hear that? yeah that's my heart shattering
You know what ? The idea that Odysseus discovered his mother's death by finding her ghost in the Underworld gains a new, even more sad dimension if you assume that Epic follows the Odyssey, because according to it, she didn't just die of grief - she died by walking into the sea after seeing Aeolus' storms blow Odyseus' ships away from shore
Not only did Odysseus' crew get him lost at sea yet again, but they also killed his mom

I agree but I don't think he was that shocked at Ody's decision because his "but we'll die" doesn't sound angry at all and I don't think it even sounds disappointed, he sounds surprisingly calm, he is just starting to realize the situation and accepts his fate. Because in the end, after all the bullshit both of them have done, he still loves and respects Odysseus like a brother and so does Ody.
The crazy thing to me about Eurylochus staging a mutiny is like... He's such a worse captain? Like this guy delivers shit call after shit call and then is all "How dare you" when Odysseus makes a hard decision that very well could have been the right one.
Like in the third song, he's like, "let's take 600 men and go raid this island and kill everything in our path." Then it's "let's kill the Cyclops and lock us all in his cave," and then when Odysseus is being all big brain and they are explicitly surrounded by Cyclops, he's like, fuck it, lets run for our lives actually.
And then mother fucker opens the wind bag when they're five minutes from home because he just routinely makes a habit of not trusting the guy who's like a brother to him.
And then he wants to leave the men on Circe's island. Just fuck those guys. And Odysseus says no actually those are my guys I'm gonna save them, and Eurylochus has a whole song bitching and moaning about please let's just screw those guys she's so scary.
And then as if that's not enough, Odysseus makes a call that you just know breaks his fucking heart, and Eurylochus, who has killed 567 men with his own curiosity, looks at the man who killed 6 out of necessity, and says "I could be a better captain than you."
And Odysseus forgives him. Until the very end he's begging Eurylochus to just listen. To just trust him. "We can get home." He doesn't plan to leave Eurylochus behind, he wants to get them both home. He doesn't abandon Eurylochus until it becomes either or. And even then he has the decency to feel sorry about it. To mourn him. To remember him as a brother and not a traitor.

Imagine this.
You’re chilling in your room, probably messing around on your guitar when your dad calls you into the living room.
When you get there you see a number of your family members - mostly your annoying half-siblings but a few more distant realizes, all gathered around arguing. Your dad turns to you and says “your sisters’s best friend is stranded and she wants to go pick him up”
You pause because what? You sister doesn’t really do friends, and you’re pretty sure she broke contract with her last so-called bestie. But sure whatever, you’ve never met the dude.
“And?” You prompt because you could working on a new song right now.
“What are your thoughts?” Your dad asks and oh shit- you don’t even remember this guy’s name and now you have to have an opinion on him???
You’re Apollo from epic the musical btw

The difference between the please don't make me do this in the horse and the infant and the please don't make me do this in thunder bringer is another really cool detail in Epic for me.
In the horse and the infant, Ody doesn't know that his actions will haunt him and his crew on their journey home yet, he beggs Zeus to leave him in peace and is scared of the consequences his actions, the death of an innocent child will have (as I already explained in an earlier post)
BUT in thunder bringer, the pleaaseee is so much more desperate, so much more emotional, as Odysseus already knows that he can't get out of his situation AND he already knows that he will choose himself over his crew even if the guilt will eat him alive. He still beggs Zeus to stop, to not let him choose the death on his crew and "betray" them. Also the I know... after Eurylocus says but we'll die sounds so calm(?), he's not yelling, not begging but he is in shock, maybe even disgusted at his own actions.
I'm absolutely obsessed and the wisdom saga is EVERYTHING btw I LOVE Telemachus so much😭😭

Aight now let the God Games begin.
Apollo: Uh I... Like killing that many Sirens was slight overkill don't you think?
Athena: Tbf the sirens are massive bitches...
Apollo: Fair, that was good vocal work sis, let him go.
Hephaestus: Trust is not given it's FORGED (winks) you see what I did there? Anyways he sacrificed his entire crew that wasn't his best moment.
Athena: Yes, but if you let him go, he can still BUILD a future with his fam.
Hephaestus (laughing): Good one, let him go.
Aphrodite: Odysseus should have been home sooner then his Mom wouldn't have died.
Athena:
Athena: Wtf seriously?
(Quick Thought)
Athena: Come on, Aphrodite.
Ares: DON'T MESS WITH MY GIRL ALSO YOUR ODYSSEUS IS A SLY BITCH JUST LIKE YOU AND HIS SON'S A LOSER.
Athena: (rage activate) DON'T YOU DARE SPEAK OF MY BOY LIKE THAT!
Ares: gods okay chill
Aphrodite: awww so cute you do have a heart
Athena: Besides Ares we can watch ody kill all those assholes in his palace and I'll get popcorn.
Ares: GREAT FUCKING DEAL!
Hera: Look I've been pretty pissed at Zeus lately just gimme one good reason.
Athena: So he's smart.
Hera:
Athena: He's... Uh... Did I mention he's smart?
Hera:
Athena: He's kinda funny.
Hera: seriously?
Athena: Okay goddamnit he's not a serial cheater like Dad alright?
(Collective gasps, Hermes is lying on the floor laughing silently)
Apollo: Oh wow.
Artemis: She actually just said that.
Athena: (internally) shit fuck just act like you didn't just say that.
Hera: Husband goals, let him go.
Athena: (internally) act natural... (To Zeus) So I won, let him go.
Zeus: You little shit-
(lightning)

I know its obvious, but I love how Apollo and Hephaestus literally seemed like they were pulled out of nowhere and handed a binder of everything Odysseus did up to that point and had to come up with a reason to hate him on the spot.
At least Hephaestus sounded like he gave a bit of effort, skimmed the info and provided a fair argument with what he had.
Apollo was like the kid who started working on his homework while the teacher's collecting papers. Like "Huh? Wha? Odysseus? Oh uh" *flips files to a random page* "Pfpfpfprllflfrrr i dunno, he did something to some sirens and uhhh, they sing and i like singing sooooo...yea not cool"
Athena: But they tried to kill hi-
Apollo, already turning away and pressing the golden button: Yeyeyeyeyeyeaa he's aight he's aight release him or whatever can i go now-

If you listen to Thunder bringer and then to the Thunder bringer part in God games, you can clearly hear a difference in Zeus' voice.
In Thunder bringer he sounds confident, calm-ish and powerful- as he should cause Ody can't do anything against him anyway.
That's not the case in God games tho. When he sings the Thunder bringer part there, his voice is raspy, showing his anger, his fury at athena for "beating" and embarrassing him, which also shows how fragile his ego is. He is the mighty, invincible one when mortals piss him off, but when his (favorite) daughter, a goddess, does something he does not want to happen, something that makes him seem weak among the other gods, he's not playing games anymore and not holding back to hurt anyone, mortal or god, as ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves(hehe). I really like how many details are in the musical
rahhhh🦅🔥

The sirens in the musical can access someones memories trough singing but when their voice doesn't reach the victims brain (which is the case bc of the beeswax) they get things messed up, that's why the siren says daughter instead of son and Penelopes instrument, the viola isn't in the song at all
:3
So in the song “Suffering” in the Thunder saga, Odysseus is approached by a siren pretending to be his wife Penelope. How would this siren know what his wife looks and sounds like? Did she like, scan his brain in some weird magic way or like access his memories somehow? I’m just confused, guys

The quick slience and thunder in The horse and the infant after Zeus says It's the will of the gods(to kill the infant) is so dramatic yet so expressive and necessary to highlight how difficult this is for Odysseus. Both, Ody and Zeus, were talking/singing at the same time, both trying to convince each other to change their minds, Odysseus so desperate, Zeus so powerful and confident, what you can hear in the tone of his voice but also how quietly he speaks, how he doesn't feel the need to be louder than Odysseus because he has more power anyway.
But when he notices that Odysseus isn't listening, he speaks up and says he can't escape and has to do what has to be done. When Odysseus realizes that, he can't argue anymore, he has to do what the gods want, he has to kill an infant.
That silence of realization, before Ody starts begging please don't make me do this shows exactly how hard this is for Odysseus, but also how he knows, he can't say shit against the gods words. I absolutely love how expressive this part is, good stuff
