i think it's interesting that people who, for example, aren't using their very limited platform as fans on tumblr to exclusively share information and condemnation of neil gaiman, are immediately accused of 'caring more about themselves than the victims' or suchlike. this is fascinating to me, because our activity on the internet represents a mere fraction of what we do in every aspect of our lives.

tumblr is not and will never actually be the platform to consider everything a person is thinking, feeling and doing, because no such platform exists - not outside of the actual human brain. and all you people criticising others for not posting about this, or not posting about it in the way you want them to, seem as if you believe the only way to live life and prioritise what's important to you is through a fan website. which it isn't. generally, on this website you have no idea what someone's up to or what their beliefs are outside this facet of their online presence, which, by the way, is by no means exhaustive.

the most positive thing that posting about something like this on this platform can do is spread awareness, and sometimes provide some words of comfort along with it.

tumblr is not real life, and fortunately most people don't treat it as such. you are not morally superior for saying mean things about someone with 500 followers and no platform to make a tangible impact in this situation, all because they aren't reacting publicly exactly the way you think they should.

we should care about the things that are going on in the world. however, writing about them on the internet is, in a lot of contexts, probably the least substantial and tangible way to care about them in the grand scheme of things. tumblr can be a great emotional outlet, and a good place for discussion with people mostly similar to you, but it's not everything. just something to bear in mind i think

Also knowing these bits of fashion history is so priceless when you read old novels and stories. Like, once you know that a shirt was also underwear you really get how *bad* it is when in Anna Karenina Levin discovers the day of his wedding that they packed away all his clean shirts and he has no fresh linen to wear.

One very stupid thing that bothers me in historical romances and fanfic is the fact that male characters often take off shirts but stay in their breeches. The breeches aren’t the last layer of underwear, the shirt is. The shirt is the body linen— that’s the thing that goes against the skin and is the first thing to be put on and the last thing to be taken off— that’s the thing that is sewn by hand by wife/ sister/ daughter/ mother partly out of a lack of extensive manufacturing but because it is the most intimate layer of clothing and you don’t want a stranger’s work against your skin.

Is it just because to modern eyes it would look silly? Is this a case of “I got too interested in the material culture of body linens in the Regency era and now I know too much to enjoy myself”??

I'm realizing that the content I like/interact with the most over on Instagram comes from tumblr (either because I follow the same people on both platforms or because it's some sus "funny content" account reposting screenshots of tumblr posts, possibly stolen).

I opened a GO insta account only a few months back - out of sheer vanity, to be very honest -, but given their trumpesque change of policy and the reality of my experience there being just "stuff I've already seen on tumblr but square" I'm thinking I might get rid of it.

This year was very tough for me, especially when it came to mental health. But the GO fandom made me rediscover how much I love to draw, create about my hyperfixations and share in a fandom.

Btw before holiday season ends I need to share this fisherman figurine from the nativity scene that our municipality put on display in the town square because this queen is slaying and totally stealing the show.
