do you mean this one? because i saw it last night and holy shit that’s fucking awesome and more articulate than i could ever write lmao i am so impressed. i never thought people would actually spend that much time thinking about a little piece of fanfic. /o\ um if any of you still feels confused about my last fic, that’s a very awesome post detailing the chain of events and pinpointing some of the major theories behind it. i could waste a few thousand boring words talking about the theories i built the story on but it’s so much more fun and interesting when readers play around with it ahaha. you guys are fucking awesome ilu all.

Could you give us a peek into the behind-the-scenes making of arbitrage? :) as in, how did you come up with the ideas and which parts did you write first and what really made you want to write the fic, and stuff like that? :) I really admire your writing!

Well, the SMTown street race verse has been something in my head for a long time… I enjoy pretty cars and hot people. (I used to be in Fast & Furious fandom lmao.) ~o~ So yeah, I always figured i’d end up writing street race AU at one point or other. I’ve always wanted to write a time travel story, too, so the two ideas kind of smashed together.

I re-read/re-watched a lot of things for fic inspiration: the Fast & Furious franchise for the cars, Primer and Rant for the time travel, Margin Call and Don DeLillo’s Players/Cosmopolis for the theme of money/consumerism. Margin Call served as an excellent background movie while I sketched out the fic outline. ~o~ The fic is basically just a condensed summary of all the things I love reading/watching. ~o~ I was actually in the process of reading Players while plotting the fic, so a lot of it was influenced by DeLillo’s themes and style.

Fic research took a while, too. There were so many wikipedia tabs lmao. That, and browsing car forums. And watching video clips about quantum physics on youtube lol. /o\ Once I was done with all the preparation, it was one full week of non-stop writing. /o\ I pretty much just wrote it the order it went in the fic. ~o~ lmao for one week my fic twitter was all “GDI 4K IN AND MAIN COUPLE HAVEN’T EVEN MET YET WTF WHY AM I BABBLING ABOUT KRIS WHEN WILL KAI EVER DEFLOWER KYUNGSOO ON TOP OF A CAR AT THIS RATE TAO JUST GIVE HIM YOUR CAR KEYS.”

…oh yeah I only intended it to be about 13k but that got out of control fast.

Fun fact: The fic was originally intended to be Kai/Lu Han or gen, and to have Lu Han coming back to the past to meet Kai and fix shit because Kai accidentally killed Sehun in a crash. As you can see, the plot got reworked many many times. ~o~
