the symmetry drawing assist with this one. A nice, useful tool that I don’t always remember to use. The more practice the better 😊. I used the default ink brushes.

Inktober 2024 Day 27 - Road

I love the passenger side, can just enjoy the scenery and snap a few pictures without worry 😊. Used a quick snapshot I took the other month as a guide for this ink sketch for today’s road theme.

Inktober 2024 Day 25 - Scarecrow

A quick ink sketch for today’s theme, a scarecrow in a field.

Mostly winged it this time, couldn’t really find an image of what I had in mind so just used a few different ones as inspiration. It’s a lot easier with a good reference picture, I’m not the best at using just my imagination, still, it came out okay 😊

Inktober 2024 Day 24 - Expedition

I actually wasn’t sure what to draw for today’s theme, but I did some random image googling for the word ‘expedition’ and settled on Arctic expedition.
