You know that thing where you play a video of the nye countdown for kids at like 9pm so they'll think its the new year and go to bed? Yeah, Davey does that for himself.

Crutchie alternates between giving really good advice and just absolute bullshit but he will not tell you which and his sarcasm is so strong nobody can tell the difference

“That’s Snyder?”
“Yeah. What about it?”
“Just- he barely looks older than us Jack”
“Sharp one ain’t ya, Davey?” David’s stare didn’t soften, this time it was Jack who gave in first and looked away. “He’s a cruel bastard,” He said, “hits hard.”

Katherine says goodbye politely, pleasantly, and professionally. The picture of etiquette and grace drilled into her by her father and a couple of witty comments all her own to send you on your way. Etiquette, however, cannot hide emotions and there's often a struggle to hide the tears of a girl who's never quite ready to let go.

more animation practice!
Called this one 'yes.gif' - figured it was time to go back to basics and practice the main thing I think I'm good at, which is expressions. I've been (slowly) working on my webcomic again recently so this is based on the face of a young Archie Hawthorne

Jack does goodbyes long and slow. He'll make you stay up all night to spend as much time as possible and he'll drag out the morning trying to hang on to the time. When he finally has to say goodbye, he makes a joke of it and sends you off with a smile so you're left with a warm feeling and neither of you have to think of the sadness until a little later on.

Hi! Will you tell us your Spot hc's please?
Hey!! Of course I will!! Thanks for the ask :) didn't know what exactly you wanted so you get ramblings, enjoy!!
(So I'm talking about uksies Spot here, in the show they're referred to as they, probably just for Surprise! Its girls! factor but i will be honoring it anyway)
In my mind, Spot came to power by accident, I like to think the Brooklyn girls were a subset of a massive group of Brooklyn newsies but Spot had such a reputation for looking after everyone in little ways that they were just naturally recognised as a leader. Tie someone's shoes here, make sure that one eats there, plait the little one's hair, cover for the sick kids etc. I'm imagining someone asking to speak to the leader of Brooklyn and everyone looks at Spot who's like 'What? Who me???' And that was that.
Spot has a reputation of being scary but honestly when you talk to them you realise they're just extremely chill and extremely protective. They've been hurt in life so their way of protecting is to set their girls on whoever seems like a threat. They're definitely one of those people who everyone is afraid of but if you ask their newspaper regulars they're like 'oh yes Spot, what a sweet kid, always saves me an evening edition'. The epitome of 'don't judge a book by its cover'.
After the strike Spot comes around to visit Manhattan quite a lot and the two boroughs become quite close, they develop a hilarious friendship with Davey who remains terrified of them bc that's just Davey but they also just chat shit together in fluent sarcasm.
Spot does the little ones' hair and then lets them do theirs. Its messy, occasionally painful, but adorble. Thats it thats the hc.
Spot and Race were childhood friends and he thinks it's hilarious that people are scared of them, he pretends to cower every time they meet and Spot acts annoyed but secretly loves it bc they know Race is one of the only people that really knows them.
Middle child vibes. Idk why. The kind that teams up with the eldest to look after the youngest.
Refuses to wear a skirt, ever. If they are given a skirt it will be chopped up.
Spot is angry but not as much as people think, they can't stand it when things are unjust and they have a short temper, but angry is not their default mood.
Uhh I'll post some more as I think of them but,, hope you like these anon!! They're a bit random but I hope you like them 🥰

Did I nearly cry at seeing Mark sign? Pfft whaaaat? Yes
If you want a translation of what Mark said it was (rough because I’m a bit rusty):
Hello how are you? I’m good, I’m a bit tired. I have work, I’ve been dancing all day. My name is Mark, what’s your name?

Davey refuses to throw anything away, his ma mends all of his clothes over and over and even when he gets new (to him) clothes he still goes back and mends the old ones himself. its comfort to him to have familiarity and something that is his own, and also to know that he has something of a backup for him and for Les if things go downhill again

Crutchie, once finally asleep, CANNOT be woken up. not as in nobody wants to or that there are consequences, he just literally won't wake up. he wakes either 1) of his own accord or 2) to the morning bell and that is IT, the newsies have even tried other bells and nothing.
you can jump on him, you can yell in his ear, you can shake him as much as you like, that kid grew up with the newsies, ain't nothing waking him up

One time they both stayed up late and the next day had a whole conversation in gibberish which convinced Race he'd forgotten how to speak English
When Jack's tired he acts normally but will say the stupidest shit just in a completely normal conversation. Everyone's just so used to Jack being the leader that they don't question it when he tells them to eat their papes so they can sell food.

For the headcanon request: I know you've already done some for Jack but if you have any other headcanons about everyone's favourite cowboy I would really appreciate it!!
Hi!! Thanks for the request!!! This is so fun I love Cowboy Kelly and Michael!Jack is unmatched. Not sure what kind you wanted so here are my rambling thoughts!
So I hc that while Jack is the leader of the strike, the Manhattan newsies don't really have a leader in the same way the Brooklyn girls do, I reckon Jack, Race, Crutchie and maybe a few others are the ones who have been there the longest so they naturally take the younger boys under their wings. Jack's way of doing this is very chaotic.
He had to be more mature during the strike but he is still 17. Jack on a normal day is lighthearted and silly, the younger boys love that he can throw them around and he's always getting them into mischief, teaching them little tips and tricks he had to learn on his own. In the show he swings on a rope and this is definitely something he gets told off for on a regular basis. He is also a wicked cheater at any game you put in front of him but will charm his way into the other person never realising. The kid's basically a con artist.
He learnt to draw by tracing the postcards he nicked and tracing them and adding his own bits on top, then he would sketch people important to him. He didn't have photographs but he's terrified of forgetting their faces.
Jack is a natural problem solver, if he sees something wrong he will do what he can to correct it, it's why he ended up in the refuge, it's why he started the strike, but in trying to solve everyone else's problems he neglects his own and burns out - which is why he took the money from Pulitzer, he just wanted it all to stop. Jack is obsessed with the idea of Santa Fe but for him it's less of a dream location and more of a concept, it symbolises getting away from everything he hates and that new start I think all 17 year olds crave. He saw the name 'Santa Fe' on a train station sign and latched on, making up stories about how good it was gonna be to entertain the other boys. He desperately wants to go but doesn't expect to live that long.
And finally, Jack's newsie name is Cowboy but not because of Santa Fe (although that helps). It's actually because he gives everyone piggyback rides and shouts out 'yeehaw!' When he does it.
