NEW PROJECT|| Ejaaz - The Mood
To the soundcloud world The Mood is a 7 track project, but to those who bought the Physical CD or has heard the slow mix they’ll realize it’s actually 8 songs. I’ve got to chill with Ejaaz and talk to him about this project. From how it was created, to doing production work on it, and how much he actually put into it. The Mood has been in the making for three years now and I can see why.
This is definitely one of my favorite Ejaaz releases since he dropped Ideal a few years back. I could tell the work and passion put into this piece. I honestly fuck with every track on this project a lot. I love that it has a hint of the old Ejaaz but also keeps his new sway present. That being said there isn’t a track I dislike.
My top three favorite tracks would have to be Forever featuring Dave Jeff. Ejaaz did the original production work on this track and had Native Nomads Dave Jeff spice it up a bit. I actually got to peep the original cut before Dave touched it. I liked it a lot both ways but am super stoked on the final project. My second favorite track would be Once Said. It has that old Ejaaz vibe with beautiful intro followed by Ejaaz coming in strong. My Favorite track of all from the project would have to be 9 months. As many of you know Ejaaz and the indy seen lost a great DJ and over all amazing soul name Blott Bloyy. This song captures Ejaaz’s feelings about the situation very well. The second the track came on I gold cold chills. I can’t forget to shout out the hometown anthem naptown being on this project too.  So definitely give this project a listen and remember to “Live Your Dreams Or Be Vacant.”

“Lord Khan” an Interview with Mula Khan
The first time I heard Mula Kkhan was about three years ago now. It’s crazy to think it’s been that long already. He shot me a message asking to peep his tunes and I was instantly drawn into his sound. I immediately stuck out my hand and offered to bring him along the ride and promote him no matter what. We became good friends and have always supported each other’s movements. I recently got the chance to catch up with Kkhan and discuss his new project, his new young one on the way, and more.
______________________________________________________________________
Eyerises: So I heard you got a baby kkhan on the way, how are you feeling about that ?
Mula Kkhan: I'm excited for Baby Kkhan... I have 2 already so it's like I'm used to it but I'm hype af.
E: Can you let us inside of your mind when you create a track, What does Mula do to get into that creative zone ?
MK: Usually how I get into creative zone is basically feeling and vibing out to the instrumental. I feed off the energy of the beat and freestyle a few topics and go with the one I feel like sounds the best.
E: Who are your musical inspirations ?
MK: My musical inspirations I have so many bruh... lol like I love Wiz khalifa, I love Kendrick Lamar , Asap Rocky , and Schoolboy Q . They all inspire me . Old school inspiration . The whole crunk movement lol lil Jon, Ludacris, Gucci Mane , people like that . I forgot to mention Nispey Hussle and Dom Kennedy.
E: What made you want to pick up rap and really take a shot at this ?
MK: Brandon Jones made me really want to take a shot at this . He stayed on my ass in high school about this music thing.
E: INLYAM is still one of my favorite projects to put on rotation. Can you tell us a bit about this new project you're dropping?
MK: This new project is titled KKHANO. It's basically a new introduction to me and more of trap wave side of me . I have some songs on the tape with different type of sounds and flows I normally don't use . Might here some auto tune lmao.
E: What should we expect from Lord Kkhan in 2017 ?
MK: You should expect more KKHANO sounds haha more wave more energy and more music !! Maybe a tour . Maybe INLYAM 2 . Idk haha
E: What artists are you aiming to work with in 2017 ? I see you're always working with someone new.
MK: I really plan to work with Sirius blvck and Adrian bless that's my main focus and more song with the homies fresco and mezzo.
E: Aside from music what are your favorite things to do ?
MK: My favorite thing to do it play 2k I'm not even going lie to you bruh lmaoo and eat haha
E: I've seen you play live before and I respect that you rap over a bavk track and not the actual song. Can you tell us where we can catch you live sometime soon so others ?
MK: Well my release show is December 23rd for KKHANO. I have 2 shows booked in January and one is the bangover.
E: How did you come up with the term Catch That Wave or the Wave God ? What inspired you to be so Wavy ?
MK: I feel like the people gave me the name wave god . The term came from my homie nelaj while we were in work release . He said I had the wave before I realized it . The homies and drugs haha inspire the wave . How I ride the beat is just smooth and wavy . Something I picked up from listening to Wiz and Curren$y .

“Suicide Radio” - Pope Adrian Bless (EP Review)
I had the honor of being blessed by the owl God with Suicide Radio two weeks before it’s release date. It’s now a couple days until it’s release and I’ve had this 4 song project on constant repeat. Some of my favorite Pope Adrian Bless work yet. It’s not Birdcage but it’s what I would want from a Pope and Dave Jeff collaboration. Pope’s Spoken word and charismatic style goes well along side Jeff’s ambiance and pleasurable instruments.
_______________________________________________________________________
The project starts with a track called Green Apple gatorade. It comes in with a spoken word but catchy ass style flow with a bare minimum instrumental, or so you think. About a minute in the beat drops and pope automatically has you hooked and It only get’s better from here. Zombie is one of my favorite tracks on the project and by far the most catchy of the four in my opinion.  Every track is catchy don’t get me wrong.
Dave Jeff actually blesses us with a feature on the third track Now/Later. I’d say Dave did exceptionally well with this project as a whole. Jeff produced, engineered, made the cover art, and features a dope part to start the second half of the EP. One of my favorite artists for sure.
My favorite track and the one to end the this Ep, Problems. Slow, ambient, but head bobbing eat the same time. How does this happen ? Oh, because pope makes it happen. I constantly find myself singing this song throughout the day. Overall this project is really strong. I wish it would have been more than four songs, but I guess it wouldn’t be an EP then. I’m super blessed to of had the chance to bump this project almost 24/7 for the past two weeks. If you get the chance do not sleep on this project.

An Interview With The Illiest Billie. Gary Carmike
First introduced on one of our first segments “Six Artist’s To Know” Gary Carmike is being featured again but this time we’re catching up with him about his newest project ill- Billies, which is entirely produced, mixed, mastered, and even sung on by Jesse Anderson. Carmike plants his feet down in Muncie, Indiana as one of the most talented lyricists around there. Full of skill, technical flows, great content, and influenced boom bap beats he’s sure to draw you into his world somewhere.
I first heard about this new project when asked to play the release show last month. Talk about a performance. Carmike doesn’t even need a beat to slay a few bars for the crowd while stuff gets setup late due to the sound man. He kept everyone occupied and feeling welcome as his first track came on. Every song he played got better and better. After the show i got in my car and inserted the new CD Ill- Billies and was immediately sucked in. Now we’re here to talk to the man behind this piece of art that is the Ill- Bilies.
_______________________________________________________________________
Eyerises: How did you and Jesse Anderson come up with the concept for this project?
Gary Carmike: Okay, so this is the deal. I don't like the majority of pop or "mainstream" music. It's too simplistic (in a bad way) and boring/corny to me. Unfortunately pop is pop because a lot of people like it and a lot of people liking your music is obviously a key component in being successful so I decided to create a project with a mainstream vibe (as far as the beats and hooks were concerned) without comprising my lyrical integrity in order to appeal to a wider audience. I mostly wanted to do it to show people my diversity because my music usually had a 90's underground hip hop vibe. When Jesse first approached me with the beats for the project I was blown away because it was exactly what I was looking for with this concept. The whole "iLL BiLLiES" thing just comes from an outsiders perspective of Indiana being nothing but hill billies. I wanted to flip the hill billy thing to show there is much more than that here in Indiana.
E: Okay, that’s really a dope concept and way to approach a piece.I’d definitely say you did it well too. I’ve listened to this project time after time now and have come to love it. Is there anything you wish you could have done differently or just didn’t get to do ?
GC: We actually did a lot more than we originally anticipated. It started off as a little 5 track EP and blossomed from there into 10 tracks. One thing I'd like to do in the future with Jesse is sit down and write a song together from nothing as apposed to him making the beat, recording the hook and emailing me the final product to write to. We've talked about doing it like that but conflicting schedules prevented it from happening on this project. I know it's something we'd both like to do eventually.
E: I’ve learned working in person will definitely have a better outcome in the end. The whole flow and process feels amazing. You can blend and work with each other’s style and bounce ideas off of each other more direct. Speaking of style where did your over all inspiration come from for your style ? It’s definitely one of it’s own so we’d love to know how it came about.
GC: When it comes to rapping I studied all of the greats from what I consider Hip-Hops golden era, the 90's. I've been skateboarding on and off (I recently started skating again after a 5 year hiatus) since I was 12 and through the music they played at my local skatepark I was introduced to Big L, Tupac, Biggie, Wu-Tang, Gangstarr and countless other artists from that time.  When I started rhyming myself it was naturally the direction I wanted to go with it (bringing back that 90's sound) Then Joey Badass beat me to the punch haha. As far as subject matter is concerned I try to stay as true to myself as possible. Growing up i was and still am what most would consider a geek. I was obsessed with cartoons, particularly Anime, and still love all of it to this day. Especially Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z. That's why I put it in my rhymes, I wanted to make it cool to be that geeky little white kid and I wanted to do it by being myself.
E: I think your voice is what makes you the artist you are. The last time we talked you spoke of not liking your voice at first, but you love it now. What steps did you take to get your sound to something you love ?
GC: Getting more comfortable with rapping and focusing on working on my delivery is what helped me most. Long story short, I was better at writing rhymes than I was at rapping them. I actually just listened to my first song I ever released yesterday. It's called "420 bars" and it's 17 minutes and 52 seconds long haha. I got inspired by 300 bars by The Game and decided to release something similar as the worlds introduction to Gary Carmike. Even though it was my first song circa 2011, I'd still consider a lot of the lyrics dope by today's standards... However, my delivery was non existent and my flow was in my opinion garbage haha. I'm my own worst critic but that's just how I feel and that's why that song is no longer on the Internet. It's safe to say I've improved dramatically since then though. I just worked my ass off on getting better in the areas where I was lacking I even dropped out of college because it was distracting me from rapping.
E: Dropping out of college, man that’s crazy. Do you regret that at all ?
GC: No not at all. College also just wasn't for me. I have to be passionate about something in order to really dive into it and I've never been into school like that. I've also never bought into the idea that you have to go to college to be successful in life. I'm hoping I'm right about that haha. I was going to major in telecommunications. I love editing film. I've actually edited/directed all of the music videos I've released up to this point by myself. Once again it all reverts back to skateboarding, I taught myself how to edit skate videos my freshman year of high school and it all just progressed from there.
E: I just wanted to say I’ve noticed how clean this project is compared to some of your others. Where did all of the engineering work go down ?
GC: Jesse did all of the mixing and mastering himself. This is the first project I've done where I wasn't directly involved with the mixing and mastering and I have to say, he did a really great job. I'm very particular about how I want things to sound so I usually do my own mixing but after this project I've decided to let that be someone else's job from now on. It's also much easier when all you have to do is plus he does things with my vocals I would have never done myself (auto tune, chopping them up, etc.) which all turned out great. He made the beats and recorded his vocals at his house, sent them to me, then I wrote and recorded my verses at my place in my home studio and sent him the raw vocals. This group called the Postal Service I was really into in middle school did an entire album that way ("Give up") and it turned out to be really good so I was slightly inspired by that. You can expect much higher quality music from me from now on.
E: I’ve got my few favorites that stand out and i get hype about every time. My favorite features a local name Flaco. It definitely has a message behind the track to. Do you care to speak about it ?
GC: The song is called "Lame$" and we based it off of how fake the hip hop music industry is. Jesse came up with the initial inspiration for the song via the hook and Flac and I expanded on it from there. We've all heard through the grape vine about rappers renting super expensive cars, mansions and jewelry for their music videos to make it appear like they have more money than they actually do. Another thing I talk about is how a majority of these rappers claiming to be selling drugs and killing people are completely fabricating that lifestyle while some little 13 year old boy might hear them rapping about that and become influenced by it in a negative way. If you're actually out there being about that life then by all means rap about it but if not that's just fake and lame to me. That's why it's called Lame$. The song almost didn't happen with Flaco on it. When I approached him about it he initially turned it down because he was up to his neck in features and busy working on his project "Scorpio King" but a few days later he hit me up like "yo send me that beat" haha. Shout out to Flac man, he's a beast.
E: You all definitely slated your parts. We’ve talked about the tracks I like, but what are you favorites  from the project ?
GC: My absolute favorite is the intro track "gAME tIME"... When Jesse first sent me the beat my girlfriend and I were chilling together and we both freaked out over it. We started dancing as soon as we heard it haha. The "announcer" vocals at the beginning are actually Jesse's which is really cool because that means he's on every track except for 2. I just love that song it was really fun to write/record and I really enjoy performing it. My other two favorites are probably "fIREsTORM" and "the RAPture" just because I did some personal venting on both of those tracks. There's a lot going on in our country/the world right now and those twos songs helped create a release for me. I like the whole tape though really. It's unlike anything I've ever worked on and I'm very proud of it.
E: You should definitely be proud of this project, man. Is there anything else you would like to say about it ?
GC: Thanks Homie, this project took me completely out of my comfort zone. Besides "gAME tIME" and "bAGELS" I've never made anything even remotely close to any of the other songs on the tape. "LoNg RoAd" (another one of my favorites) and "fIREsTORM" are good examples. I like to cuss in real life so I usually do in my songs but Jesse challenged me to write the two songs radio friendly instead of going in later and editing them to make clean versions. I successfully wrote both songs plus a third song (fEELING yOU) without cursing or saying anything that needs bleeped out while refraining from dumbing myself down lyrically. Jesse and I have never worked together before and luckily our musical chemistry ended up being very organic. Nothing forced at all, it all just worked out perfectly. Shout out to him for even approaching me to do this project, in retrospective I'm honored. I honestly had no idea he was so dope at what he does but I do now.
E: That’s really dope. It was nice chatting with you with about this new piece. I can’t wait to hear more from you and one last question for fun before you go. Who are your favorite art its right now ?
GC: Absolutely man thanks for having me. Locally my favorites right now are Flaco, (and the whole Bored. Collective honestly) KEEF the Phonomancer, and my homies/mentors Merc Versus and Goldeneye's hip hop band "Planet Boombap". They are all not only great emcees and recording artists but they are all incredible performers. Also Arhythmetik is super dope. Those dudes are all awesome and they push me to go harder and harder with each project. As far as famous folk are concerned my favorites are Slim Jesus and Stitches. Just kidding haha. I pretty much just stick with all of my old school 90's influences most of which I mentioned earlier. I do like Kendrick though and I have a new favorite white rapper by the name of "Rittz" he's super dope.
Oh, and on last thing. I will be giving out free features all year.
