2005 Today has been an eventful day. Though Black Hole has closed, we find ourselves with two new Representatives on park. Elias and Rebecca have taken to their new speed with considerable ease. We could not be prouder of our two foundlings. If Amber could see them... I only hope she finds her happiness. Ah- I must go. Lord Death Chicken is mewing at me.

2010 The Oblivion project still runs well, and Mel has begun work towards a new creation. The Research and Development department is loathe to follow her idea- but a majority may still be hanging on to the days of the Sanctuary. If she can deliver the base AI in a executable way, we may have a miracle of science to witness. If I never get another letter from Kelman on bringing those archaic ways back, however, I will be quite pleased.

2013 We found two people in one night, a few months ago. I don't know how they survived- but I am glad to say it seems we yet again have more Representatives to the Ministry's name. If Mother were up here right now... I am sure she would despise the way things are run. I am glad she cannot see it, as cruel as that may sound. These are strange days.

But I am no longer a stranger to things without rational explanation.

Annnnd that's Moore! Our wonderful Minister of Joy. I'm sure he has no skeletons in his closet, not at all. I can definitely tell you his cat is spoiled beyond belief though, and is the most boiled chicken thing in the whole park.

Today it was raining. A good, steady, soaking rain, my favorite. The kind of rain that makes me feel at peace, like I can breathe deeply for a few moments at least. I wanted to go outside and stand in that glorious rain.

But you see, I habitually put off nice things.

“Oh, I’ll play my game after I get x amount of work done.” “I’ll do my craft once I’ve finished three things on the to-do list.” “I’ll have this nice snack when I’ve figured out this bug in this piece of code.”

“Oh,” I said to myself. “I’ll go out in the rain when I’ve done that work I’m planning to do.”

And then I stopped and went. “Fractal. Why?”

Because, you see, the rain could stop while I was working. I might never finish the project. I might lose interest in the rain, or it could get too cold, or any number of small things that would prevent me from ever getting out in that good, steady, soaking rain. Keep me from feeling at peace, from breathing deeply for those few moments I could, with one action, give myself.

It would be foolish to risk passing that up, wouldn’t it?

So I went out in the rain.

And I breathed.

It is incredibly important to train yourself to have your first instinct be to look something up.

Don't know how to do something? Look it up.

See a piece of news mentioned on social media? Look it up.

Not sure if something is making it to the broader public consciousness, either because you don't see it much or you see people saying nobody is talking about it? Look it up.

Don't know what a word means? Look it up.

It will make you a better reader and a better writer, but it will also just make you more equipped to cope with the world.

So often, I see people talking about something as though it is the first time anyone has ever acknowledged it, when I've been reading reports about it on the news for months or years. Or I see someone totally misinterpreting an argument because they clearly don't know what a word means--or, on the other hand, making an argument that doesn't make sense because they aren't using words the right way.

Look things up! Check the news (the real news, not random people on social media)! Do your research! You (and the world) will be better for it.
