I grow my own so that I can make my own. Single source for the win. Flashback to this Super Lekker from 3 years ago which has been a subject of my dreams since I first grew and then washed it. Seeds from @marimberos grew with great determination in my rooftop garden under the bright Oakland sun. Harvested right on time, she was dried and cured and washed with loving care...and then the resin revealed all my time and effort. As I am preparing to begin washing again with great intensity, I am looking forward to those extra special personal hash projects that I take from seed to 6 star awesome. All parts of the cycle bring me untold joy. Though I grew my first plant 18 years ago, it wasn't until I started to make hash 6 and a half years ago that I really began to understand resin. I have so much to learn. My educational journey never ends and testing my own ideas in my grow is invaluable. I grow my own for research...and resin. Grow your own Cannabis. Make your own Hashish. Explore your own Mind. Be your own Joy. Henceforth, this is my message to myself (and with love, to you too). It is the simple core truth from which I operate. Notice I didn't say, sell some pounds or racks of hash. The commercial aspect of the cannabis industry has never been my drive (to my almost total detriment, but I digress). Most certainly, delving into psychedelics is not about money either. I am only here for my joy. That's it. I have actually felt badly that relative to others, my mental health journey has seemed fairly smooth. Of course when I have been curled on the floor with a void as big as infinity eating me from the inside out, I haven't been feeling like I have it easy. But I feel amazingly blessed from continuously seeing and striving for the light at the end of the tunnel. I am in a way better place now than 2 years ago when a deep psolocybin trip revealed that I was abusing hash...smothering myself in it rather than reveling in it. I looked around at many adoring faces, but felt close to far too few. Conscious consumption of cannabis and regular micro and microdosing of psilocybin have put me back on track. So everyday I shed a little more...the quest for status, a propped up ego, unhealthy attachment to the known, all of that shit. Let's make it a Fantastic Friday, shall we? And what will truly make it fantastic? I think a healthy sense of self is a good start. Let's include an understanding that how we present in the world and how we express ourselves is as valid as anyone else's. And let's not forget to recognize our intrinsic worth to and the immense impact we have on others' lives. Fantastic Friday means pushing past our boundiaries of who we can be. Personal story: In 2009, I went to my therapist and asked about a huge issue I had been having - whether to relish in my happiness and delight while wanting to present as not thinking I was better than people. I lived in South Beach, had my own business, spent most of my days lounging at the beach, working from my phone. Life had its ups and down, but I smiled a lot and tried to wring every ounce of joy from every moment. And I loved to take pictures. I had a picture of particular exhilaration that I wanted to put on my website, but I was struggling with the image I'd be presenting. How dare I be so happy and maybe showoffy? This was a holdover from some childhood issues that literally have plagued me to the moment I decided to post THIS photo. Right now, I am forcing myself to keep confronting limitations that are my own personal prisons. The limiting concern in this case? Can I be a credible participant in this wellness movement offering thousands of hours of instruction about hashish and health, writing endless words of substance about heightening our self-worth and self regard, educating many about taking control over our destiny by growing our own cannabis (and mushrooms) and making our own concentrates, AND ALSO relish in my own sense of style and celebrate my joy on a glorious beach day in a daring bathing suit that is a collaboration between a friend and MY brand while enjoying a chillum stuffed with the best weed and hash for me (my own 😁)? Aided by cannabis and multiple psilocybin experiences over years, I have decided...YES! It is because of plant medicine that today I had the pleasure of sitting in on a Zoom conversation with @thesabinaproject and Bwiti elders in Gabon. Preparing resin for the freeze dryer is just as important as getting the setting dialed in. When I am washing, I am looking for a thick porridge consistency to strike the balance between ensuring that the water has freedom to expand as it freezes, and making sure there is not SO much water that the dry is endless. This scoop is a bit thick and dense for my taste. Solution? Today I was asked if dry sift could make temple balls. It sure can 😁 Allow me to demonstrate... When I crack open a jar and I am greeted by this wonderful spread I am immensely thankful. Seeing high quality resin like this informs me that the grower put massive time and effort into creating an ideal environment for resin production. For this, I am thankful. I know the trimmers did not excessively touch the plants. They were handled with the utmost care. For this, I am thankful. The tech was shared with love and earnest desire to see me thrive. As if we weren't hanging on by a mere thread already...we had yesterday's debacle. Besides the sheer stupidity and disrespect of what dis happen, there is the fear and anxiety of what ELSE could happen. To a great extent we find ourselves in a reality of such little control of our own stability and security that life can feel hopeless. But there is the option of caring more. Loving more, feeling more, and deeply, unconditionally caring more. Growing cannabis (and anything for that matter) can recenter us as we realize that not everything is upside down. The plants that we tend still need water and appropriate nutrients, good lighting and proper ventilation. We can turn our attention to the worthwhile moments that shut out the insanity that swirls around...outside of our minds and physical spaces. If you desire to grow cannabis, now is as good a time as ever to start. You don't need a huge room, the most exotic plants, or the most expensive lights. Heck, you don't even need ALL of your sanity (who has that?) A little time nurturing life will bring a whole bunch of it back. True rebellion of the spirit... I am wishing abundance on everyone...and also lots of full melt hash. Everyone is on that rosin kick. I get it...beautiful clarity, thick and comely badder, fluffy texture. But I NEED all of that "waste" that is removed with making rosin. Those cannabinoid metabolites must find their way into my brain. I need it all. For all of the hash rosin I consume, I am really over the moon when I get my hands on that 6 star hash. For the chillum, I am really happy for 4.5 to 5 star because the experience is out of the world. All around the world the approaches to Hashish differ. It's the pliability for me. While spheres (#templeballs) are more effective for aging and preserving hash, the delicate beauty of the cannoli never ceases to amaze me. ...and while I had decided that hash making would be a part of my life forever more after participating in my first whir of the ice and water, it was the pressing of the resin a week later that solidified my new path in life. After resin has been thoroughly pressed as flat as possible, the next step is rolling the Cannoli; catching one edge and smoothly wrapping dankness into the most delicious rollup of resin. If the resin is too warm (or too good) there is a good chance of it being unable to keep its shape (just like with a flattened templeball). These days, although I end with a templeball, I always do this Cannoli stage as part of the process. Not once do I not think of the very first tentative roll I made back in September 2014 as @frenchycannoli passed along his knowledge with fastidious care and attention. And not once to I roll and not smile. This is heavenly.
