Hi! I'm currently writing an OC as part of a crossover fic between Yuri!!! On Ice and Free! that is Katsuki Yuuri's cousin named Saeko and is a secondary character meant to function as a bridge between the shows. She has a crush on Ko and basically hangs around the swim club to get close to her. Saeko promised her cousin to show Yurio around Iwatobi. As I haven't written an OC in a while I wondered if you had advice for this specific OC/scenario. If not it's fine but I figured I'd ask anyway.
Since there’s little info I can get on the OC, perhaps if you send in more info in the future (once the submission box is open) maybe I can help you out. I’m not into favoring crossovers nor have I done reviews regarding them before, to be honest. I’m more of an AU person.

Hey guys, I apologize for the sudden hiatus.
Previously, it was my senior year at college and I made myself to focus on final year projects, researches and stuff. I’m currently on break but I’m not sure if I can resume the OC Review business around here once internship starts. I won’t be handing this blog over to anyone no do I plan to.
We’ll see in time. The askbox will be closed for now, but I’ll answer the sent asks.

No more melted tomblerones or mising skulls, yyeann!
This is my basic process for pretty much everything I draw. The key is understanding the shape of the garment you’re trying to draw and the shape of the body part you’re putting it on.
Drawing the body first forces you to make the shoe, hat, or clothes fit that body. With practice you’ll be able to skip some steps. This method works the same no matter the perspective or pose. It just relies on your knowledge of what a hat looks like from above, or what the bottom of a shoe looks like. When in doubt, just google refs. Don’t necessarily need the exact angle you’re trying to draw. Look at different pics to give you an idea of how it works in 3d.
Shoes are always a bit tricky because feet are a stupid ass shape.
It might help if you think of hats as a cylinder fitted to the person’s head to help you get the perspective right before you push in detail. note: heads aren’t circles. they’re kind of egg shaped if you look at them from the top.

i have oc's that have been with me for almost a decade now (one of which has been inspired by the character InuYasha, and is my very first attempt at an oc.) this oc has come a long way since then, and I feel that I've changed her origins and looks enough to make her stand out from her old self. there's just one thing that's been bugging me. every time I attempt to describe her personality, i find myself blanking on it. pls help me.
HEY ANON~ I’m so sorry for the late reply. I just end my second-last semester of college and currently on a vacation so it means…this blog is on a Go-Go now.
On to your question.Personality is also a hard thing for me, even for actual professional fiction writers. I practice a few tactics when it comes to building personality for my characters and I hope you can make use of them too.
From the Background/HistoryI often think of a background story for my characters first before I build a personality first. Their current personality can be how something in their childhood affects them and their past one can be how before that something happens.
Personality first, then comes HistoryThis is a special rare case. Often I would mould traits that could go well with each other, place it in a character and somehow a background story would come rolling. Later I may or may not tweak the BG story idea a little to fit with their personality and their present/current storyline will affect their personality then.
InspirationEver watch two shows at one time (not simultaneously tho) and realize how some characters just reminds you of another and nothing major contradicts it? You can take inspiration from existing characters and add some tweaks (minor or major) to your character. There’s simply nothing wrong of taking inspiration from other works. Aveyard’s Red Queen is inspired by X-Men and Hunger Games and it’s still well accepted in the bookworm community.
I hope that helps you out. Do check out this link right here. This page really helps me a lot when it comes to finding personality traits for my characters. Again I apologize if this is quite a late answer.

geisha are absolutely not prostitutes btw
They are the equivalent to strippers here. They never engaged in sex acts but if you look throughout their history they were not treated well. Most being sold into that profession.

Can we know more about the awesome queen behind these spectacular reviews? 👸👑
THIS HAS BEEN IN MY INBOX FOR MONTHS. NOT BECAUSE I’M IGNORING YOU, BUT IDK WHAT TO TELL ABOUT MYSELF.
So uh…random shits, I guess??
I am the most sunburnt potato of all times (OVERCOOKED???) due to my college being located in one of the East Coast states of Malaysia and the Sun and its temperature there is like…the armpits of Satan.
In addition to that, I don’t and never will bother to try on whitening product. I merely bother with just facial-cleaning ones and that’s because I hate having my face feeling all dirty and ish? And I’m waaayyy too lazy to add on more products to my basket to whiten my skin up so… *shrug*
I merely know how to put on foundation, facial powder, lipstick/lipbalms and still suck at making my brows and eyeliner look on fleek. I still don’t know how to eyeshadow or pick the proper shade for my makeup that I have to drag my classmates who are more knowledgeable in it. The same goes with choosing hijab colours. I SUCK AT THEM.
I have never been to an anime convention before and I don’t know how the f it works. Also, I’m scared of what type of people I’ll meet there.
NGL, I prefer big cities like Kuala Lumpur or Penang to go on a holiday. There’s just so many things to do/look/visit there.
SO YEAH, HOPE YOU DON’T MIND THE LATE REPLY, ANON, AND THE RANDOM FACTS.

lol I used to be that Kagome-Suethor's fan until one day I realize how toxically unpleasant she is. Ironically rants on 'DON'T LIKE, DON'T READ' on her FFnet (Don't be surprise that it's still a thing going-on) but proceed to rant about an InuYashaxUta Prince crossover fanfic being bad when she could have dropped a review about it. (IDK, smells like scared of competition to me) Also, when I read her 'rant' about it on her FB, I literally thought 'gurl u sure u ain't talkin to a mirror??' lol
We’ve all been there, Anon, we’ve all been there. I used to be a fan of some toxic Suethors (who, some to this day, refuse to change…despite being 20+) back in my weeb-n00b days. Those were the dark times, and I’m glad I wasn’t noticed by them now tbh.
Surprisingly, yeah. The whole ‘Don’t Like, Don’t Read’ fiasco is still going on…but it needs to die, seriously. Adding it makes you look more like you reject change or criticism and merely up for the ass-pats. Same goes with ‘Story good, even if summary suxz’ thing.
Tumblr media
Not gonna be surprise if someone like her rants about the lack of certain types of fics around. I rant about OCs but I encourage OC-creator to improve rather than ‘CEASE TO EXIST, CEASE COMPETITION 4 ME!!11′.
OML LMFAO ‘Talkin to a mirror’. Good one, I nearly snorted my Calpis from it.

What's up with people thinking Nanami's the biggest sue ever to exist in Uta no Prince-sama's universe? They should have seen OCs being reviewed by this blog (and possibly other blogs out there. IDK if there are such ;;;) because Nanami had be out-sue-d by these OCs.
My fucking sentiments, Anon.Nanami’s supposed to be a self-insert of the player(s), but even so, her level of /supposedly/ Sue-ness is super tame and is not overly cringey in my opinion.
Unlike most of the OCs I’ve reviewed in the past.

Y'all think that Nanami is the biggest sue ever to exist in the universe of UtaPri? Well, amateurs, prepare to have your perspective change and meet Kagome "Gou" Fuji Higurashi, Nanami's 'replacement'. [In other words: Help me ease this internal pain, Mod Mori. This Sue is so bad. WORST PART: SHE'S MULTI-UNIVERSE.]
I… I can’t seem to put my sentiments into words. This Sue is just… no words does justice to how characteristically bad it is. SHE BASICALLY MADE NANAMI LOOK TAME AND PLAIN JANE AS FUCK, IT’S NOT EVEN FUNNY. I’ll just leave these GIFs for your own conclusion of my feelings right now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(ngl I could actually hear Syo saying WTH in that GIF…even if that’s not part of the script)
Oh and fuck me, if there’s any mega pet-peeve in me in a clusterfuck of peeves, it’s multi-universed Sues. I feel like there’s something lazy about characters that are used for way too many universes. Using one for two similar fandoms (ex. an OC for both Haikyuu and KnB) is fine but overloading it just makes your OC look more bleh. What is the point of calling your multi-universe Sue an ORIGINAL character if there’s nothing original about them being the same in different universe?
I might just review this one, Anon, once the semester is over. (P.S: Never underestimate the power of college stealing your time and energy plus sanity.)

Mori, I need your help! I'm making a kurobas oc whose parents are divorced. She was 15 when it happened. Is it possible that the custody went to her grandmother? ;w; Thanks a lot!
Hello Anon~
I’ve never experience any custody-fighting issues, directly or indirectly, so my understanding about it is a bit shabby. I merely know/understand (please correct me if I’m wrong) that if both parents could not fulfill the criteria of taking care of their child, the custody would go to the maternal side of the family (if I wasn’t mistaken) and most likely to the grandparents, who has the closest relation to the couple and their child, so yeah! I’d say that you’re on the safe side so far. (owo)b
I’m not quite experience in custody matters, so anyone who has any gist of it, you’re more than welcome to add in more info ;w;

IDK about the mod(s) but I have a pet peeve of seeing OCs randomly paired with characters that aren't even fully revealed of their personality yet. The rest of HEAVENS in UtaPri other than the main trio in S2, for example. Because I'm scared that I'll eventually have a liking towards them but they'll butcherize them into some love-sick baboon by these Suethors and stray /WAY FAR/ from their actual personality. At the same time, I'm aaalll about OCs. So yeah ;;;
I feel ya, Anon. u-u);; I don’t want these canons to get butcher personality-wise and being turned into some love-sick buffoon who’d throw it all away for some OC either (even if I don’t like Eiichi as much as I do with Syo).
My memory of this trick when it comes to writing/pairing canons with an OC but their personality has little to no exposition is a bit fuzzy but I’ll try my best to explain.
The basic trick if you want to pair an OC with a canon, whose personality has little to zero exposure, is to evolve the personality with the basic ones/what has been exposed. Ex. we know that Ryuya’s lil bro Yamato declared himself the strongest member of HE★VENS and he has a ‘COME AT ME BRO’ attitude towards that issue and those who says otherwise. Thus it’s safe to develop his personality around those traits and for OCs to think that he’s arrogant due to this confidence of his.
Hope that makes sense. ;;

Hello! I saw a post here on your blog about not changing canon characters personalities for ships, and I wondered if that applied in general too. Is it okay to change their personality in general for a story in the original universe, or what about in an AU? Thanks!
Changing canon character’s personality for an AU:I wouldn’t really recommend that. If it’s a slight change and doesn’t affect their basic personality, it’s fine. But entirely changing it, might as well opt for an entirely different story with an entirely different cast of characters.
Changing canon character’s personality for an original universe:Still wouldn’t recommend it if you plan to keep the same character. It would be recommend if you opt to write a completely/entirely original/different story for it instead.

A little random but, thoughts on Haruka Nanami? I don't think she is a mary sue. I just think she more of self insert for the audience than a dynamic main character. I think she would be better as a side character so something.
I think so too. She strays far from what Mary Sues usually are (Doesn’t easily gets what she wants, her past isn’t that oh-pity-me-woe tragic etc.). Plus, the creators could have work on more towards her role as a dynamic MC imho.

Anonymous asked:
My female protagonist begins the story choosing to leave a small, known world for larger adventure. The action begins when she helps a politician’s adult son escape a coup. Now I’m struggling to divert the characters from a cliched love story subplot - I worry that she won’t be strong enough if her emotions focus on this male character. Is there a way to keep her focused AND explore a romance, or is it wiser to drop the possible relationship and keep the plot entirely about her personal journey?
It is entirely up to you. If you want to write a story without romance, there will certainly be people who will enjoy reading it. If you feel these two characters have a natural chemistry and you want to explore that, that’s absolutely fine. :) Here’s the thing… there’s absolutely nothing wrong with romance. Romance doesn’t make a character weak, and it doesn’t automatically undermine the strength of a female character. There are many wonderful female characters who are in no way diminished because they are in love. If you want to write a romantic sub-plot into your story, do it! There are things you can do to keep it from diminishing your protagonist’s strength: 1) Make sure she can stand on her own two feet. In other words, she doesn’t run to her love interest (or someone else in general) every time she has a problem. While it’s fine to seek help from others when necessary, she shouldn’t depend on the help of others. 2) Avoid “damsel in distress” syndrome. It’s fine for your character to be rescued by her love interest once in awhile, but has to rescue herself sometimes, too, and it wouldn’t hurt if she rescues him every now and then. In other words, it should be more or less equal: her saving herself, her saving him, him saving her, other people saving them both. Just not always him saving her. 3) Avoid “I’ll have to ask my boyfriend” syndrome. This is when the character is unable to make any decision without first considering her love interest or putting her love interest’s needs before her own. Now, there are times when it makes sense for your character to consider other people in her decision making process–that’s just life–but the reader needs to see that she’s not going to sacrifice her own important goals for the sake of love. 4) Avoid over-the-top gushing. When people are in love, they tend to gush a bit about their new love interest, but it can get old really fast in fiction. With a romantic sub-plot, especially, you want to go for something a bit more subtle. It’s okay for your character to think about their love interest from time-to-time, of course, but there doesn’t need to be paragraphs long soliloquies wherein your character divests every single thought and feeling about the person. There also doesn’t need to be an excessive amount of eyeballing muscles, pearly white teeth, great hair, etc. It’s okay for the character to notice and mention these things occasionally, but it can damage your character’s credibility if it seems to be all they think about. Hi! So I'm creating an OC for Free! and I was wondering if you could help me in terms of what would be the healthy weight and height for a 17 year old female? Also, do you have an email address that I could send this OC to, once she's finished?
Hey there.
I can’t give you the height and weight for it, since there’s a lack of information on what she does as what one do can affect their height and weight (Is she a normal OC who enjoys indoors or an athlete? Or an active person [ex. a student council member]?). Therefore, I will give my thoughts once I receive the profile.
My e-mail is [email protected]

Are contradictions in a character's personality okay if there's a reasonable explanation for it? (Ex. Character A is a very talkative and friendly person but if forced to work with Character B, who did something bad to A in the past, A won't say much and try to keep their distance.)
It’s fine, as long as it doesn’t strays away too much from their actual personality. Going with the example you just gave, Chara-A may be quiet around Chara-B but still will talk to other characters that they’re fine with.
