BIGBANG Seungri Scandal (long read)
BIGBANG’s Seungri has become a suspect in soliciting prostitution- which goes against South Korea’s anti-prostitutiom law. Alleged Kakao Talk messages have been leaked of Seungri handling prostitution services for rich investors and it’s believed the women are traded in the clubs which Seungri founded. Club ‘Burning Sun’ and ‘ARENA’ are currently under investigation by the police.
Look, I get it’s hard to come to terms if someone you like is doing shady and illegal stuff but that’s the real world. If you want to continue to support Seungri that’s up to you, but I feel like many are being very ignorant about the whole situation.
Prostitution is illegal in Korea but the industry is striving. Hundreds of thousand of women become involved with the sex industry and it’s estimated about 20-24% of men have payed for sexual services. The sex industry grosses 1.6% GDP in South Korea (from 2007). Even run away youths as young as 15 and elderly women in their 70s (Bacchus ladies) find themselves apart of prostitution. The legalization/criminalization of the industry is very muddy- some women depend on it as their liviliehood while others are there out of desperation or even sex trafficking. Even if you believe prostitution should be legal, I think it’s agreeable that a bunch of men messaging each other about offering and paying for a prostitute- a woman, a human being- like she’s some kinda of merchandise is very unnerving.
It’s one thing to say “I want to support Seungri but I don’t agree with what he did and I understand it’s wrong. I think he’s better than that and he can change and I want to be there for him” but some comments sounds like “It’s okay if my oppa did this illegal thing because I don’t care and will always love him and I wish people didn’t give him such a hard time :(”.
To ignorantly support him despite his possible charges, is like excusing the type of behaviour of handling women like merchandise, not just by Seungri but by ANYONE. And to see people blindly defend Seungri especially during the whole ATEEN and SOPA situation is even more upsetting, because it’s like people are saying that sexual abuse isn’t okay unless the perpetrator is someone you are a fan of.
NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.

'Beautiful' dinosaur tail found preserved in amber
Tumblr media
The tail of a feathered dinosaur has been found perfectly preserved in amber from Myanmar.
The one-of-a-kind discovery helps put flesh on the bones of these extinct creatures, opening a new window on the biology of a group that dominated Earth for more than 160 million years.
Examination of the specimen suggests the tail was chestnut brown on top and white on its underside.
The tail is described in the journal Current Biology.
“This is the first time we’ve found dinosaur material preserved in amber,” co-author Ryan McKellar, of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum in Canada, told the BBC News website.
Tumblr media
The study’s first author, Lida Xing from the China University of Geosciences in Beijing, discovered the remarkable fossil at an amber market in Myitkina, Myanmar.
The 99-million-year-old amber had already been polished for jewellery and the seller had thought it was plant material. On closer inspection, however, it turned out to be the tail of a feathered dinosaur about the size of a sparrow.
Lida Xing was able to establish where it had come from by tracking down the amber miner who had originally dug out the specimen.
Dr McKellar said examination of the tail’s anatomy showed it definitely belonged to a feathered dinosaur and not an ancient bird.
Tumblr media
“We can be sure of the source because the vertebrae are not fused into a rod or pygostyle as in modern birds and their closest relatives,” he explained.
“Instead, the tail is long and flexible, with keels of feathers running down each side.”
Dr McKellar said there are signs the dinosaur still contained fluids when it was incorporated into the tree resin that eventually formed the amber. This indicates that it could even have become trapped in the sticky substance while it was still alive.
