PROLOGUE - Analysis and Interpretation
I’m back with another! Surprisingly, this video doesn’t have as much content (that is worthy of mention) compared to I Need U, even though its so much longer. HOWEVER, I do love this video a lot. It gives a little insight to the stories and I love that....
If you haven’t seen my I Need U analysis/interpretation, check that out :)
This one isn’t going to be set out like that one. I’m just going to talk about this one as the video progresses, rather than breaking down each member; purely because this video has more of a structure/storyline whereas I Need U is showing multiple viewpoints.
LETS BEGIN
So the first thing we see is Taehyung with blood on his hands and face, which he washes off. Self explanatory - this is after he stabbed the man. He is unstable, almost crying and calls somebody saying “Hyung, I want to see you hyung”. Now at this point, we do not know who it is but in hindsight, after watching the Wings videos, we know. This person is most likely Namjoon, and we could even guess that from the pairing with him (I mentioned this in the last one) in I Need U and in RUN (but we’ll get to that).
We see Taehyung lying on a mattress in a weird open space in the middle of the woods. The others are running towards him, looking for him. Again, with the polaroids - Taehyung pulls out a picture (I assume, of the man he killed) and crumples it. Pictures are a major thing in this series.
They all find him, and the first to greet him is Namjoon - no surprises there. Proves my point of them being paired. Namjoon asks Taehyung “what are you doing?” and pulls him up. But wait. They are being filmed... by who? Well Jungkook then says “Oh, it’s Jin hyung”. Now here is where it all starts. Can’t remember if I said it in the last one, but Jin has a thing with filming and taking pictures of the rest... Why?
“You can smile as long as we’re together”. What does this mean? Well as mentioned before, they are each others’ strength. They are broken on their own but are so happy together. The reason I say that there is not much content in this one is because everyone seems to be unusually happy...
Happiness, happiness. Tiny Yoongi X Kookie pairing hint.
BUTTERFLY. JIN FILMS A BUTTERFLY. ANOTHER MAJOR THING. We know the song Butterfly, and the lyrics (if not, familiarise yourself) - so maybe this is something about Jin being scared to lose the boys. However, a little research says “Butterflies are deep and powerful representations of life. Many cultures associate the butterfly with our souls. The Christian religion sees the butterfly as a symbol of resurrection. Around the world, people view the butterfly as representing endurance, change, hope, and life” Now what did I say about the main themes, hmm? Pretty much exactly that. Jin, in particular, is connected to this idea of life/death, so it is no surprise that he is filming the butterfly. One thing that particularly stands out to be is this idea of “resurrection”. We found out before that lilies could mean “renewal and rebirth”. Very similar here, so maybe this is something to seriously consider. Something about being in a new life... a different world to one before? Becoming a new person after the corruption of youth?
Everything can tie in though. I mentioned before that Jin maybe watching the youth (and souls now) of the boys burning. Maybe he does not want to lose the innocence and purity of youth that they once had, tying in the two points about the butterfly just made.
Now Jin looks at this butterfly, then it’s as it turns into a plastic bag. Maybe he was just imagining the butterfly... It reveals his deeper feelings that nobody can see on the surface. (I also can't help but think of the Katy Perry lyric in ‘Firework’ about the plastic bag but we’ll just ignore that because my mind is weird).
Happiness more happiness. Whether it is worthy of mention: Namjoon is smoking, Jin takes a picture (Polaroid) of Hoseok, Yoongi and Jungkook, Jin continues to video.
Now something happens and I wasn’t going to comment on it but I think I will. I didn’t notice it the first time around, but now looking back I do. Taehyung stands on this roof or ledge thing with the boys telling him to come down. It’s almost, no, it IS a foreshadowing... BUT that comes at the end of this, so if you know, you know what I mean. The mood changes here too.
Namjoon writes on this mirror “you need to survive”. This could be directed to all of them or maybe just Hobi. Why would he write it on a mirror? I’m just throwing out ideas here.
So they’re all around a campfire, chilling, snacking, drinking... Now here’s one of my favourite scenes and MOMENTS of the whole thing. There is a definite hint at the Yoongi and Jungkook pairing, as Jungkook lies on Yoongi. Yoongi does not look too happy to be honest, as if something is on his mind. Now remember the lighter thing? Yoongi is flicking this lighter on and off. The reason this is one of my favourite moments is because something happens in a sec...
BUT we’ll have to get back to that as Jin sees a picture of the sea and says “We... shall we go there?” The boys agree.
BACK TO THIS YOONGI AND JUNGKOOK THING. Yoongi flicks the lighter on and Jungkook blows the fire out. Now this makes me excited to talk about. We know that fire is the killer of Yoongi. Maybe this could be showing that as long as they’re together, Jungkook is Yoongi’s saviour... and Yoongi is allowed to stay in youth.
OFF TO THE BEACH THEY GO. HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY. (Just had a thought... there is one more pairing, Jimin and Hobi. I don’t know if there have been any moments yet - probably - but yeah, just keep that in mind).  ANYWAY, running on the beach (no surprises) - Jin filming, again, no surprises. More running. Jin taking pictures. Now I haven’t actually answered the question as to why Jin is taking the photos. He’s not going to be in them, surely? That’s exactly the point. He’s the odd one out. Like he’s watching over them. Now this could be interpreted as he’s watching over them in death, while they’re still in life. Again, could be literal or metaphorical. Let’s talk in the metaphorical sense. He’s already gone past this point of growing up - from youth to adulthood - he is the eldest after all. He is watching his younger friends go through this.
So now we’re back at the petrol station and MA CITY IS PLAYING - MY JAM. Namjoon is smoking an putting petrol in their car. Jin is driving and actually HANDS OVER THE CAMERA TO NAMJOON (omg), who takes a picture of Jin and Yoongi. Very cute. Also, cute little Hobi and Jimin moment (as I mentioned their pairing before).
I feel like that scene was too random. There is a reason for that scene... Oh wait I remember. When I first saw that scene, I JUST KNEW that Jin was not going to be in that picture... And guess what, at the end, we find out that he isn’t
Now here... there’s something... and I cannot explain something. There’s just this feeling I get when I know there is something. Jungkook looks out to sea with is hand shaped in an O like a telescope. He is looking for something? Maybe not physical, but he is looking for something. There is a chain that they have made a point of in the shot, but maybe that wasn’t on purpose. If it wasn’t, it could represent his restriction and how he wants to be free. Maybe thats what he was looking for - freedom? Yoongi comes along, sits next to him and puts an arm around him. (Can I just mention how small Yoongi looks, lmao it’s like me with my friends). They are very cute. They go to wake up the boys and off they go together. Yoongi has a protective arm around Jungkook. Taehyung... he looks distressed....
Now things get very juicy. They’re sitting on the side, Jin still filming. Taehyung looks up and sees this very high platform on top of the sea... And off he goes and climbs it - Jin filming. The boys tell him to come down. (YOU SEE WHAT I MEANT BY FORESHADOWING). And he does come down. He jumps it. Suicide? Butterfly appropriately playing. And there it ends
OH BUT IT DOESN’T. Jin pulls out the picture that Namjoon took. Only Yoongi is in that picture. JIN DOES NOT EXIST IN THEIR WORLD. WHETHER METAPHORICAL OR LITERAL LIFE AND DEATH, JIN AND THE REST DO NOT LIVE IN THE SAME WORLD.
And I will leave you with that. I hope you enjoyed this. As I said, I don’t really have a strict theory for the entire thing, but I hope this got some questions or ideas flowing in your mind. This is all I am here for. Also, to get out all of this that has been cramped in my head XD

I NEED U - Analysis and Interpretation
So I guess I’ll start with I Need U since it was the first one that I seemed to analyse. Trying to read all my notes is going to be hard since I can’t even write legibly.
So we know that the very first thing that you see is Jin holding some lilies in his hands. As many people have mentioned, lilies are typically bought for a funeral, and can be a symbol of death. However, after a little bit of research, I found that they may also mean the purity and beauty of youth as well as renewal and rebirth. These two themes, I think, are major, as well as the theme of death - depends which way you interpret. Me personally, I think it’s all about the death of youth, and the fact that adolescence is like a rebirth. Anywho, let’s proceed.
I think the best way to do this is by breaking down everyone’s roles and talking about everything that way
Jin
I’ve explained the thing about the lilies, but the question is why is Jin holding them? He lays the lilies onto the floor. One thing we do see, but he is not in the shot is lilies burning. I’m writing this going back and forth between each person, so I do mention something about Yoongi being closely related to fire, but I think just in general, fire is a major symbol.
Many people believe that the lilies are presenting the literal deaths of all the boys, but I think this is a metaphorical death (meaning, the death of their youth). Now, you may see me flick between the literal and metaphorical death with the way I speak, particularly in Prologue, Run, Spring Day and possibly BST too. However, let’s call this “general death”, both metaphorical and literal.
So the lilies burn. What could this mean? Well, in one way it could mean the purity and beauty of youth is burning. [HUGE INSERT OF EXCITEMENT HERE - THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT ‘FIRE’ IS ABOUT BUT WE’LL GET TO THAT WHEN I LOOK AT IT]. In another way it could mean their souls are dying. Whose? The others presumably.
We then see a lily projected onto his chest, on his left side, showing that the lily is resting on his heart. He may be keeping his youth close to him, as the others’ youth are slowly burning as you will see when I talk about them. OR, as some people like to interpret this, Jin is almost mourning everyone. Either way, he is mourning a death - whether literal or metaphorical.
Then Jin opens a window, looking up into the light. Could be a metaphor for hope, or for heaven. We then, after the scene with Taehyung, see Jin crying. Why? Could he be mourning the death of Taehyungs innocence, purity and youth?
Hoseok
In the beginning see Hobi looking into the mirror, as if there is some sort of insecurity, or as if he is debating something. Whatever it is, there is something going through his mind. Then, we see him open the mirror/cupboard thing, and we see him taking out some pills. Instant connotations: depression and suicide. We see him take some, being careless with the amount, implying this is a suicide attempt. But why? He looks at his reflection and wipes across it, as if to erase his face - his existence.
He then walks along a bridge, looking very physically and emotionally tired. He then collapse. Either because of the exhaustion (from walking and the sun) or the drugs have settled in. I believe the latter.
We see a quick shot of him pouring his drugs into the fire when they are together. Assuming that the moments when they were together was before everything happened to him, this could be him showing us that he is much stronger with the guys than he is alone.
We then see him awaken on the street. He did not die, as you would think. It could be his rebirth?
Jungkook
Jungkook is walking along a bridge, then through the streets in the dark on his own. He bumps into two men in black hoodies and leather jackets. I really feel like there is some sort of symbolism or meaning behind these guys but this, I've never been able to work out. On a literal level though, he gets into a fight with these men. The reason why I think this is so significant is because in RUN, we know that he gets into a fight with Yoongi. Jungkook is related to fighting. Maybe this is just showing one type of person through youth: getting themselves involved in violence. A bit more of a deeper, and symbolic view is that those men aren't really there at all, and it is just Jungkook beating himself up. Those men could be a symbol for something else within him, and he is having conflict with himself.
Next major Jungkook thing happens in between the major Taehyung scene so I currently am feeling very emotional while writing both of these at once. Jungkook walks into the road and a car approaches him. Whether he is hit by that car is uncertain, however, it is implied that they at least want us to think that. I don’t think it was a coincidence that this was put in the middle of Taehyung’s bit (you know what I mean, and if you don’t, keep reading). It may have simply been a tension thing, or it could show the breaking point of both Jungkook and Taehyung. The moment when both of their lives changed forever.
However, this car may also be the car that they drive together happily towards the end (mentioned in the part where I talk about all of them).
Jungkook, I think, does not have a major role in this one, but he really begins to become major in the coming videos.
Taehyung
Taehyung’s opening shot is of him outside the door of somebody’d flat presumably. He looks distressed, and has bottles beside him. We do not know if these are his or not, but this is explained later in the video.
Taehyung, after we see him with Namjoon (which is talked about in Namjoon’s section), we ALSO see him on a bridge. All 3: Hobi, Jungkook and Taehyung seem to love walking on a bridge. Taehyung has a stick and knocks off a can of red bull. I reckon this is because he is angry as it reminds me of what he has done which is still not yet explained, but we will get into that.
Right now! This is going to be hard to talk about without crying. So I guess I’ll have to retell what happens. Taehyung walks into a room and sees a man beating a woman. Taehyung acts quickly, grabs a bottle and smashes it over the man’s head.
It then gets worse.
So after a few seconds of it being calm, we are introduced to the group of them being happy. Quite quickly afterwards, we see Taehyung repeatedly stabbing the man. This is one of my favourite parts in the video because of the arrangement of this scene. It has been composed in such a way that it flicks back and forth from the stabbing and the moments where they were together. It connects the youthful and happy play fighting of Taehyung and the boys (more specifically Namjoon fyi), to his real violence when he stabs the man. IMMEDIATELY after this we see Jin crying.
The rest of the video essentially shows Taehyung being extremely shocked and hurt by his own actions. He cannot believe what he has done.
Yoongi
Firstly. Can we appreciate how amazing he looks. His prime era. Yes he is my bias. The hair = perfect. Anyway:
Yoongi - he’s probably been one of the most difficult ones for me to decipher. The first shot is of him lying on a hotel bed, seemingly calm but clearly emotional or stressed. We know that this escalates later on in the video.
Yoongi is very closely related with fire. We see him with a lighter a lot, and this is first introduced in this video. He is constantly flicking his lighter on and off (if that’s even the right term for it XD), looking distressed. Now, I’ve had a look at some meanings of fire, and I think this is so essential to know, as it gives away some pretty major themes: power, passion, hell, enlightenment, destruction, warmth, purification. The ones I have highlighted are personally the ones I think are the most important as I think fire represents self destruction, purification and rebirth, however, this is going off on a tangent, and trust me, this theme will be looked at heavily a little later in this video.
Ok so I anticipated writing more in between the last paragraph and what I am about to write, but much like Jimin, there is not much content - only at the beginning and end. So Yoongi picks up a case and walks towards his bed, pours petrol (or gasoline, whatever you want to call it), everywhere and sets the room on fire, inevitably killing him.
Jimin
Great role in this video! Jimin: In the bath, burning a photo. Photos are very important in this series, as you probably know, especially with Jin. I think that photos are the connection between Jin and Jimin, as we know that Jin often likes to take the photos and Jimin appears to be burning one here. We see Jimin drop the burning photo and it turns to blossoms.
Now after most of the video proceeds, Jimin is not really seen. Until: that moment when we see the drops of water. Water, another great symbol, also to do with Taehyung.
Jimin is out of the bath, His bath is overflowing and he is sitting outside of it, curled up.
Right after the extremely fast paced and tense scene with Taehyung, we have Jimin. It is much calmer, but no more pleasant. It just gets worse, and more emotional as he attempts to drown himself in his bath.
But he doesn't... We see him afterwards looking at the burning picture, and looking very distressed in the bath. Jimin is a difficult one to talk about in this video, as we don’t have any context, which would be about the photo. However, the idea of photos really comes into play in the other videos and I do have an idea of which photo this could be.
Namjoon
Now, we can see from the very first shot that Namjoon is a smoker. If you do not know, they have had to switch a cigarette for a lollipop, so if you see a lollipop, it means a cigarette. He is at a petrol station... smoking + petrol = BAD IDEA.
Little bit of a stretch with this once but here we go. While everyone is messing around in the restaurant, Yoongi offers Namjoon some of his drink and Namjoon says no. I want to say it is as innocent as that but there’s this little part in the back of my brain that is telling me to write this. Ok, so I mentioned that they use a lollipop instead of a cigarette. This is because there are certain things that they are not allowed to show. What if this drink is another? I mean, there is a straw after all? It may be alcohol or something that is smoked. Not giving any specifics, just an idea. My evidence: Yoongi with the lighter may hint that he’s had a history with smoking, and then we know that Namjoon smokes. Maybe Yoongi influenced Namjoon...? Just an idea? Not that it really has any relevence but hey ho. MOVING ON
Namjoon and Taehyung. Didn’t know where to write this, but we know they are definitely linked, not only in this video. But they are lying down on the floor (presumably the petrol station ground), looking up at the sky. There is suddenly a light approaching them, as a car approaches. This could be the car that hits Jungkook and/or the one that they all drive happily in. I like to think they are the same car.
ALL TOGETHER
There is a clear shift in mood from when they are alone compared to when they are together. It leads me to think that everything that happened when they were together happened before everything that happens when they are alone (if you can make sense of that sentence). They seem very happy when they are together. Care free. Showing the happier side of youth, compared to the self destruction that is shown when they are alone. I think all teenagers can relate - when they are alone, things get hard, but when you’re with friends, the troubles disappear.
They’re messing around and sitting on a crate (number 20785... not sure if this has a meaning but I’m putting it here just in case). They also walk along some train tracks... foreshadowing... spring day...? hahaha, think I'm getting excited there.
They also seem to run a lot. Not only in this video but in all of them. Isn’t it weird that two major things in this videos: the fact that they run, and fire, are two of their songs. Coincidence? I think not. I think they used those songs as a basis for their videos.
Now after their extremely tense moments, it is much calmer, and there is this section which shows them being happy. Only for a moment though, as then we see Taehyung stabbing the man in between. Refer back to the Taehyung section where I talk about this a little further.
In this section, they light a fire. Now this fire made me thing that there is a link with all of them and fire. We know that the three people who relate to fire the most are Yoongi, Jimin and Jin, however, we know that it connects all of them, as if it is a symbol for their togetherness.
Furthermore, directly after Taehyung stabs the man, there are huge fireworks. As mentioned in the Taehyung section, there is a link/contrast between when they are together and when they are alone. We see them celebrating and them in a car, again showing togetherness. This feels strange, as multiple bad events have just happened. It could then simply be, a memory of them being together.
Something else that just sprung to mind and I haven’t written about this anywhere. I mentioned about a Taehyung and Namjoon pairing. There is also a sense of a Jungkook and Yoongi pairing as well as a Hoseok and Jimin pairing. These are hinted at, but explored much more in the future videos.
The very end (the final 45 seconds or so) I want to explain as a whole, many things happen at once, and again it’s like a link between them being together and them alone. In order, I will tell you exactly what happens:
Yoongi walks towards his bed with a case
Taehyung is shocked by what he has just done (stabbed the man)
A shot of Jungkook when they are together, shocked by the blazing fire
Yoongi pours petrol on the bed
Hoseok sprinkles something (99% sure his pills) into the fire
Namjoon drops his cigarette onto money (which may burn)
Yoongi’s room bursts into flames
Jimin looks at the picture that is also in flames
Yoongi burns, Taehyung screams, Hobi awakens, Namjoon just stands there
Can you see how everything is linked in this bit? I feel like that is hard to explain, and something you just have to see for yourself, but it feels like a sequence of them realising their fate. A moment of epiphany for all.
It ends with them running again - no surprises. However, their location is essential and appears in another video - I am pretty sure it is the same place. The final shot is a shot looking out to water, A foreshadowing, I think.
If you read all of that, I cannot thank you enough, wow. It was nice getting that all out of me in writing form. I could gather my thoughts. And this is only the first one. I have lots to say on this and spring day - the rest should be shorter. But we’ll see. I think since I love analysing, this was so enjoyable for me, which is why I thought it was blog-worthy. If I don’t post another one tonight, I hope you stay for the future ones, in which I should have all up by the end of the week :)

BTS Theories???
If you’re a lover of BTS, you’ll know exactly what I mean
I’m thinking of writing my interpretations for all the videos. Not really a theory though because I haven’t seemed to piece a single one together. But what I do really love doing is analysis, and over the months, I have managed to gather some sort of ideas together about what I think it’s all about.
So my next few posts (might not be able to do this all in one night) should be theories... Let’s see how this goes
