Eyes flickered open to a void of darkness being supported by a cold metallic platform. A dim room filled the ambience of the surroundings as gears made the loudest noises imaginable. The platform moved ruggedly along the guideway at a speed which instilled nausea in the boy.
The occasional jolt with the platform enforced the consciousness of the boy. Where am I? The boy thought. A flash of pictures flowed into his mind as he tried understanding where he was, what he was doing and who he was. The boy attempted to recollect any memories, though it was unsuccessful.
Unexpectedly, the platform halted, forcing the boy along its surface, landing into the railing. A yell echoed through the shaft, whilst it started ascending. Swaying from side to side, only made the nausea feeling worse. “Why am I here?” his voice projected. Still, the boy showed no attempt in standing, finding it more comfortable and stressless to lay in the same position he was left.
Thinking to himself, the boy kept trying to provoke a reaction in a recollection of memory, even if minimal. What is the place? Who put me here? And including in desperation, What is my name? The platform continued ascending, whilst he laid there, thinking. Finally, his eyes adapted to the darkness and could somewhat view his environment. Merely filled with crates, barrels and cages with animals, and himself.
It stopped. Gears cranked loudly as the ceiling began to open to a bright light, and exterior noises started to fill the once mechanical echoes. The light shun into his face, moving his forearm to shield himself. His eyes slowed acclimated to the sudden light change, whilst his ears absorbed every noise provided. The odd yell, feet stomping and quiet chatter filled the space.
Looking around the above ground, it was filled with a mixed amount and variety of boys, all with different features, he started picking up on their chatter.
“Look at the shank.”
“Can’t wait to scare him”
“What do you think he’s going to be”
“I already know what he’s going to do”
The boy was hit with confusion, as the nausea feeling worsened within his stomach. The boys surrounding him laughed and made comments in regards to him. He knew what he was getting himself into for this. A male jumped onto the platform and crouched down to him. “Time to get up, Greenie” the voice projected and forced him up out of the platform. Slowly raising himself, he looked at the faces of everyone around him, trying to analyse each person’s language until he saw the male who pulled him out. Staring. “What are you looking at, Greenie?” The male retorted.
A hand placed on his shoulder, and the boy turned around sharply. “Didn’t mean to scare you.” The person laughed. The mob started to dissipate, though a minority remained behind the male. Presumably the leader of this place. Merely, nodding in response. “And, your name is” The same person questioned. “I don’t know,” The boy answered. As the person was about to say another thing, the boy fell to his knees and started retching vomit onto the grass.
The group stepped back, as the male made a remark behind him. “Looks like this one is going to be the Med-Jack’s best friend” As he laughed at his comment, whilst the others helping him snickered. “That’s enough Gally.” A voice remarked behind the leader. “Anyways, the name is Alby” The person stated as he attempted to assist the boy. “That is obviously Gally as you can tell” He deadpanned. The voice behind Alby piped up, “And I’m Newt.”
“You are quite a surprise, as we were about to head off to our duties” Newt stated, with Alby in agreement. “Gally, be a good person and assist this Greenie, why don’t you?” Alby commanded as Gally started to walk off. Turning around slowly, Gally stared at Alby and then towards you. The group that is behind you began to walk off, with Alby and Newt snickering.
Gally stood there, staring back at the boy. “Coming or what?” Gally shouted in annoyance. The boy started walking attempting to catch up. Once side-by-side, the boy stood around 2 inches short of Gally. “This the glade, there is where we live whilst not dying from grievers,” Gally stated in a monotone voice. The boy got caught up in his mind, whilst Gally continued to talk about the glade, the rules and all the buildings as they walked. The boy stopped. Gally stopped after noticing the others' absence. Walking up to the boy. “You all good, Greenie?” The voice questioned. “Augus.” The boy started quietly.
“Well, that's rather the occasion” Gally remarked, and started walking off. Alby appeared out of nowhere. “So you remembered your name? It's rather rare for someone to be remembering that rather quickly for the time in the glade” Alby paused. “Look, I don’t know if Gally told you this, but our glade has jobs assigned to everyone. I'll assign you to be a builder, seeing as you’ve managed to get on someone’s good side.” Alby stated as he walked off
Laying in the hammock he was provided, Augus stared into the sky and closed his eyes. A noise started filling his mind, seeing the face of an unknown character stare at him through the window as he laid on a bed. A body with short black hair and brown eyes looked down on him. Looking over at a machine, a needle was stuck into his forearm. Screaming in pain. He awoke, at the break of dawn. Looking out, he saw a figure standing looking into the distance. Gally? He thought.
