The Swamp 4 Search term: Phraseless Track found on Bandcamp: Wreckless Phrase from Collection by Out of the Darkroom OK, this week's track starts off a little sloppy in the performance, but it gets better fortunately, the playing on this Indie Rock and vocal performance are pretty decent and the melodies are catchy. Overall, not a bad track and it's definitely worth it, giving more tracks by Out of the Darkroom a listen. I'm just hoping their timing stays consistent on their other tracks. So, a decent track, not really special, but a good listen nonetheless.

The Swamp 3 Search term: Treaty of Moscow (1970) Track found on Bandcamp: The Pants Treaty of 1707 from Oddities by Superluminal Pachyderm Another track in The Swamp this week and it's a rather short vocal track. A weird psychedelicly effected voice is talking about some Pants Treaty of 1707, a curious little piece this is. This obviously sounds more like an interlude track than a fully-fledge piece, but check this out anyways, if the album is as nicely psychedelic as this little track, we're onto something good this time!

The Swamp 2 Search term: California State University, East Bay Track found on Bandcamp: Tribute to University of California Santa Barbara from #FuckSchool by #TepléPrúdy Well, this is quite your diy music, wow. I guess this is more an outsider kind of music than anything else. Out of tune guitar, wonky keyboard and drum peformance, it's all a bit thrown together. Still, if you like the rather diy bedroom kind of jams that aren't really "good" but have some kind of cult value, this one's for you. But other than that, it's not really good.

So, it's been quite some time since I last wrote for The Cavement Ltd, as I've been busy with my own music and with the Agatone Music label. I'm introducing a new series on this blog on this sunny Thursday. The Swamp, a series of reviews of free releases that I found when searching for a random word sourced from Wikipedia, a dictionary or Thesaurus on Bandcamp or the netlabel section of Internet Archive. 100% unpredictable music discovery. The Swamp 1 Search term: Brightest Star Release found on Internet Archive Netlabels: GOTO80_-_COPYSLAVE-(20k128)-2004 Published December 3, 2004 Usage Public Domain Topics Chipstyle The first release in my new series The Swamp is a pretty decent lo-bit chiptune release from 2004 on the label 20kbps. Over 5 1-minute long tracks we've got some pretty funky lo-bi musical chipcrunching. First track ALASKA is probably the best out of the bunch, with a fun Ska groove and it's enjoyable even for people who aren't really into Chiptune music. Track 2 SILLYSEX also sounds pretty good with a cool squelchy bass sound, but the lo-bit aspect does make the whole track sound a little muddy and to be honest reduces the squelchyness of the bass to a kind of "fart" sound at some points. Track 5 SPIT didn't really work for me in general though, it's an attempt to play out some kind of Chiptune lo-bit Metal track, but especially when the chips are combined with the lo-bit vocals, it honestly just sounds like a random bootleg of a random metal song, just in very low quality. Overall though, COPYSLAVE is a pretty decent chiptune EP, that isn't perfect, but still provides a few minutes of nice and enjoyable lo-bit music for the fans.

Drumcorps: Falling Forward (2015) Released on Ad Noiseam. Second release for today is this album by Drumcorps called Falling Forward, released on Ad Noiseam. This review is based on the CD version of this album, that came with the vinyl LP. Falling Forward is a pretty fierce but also rather fun album with a mixture of Metal and Rock songs all with a strong electronic production and plenty of Breakcore style edits and stutter effects. It's fast and enjoyable ride to listen to these 14 album tracks in order and the songwriting is good enough, but the album's style ocasionally seems a little too similar to other Electro Rock artists and has the sometimes slightly lazy attitude of some Rock music of "Rock for the sake of rock". But, this album has plenty of great rocking tracks too, like Cradle To Grave which is not unlikely some of the more recent music by The Prodigy and Tap Tap Tap which has a great Breakcore groove which is both abrasive and goofy, but fun. The album is available to buy in various formats.

Olm: Little Boy (2016) Released on Grey Matter Productions. Today I have two releases for you. The first one is this great EP by Olm called Little Boy. The music is avery captivating mixture of cinematic and really headphoneworthy (almost binaural panning in the mix) sound design and some ocassionally harsh Noise. Beautiful music this is. Seawaves, drones, musique concrete Noise, the musical spectrum of this EP is wide. From the sweet ambience of A Man Sees The Sky (Detail) to the Harsh Noise of Sorry, We Got Lost, there's quite a big variety of textures on this EP. You can grab this EP above or buy the Ltd. cassette while stocks last.

Fun Guys From Yuggoth: Soft Noise I (2016) Self-released by Fun Guys From Yuggoth. Fun Guys From Yuggoth have been working on a new series called Soft Noise and well this first part doesn't sound particularly soft in loudness, but its texture is pretty tame compared ot other Noise tracks. It sounds a little like the mechanics of a space shuttle engine, interesting. Well, Fun Guys From Yuggoth are being a little more serious with their sound design on this one, but it's still fun. Free download above.

Hydrogen Sulfide: skin cells (2016) Self-released by Hydrogen Sulfide. I have a second Hydrogen Sulfide release for you today. This is the single skin cells. Well it definitely sounds ike a world made out of buzzing skin cells. A dark, tense, Noisy kind of world, that is also filled with harmonics and creepy high tones. An interesting trip through a rather original kind of Noise music. Grab it above.

Hydrogen Sulfide: deep within (2016) Self-released by Hydrogen Sulfide. Today I have three releases for you. This is the first one, by Hydrogen Sulfide. It's an album-length release of creepy and unsettling Noise, but made with a strong sense of layering textures and sounds. It's harsh, intense, but also captivating to listen to. It takes a while to get into this kind of music, as it might sound rather chaotic a first, but once you start to discover the layers within the mix, it's all the more creepy, but very interesting. A track like they are inside sounds iike the soundtrack to a horror film, loads of distorted Noise sweeps, horrific growls, distorted vocal samples. deep within however, is a highly compressed percussive Industrial track, more minimal in nature, this track still brings a captivating sound to the table. Grab the album above.

Fun Guys From Yuggoth: Histories Erased (2016) Self-released by Fun Guys From Yuggoth. Yes, Fun Guys From Yuggoth at it again. This time there Noise sounds like a distorted electric saw and a garage band playing at the same time, yes, this is interesting stuff and fun. Free download above.

Domkyrka: Gallarus Oratory (2016) Self-released by Lord Cernunnos. Today I have to single release for you. This first one is a single by Domkyrka called Gallarus Oratory. It's pretty familiar Noise music, but with one difference. Instead of your usual one-pitch Noise experimentation, you're getting multiple pitches of Noise layered over eachother, a wind turbine sound, earth crumbling, some harsher Noises. A nice and fun mix of textures in a bite size Noise track, nice work. Grab it above.

Fun Guys From Yuggoth: Sucked Into Space (2016) Self-released by Fun Guys From Yuggoth. A second single by Fun Guys From Yuggoth then, Sucked Into Space. Now the Guys are back at making Noise again. It's harsh, abrasive and what you would expect from a Fun Guys From Yuggoth track, but as always Fun. Free download above.

Fun Guys From Yuggoth: Heaven Scent (2016) Self-released by Fun Guys From Yuggoth. Oh, Fun Guys From Yuggoth, they never stop releasing music, but it's still pretty good so far. Just like this one, Heaven Scent, which is this time a pretty sweet Drone track. Idle and a bit static in its movement, this Drone could work well edited in a film soundtrack. But as a stand alone track single, it also works good, although perhaps more as background music than foreground music. Still, as always you can grab it above.

Static/Voice/Static: Kill (2016) Self-released by Static/Voice/Static. Next up is this excellent album by Static/Voice/Static called Kill. Featuring two 45 minute tracks, this album sure is a rather long listen, but it's really worth it. This album has a rather unexplainable vibe to it that is really unique. It's mostly ambient sounding, but stretched out in a really mysterious sounding manner. That's all I could describe this music as, just give it a listen and drown in the mysterious streams of sound this album brings. Mind-Fuck-Trump-Fuck is the most ambient of the two tracks and also features some notorious voice snippets by Donald Trump, How To Win Vote's From the Ignorant is a bit more noisy and harsh, but still really ambient sounding. Grab it above.

Existence Cemetery; Nothing (2016) Self-released by Existence Cemetery. Some time ago I praised Ikb's release for it's physicality in the performance of Noise, this release Nothing by Existence Cemetery is similar in approach, though a bit more minimal in its textures. The music consists mostly of sample / tape manipulation and avant-garde instrumental performances. It's not easy music to "understand", but is not at all hard on the ears. I would say that this is a fun and interesting listen for fans of avant-garde music, that in contrast to some other released out there, doesn't overwhelm the listeners with endless aleatoric melodic phrases or a general sense of sounding rather lazily put together. This is an artist experimenting at his place and both performing and recording his works, without pretense. Check out the track Alone And Confused for a beautiful mysterious atmospheric melodic accompaniment by nicely close-miked percussion. The final tital track Nothing features Tape manipulation at its most physical. Grab the album above.

honja: 4 (2016) Self-released by honja. I have some catching up to do, as I couldn't write reviews yesterday. So you'll get more releases to listen to today. Starting with this mini-album by honja called 4, it's a sweet release in the kind of Ambient Noise genre I featured on here earlier. So, the sound of this album is familiar to me, yet still honja's music features a unique kind of edge that makes it uniquely his. The virtuosity and variation of the textures is apparent from the beginning, Noise, vocal samples, text-to-speech, vocoder and acoustic elements are all blended together in a tasteful mix. Listen to tracks like 4.04.16 with a quirky yet also nicely resonant sound with fun synth fx, text-to-speech and a nice lo-fi edge and 4.18.16 which has a raw distorted Noise sound that is also Shoegaze at it's most extreme. Grab the mini-album above!

Fun Guys From Yuggoth: Misophonic Rage (2016) Self-released by Fun Guys From Yuggoth. Finally, it's yet another Fun Guys From Yuggoth single, this one is called Misophonic Rage. It's again, a Noise track, nicely harsh with a piercing high tone going up and down and some weird mangled voices inside. A familar affair this one, but nice. Grab it above.
