The Northern Lights
Started 2025 with something ā€˜easy’, a quick tutorial to follow along to without stressing on what to draw. 😊
This is the James Julier Northern Lights Tree tutorial.

Caribbean Dinner
A few months back my mother expressed a craving for the Jamaican rice and beans as well as some curry goat. It took me a couple of tries to find the recipe, I was looking for beans, but it’s actually called rice and peas. Once I realized that I had no problems tracking down the recipes in my cookbook collection 😊
Decided to opt for curry lamb since goat is more difficult to source and more expensive, will try goat another time. Over all, I think it came out a very nice Caribbean dinner 😊

Sunset at Sea
The game kept going on tv, so I had time to draw something else 😊. Practiced with the Bardot pastels and tried to draw a sunset at sea. Used a picture I had taken on the ferry as a reference. Clouds are hard 😁
I think this should be my last picture drawn in 2024.

Under a Shady Tree
Did this one to pass the time while everyone was watching the game during the holidays, fortunately, I had my iPad 😊
I used the Procreate default brushes and a picture I took at a park as a reference.

Ferry Doodles - Seagull
Yes, another doodle. Had a few more minutes until docking so went back to classic pencils for a quick sketch of a seagull, from a picture I had on my camera roll.
Used the Manero pencil brushes.

Ferry Doodles - New Brush Test
December was a doodle heavy month 😊. Lots going on and doodles are a good way to relax, no pressure to be perfect.
I got some new brushes for Christmas, so I played around a bit to pass the time on the ferry. These are the Ittai Manero Thick Paint Oil brushes. Here I was just going through some of the brushes to see what they looked like, nothing in particular in mind, no textures or canvases, just brushes.
It kind of turned into an abstract landscape 😊

Some Airport Doodles in Pencil
Experimenting a bit with the new pencils and textures while trying to distract myself from the fact that I’m at the airport. Do not like the airport 😊
Some quick doodles of the other waiting passengers and my hand with the Ittai Manero Pencil brushes. I guess this is what you could call life drawing? 😊

New Brush Test - Pencil Doodles
I decided to take advantage of some Black Friday deals last year and got the Pencilmania set from Ittai Manero, these are the first quick test sketches I did with the new pencil brushes. Just some very quick doodles of less than 10 minutes each. They even come with some paper textures to give it that more realistic feel 😊.
(Used some google images as a quick reference, lady in a gown sitting and a horse 😊)

The Beauty of Colourful Glass
Last year I had the opportunity to go and visit the Chihuly Garden and Glass in Seattle. It was amazing!
I remember noticing some of his pieces years ago when walking past some downtown art galleries, prices of course were out reach, but one can still appreciate the beauty of the piece of art. When I discovered who the artist was I watched a couple of documentaries and really fell in love.
They said that there isn’t a set order to the large chandelier pieces, so anytime they need to be moved it’s actually a brand new piece 😊 If ever you are in the area, I definitely recommend going.

Magnolia 🌺
A quick dabble in watercolours. Still working on my technique, but….still better to throw some digital paint on a digital canvas, even if not perfect, than to do nothing 😊
Had a picture of a magnolia that I took the other spring, thought a classic flower might be a good subject to encourage my motivation. Used the Bardot Watercolour brushes.

Seashells by the Seashore
A softer colour palette for this next one. A quick pastel study of a clam at low tide.
Used the Bardot Pastel brushes and a photo I took at the beach as reference.

Daisy Flower
A pretty daisy using the default brushes. Also practiced with the gaussian blur adjustments to get that bokeh feel 😊
Not perfect, next time I should improve the yellow part, but it’s a journey, can’t get better if I don’t practice.
I used a picture of flowers I took as inspiration:

Green and Red Tomatoes
Guess I like tomatoes? šŸ… They are also one of the more eye catching vegetables when walking through the garden 😊
I used a slightly different tomato photo for reference, might have been the same community garden, can’t remember, although this time with pastels. Used the Bardot Pastel Brushes and simplified the background a bit.

View from the Ferry
Trying my hand at some not tutorial landscapes 😊
Used a photo I took from the back of the ferry as a reference for this ocean landscape. Tried to remember the various tips from both James Julier and Joel Create, overall, I think it came out okay. Used the default brushes and practiced with the gaussian blur adjustments in Procreate.
The photo I took and used as reference:

Green Tomatoes
I enjoy walking through the community gardens when I happen on them to see what people are growing. Took some pictures of green tomatoes a while back and decided to try painting them. Used the Bardot gouache brushes.

More Misty Mountains
Had another of those, I should draw something but not sure what moments and before I lost time and motivation, I decided to do a quick tutorial. Chose one of James Julier’s shorter videos for a nice art warm up 😊
