I've been doing nothing but digital art for a looooong while and GUYS-

When I was drawing Sun, I KID YOU NOT- I tried to zoom in like on digital, out of MUSCLE MEMORY.. I watched in horror as my pointer finger and thumb dragged across the paper in hopes of allowing me to see closer..

I had to pause and try and regain my mental health and breath from how long I laughed at myself istg

Also REALL on sooo many things HAH feet are weird- Like- I gotta make sure they look good, but not too good, ya'know?? Like I can't make it look like I'm into them or somethn??? Also drawing characters in the same position over and over again IS SO HARD TO NOT DO ;-; and lastly, same- I also make the middle and ring finger too long sometimes, and the pinky too small :,) One of the reasons why I basically quit paper and pencil (Nah cuz fr I haven't drawn on paper in literal months) I hate the look of still visible eraser marks AAAGGGGHHHHH

here's a page I did that shows some of the most basic "rules" I follow!

This line here shows a bit of what I do for arms, but you didn't seem to have much of a problem with those! Your drawings are amaztastic! (Amazing & fantastic XD) It also shows a cleaner look on how I draw thumbs (my personal favorite part of drawing hands) and fingers!

One on the left just shows what I envision when sketching the shape of the palm and base of the thumb, as well as shows the shape I follow when doing the fingers, I make the fingertips a bit larger then the middle of the finger, it creates a small slope.

One on the right gives another look on how I do thumbs if you want to practice :D a big thing I wanted to add was the ring finger and pinky finger! If you looked closely, there's a green arch connecting them, as well as bing a slightly different color. I did this to show that these two fingers seem to keep close to each other when doing or holding stuff, same with the pointer and middle finger, just not as close it seems. This is something I don't hear a lot of people talk about, but found helpful when I noticed it and was first learning hands!

This kinda shows that a little bit. Im definitely still learning myself tho heh..

This line shows what I use very often. This is the shape I use to draw the base, or I guess back of the palm.

Its an odd shape, so Im not sure how to properly describe it, but just make sure the more flat part of it is slanted a bit! And I also add a slight bump at the top, thats just the wrist bone showing. The top end is where I usually always place the first finger, this can always change due to position and direction of the center view, this is an almost side view!

Then, I make a few lines above the somewhat flat line of the sketched palm, those are the knuckles! I somewhat recently started adding these to help me with finger placement, and just found them to make the whole hand look better!Then, the next more important part- sketching the fingers, to first figure out placement, I just start with plain stick, nothing works better lol

The finger is made of three sticks, each one gets shorter the the first, and the middle has kinda the most swing or arch in it I think..

OoooooooooOOOooooOooook I think I'm finished! NOTE! Im still definitely an advanced beginner!!⬅️ So, sorry if I'm unknowingly steering you wrong! Everything I've learned is from viewing the world around me and references! Never be afraid to search up a photo of the pose your doing if you get stuck! Can't find the exact pose? Take a picture of you doing it, trust me, it's worth the embarrassment of doing it the first few times lol, I still have a few pictures in my gallery of just my hands because I couldn't find an exact reference photo 😅 Anyways, last tip: really notice the world around you, take silent note of how yours or a strangers hand looks in a certain position or how another person drew it, cause one day you might to need to remember what the pose looked like so you can draw it!

Hope I'm not wasting your time and you might have learned something from my shaky advice, don't be afraid to start learning how to draw hands, it'll get easier the more you try! And trust me.. there's not a feeling similar to the feeling of finally learning/understanding hands..

Imma be real, the reason I suck at hands is because I got mad when I made Zero (0) progress after studying them for a month and I rage quit lol. I don’t know what it is, but hands and feet are the bane of my existence, along with any profile that isn’t full forward— you’d think after drawing for more than ten years (15-17, I think???) that I’d get the hang of it 🗿I’m just a little slow, unfortunately ✊😔

I mostly just do bust shots, or I find a way to conveniently hide them. I’ve studied the hand extensively, photos of my own in poses, looking online, watching other artists— the works. It is my fatal flaw (I am currrrrsed😔😔)

It’s gotta be something in my brain at this point. I’ve even tried tracing just to practice. No dice 🗿🗿🗿 I always joke to my mom that it’s just because hands are homophobic 😔💅✨

Anyway—

I think it’s hilarious that the thumb is your favorite, because I absolutely HATE that motherfucker. Why it gotta be special and shaped so differently?? Why does it need that stupid piece of webbing that stretches and moves??? Absolute pick me behavior tbh 😒😒 Middle fingers are also annoying imo, I always make them things too long… knuckles too. Despise those thangs. I be praying on they downfall 🙏

However!! I do really like drawing palms, those are pretty easy. Whenever I do decide to draw hands, I typically just draw the palm, the thumb, and a curved shape where the fingers would go. But like, without separating the into individual fingers, if that makes sense?? (I don’t have my sketchbook on meeeee aaawwwwwaaaaaaaa)

It’s the Ruin DLC’s 2nd birthday on the 25th of July. For all my fellow DCA enjoyers, I’ve decided I wanted to host a week of Eclipse appreciation as I’ve noticed there is a considerable lack of art and fics for the canon soft sweetheart Eclipse. I understand it’s also art fight so please don’t push yourselves on anything if you’re trying to do both. I’ve wanted to do this since last year. This will run from the 19th to the 25th, ending on the DLCS and Eclipse’s birthday! So here are some quick rules!

Keep it to the Canon Ruin DLC eclipse! Not SAMS/Sun and Moon Show Eclipse/Solar/Ruin Eclipse, fanon, whichever. This is to show love to the canon eclipse and should be the main focus!

Let’s avoid any suggestive themes, plain nsfw, basically anything you wouldn’t want a minor possibly seeing.

urm, excuse me- Who allowed you to be able to to come up with such BRILLIANT ideas AND be able to draw?!

I redrew Moon rq to follow your design better, and here's an explanation on what I added onto it!!

Lune species are MADE to go fast- Their body's being thinner vertically and powerful muscles in their lower abdomen and above their fluke. They've evolved to have multiple pectoral and pelvic fins to be able to steer themselves when zipping through the vast waters or through coal or rock formations. I also gave him six gills, two on his neck that lead to a pair of specialized lungs that can get the oxygen from the humidity in the air above water, and fully submerged, and four on his sides that work just like any fish gill!! this larger number of gills helps get more oxygen to the brain as their speeding, like a horse and large nostrils!!!

Because they are nocturnal as well as dwell in deeper waters, they are almost always in the darkness; to adapt, they evolved large eyes to absorb as much surrounding light as possible, as well as having extremely good night vision. But sometimes this isn't enough, so they have also adapted to have long sensory appendages, (like wiggley whiskers) that help them see around them, and help them determine if they're close to swimming into a rock, or if they're small enough to fit into that cave and not get stuck. (These can be seen on his neck, chest, back, wrists, underbelly, and lower tail. And maybe the fins on his head too, but im not sure..) Another thing that is close to this is their lines of latitude. (A real thing sharks have!) This is a series of fluid-filled canals beneath the skin, there to detect movement and vibrations in the surrounding water. This system acts like a "distant touch," allowing Lunes to sense prey, navigate, and perceive their environment by detecting changes in water pressure and currents. (This can be seen on his cheeks and all along his sides, except the larger circles, those are something different!)

I absolutely love the idea of Moon having neuro toxins!!! Deadly boy~

On Lunes, they have things called Crinotoxins! Crinotoxins are a type of animal poison, (Zootoxin) and they are produced by specialized poison glands but unlike venoms, crinotoxins are passively released into the environment, typically through a pore. This means that organisms must come into contact, ingest or breath the crinotoxins in through the gills to be affected! These effects range on the size of the creature it is being used on, the bigger the creature, the less effected.. (These can be seen on his side in the middle of his tail.)

Now I wondered what Moon would feel like, again finding the answer in sharks-! I think Lune skin would be made up of dermal denticles! Tooth-like scales that cover the skin of sharks and rays, also known as placoid scales. Dermal denticles are composed of dentine, a hard, bonelike substance, and are covered with an enamel-like layer. They are embedded in the skin, with the pointed tip facing backward, giving the skin a rough, sandpaper-like texture when rubbed from tail to head. This also makes it hard for crustaceans like barnacles to grow on their skin! Unlike Sols..

Another thing I thought would be cool to add was something I noticed on specific species of monkeys-! On some of their tails, right at the end, they will have a bald spot on the underside of the end of the tail, and the skin there looks calloused, basically another evolved "hand!"

I added this to moon, but instead gave him squid-like suction cups at the end of his hat-like lure, allowing him the ability to grasp and hold things with it!!! (This can obviously be seen at the end of his hat, or lure!) You gotta be careful though, tiny little hooks, or claws lie delicately in the cups..

Aaaaaaaaannnnd last but not least! A question I had on my mind about Sols and Lunes! If they court and mate for life, then this MUST mean there's hybrids out there!!! Or maybe their species have grown to genetically far apart and can no longer have offspring together. Would this maybe lead them to still partner up with the opposite species for obvious symbolic survival, but every mating season or once in a lifetime go search for another one of their kind to produce an offspring? And if so, which parent does the fry go to when raising?

And another thing! How would male and female differences go with Sols and Lunes? Would there be a size difference between them? Me personally I like the thought of female Sols being larger then the males while it's the opposite with Lunes. Another thing to think about if if they would have any big physical differences between genders too, like maybe longer or shorter lures on Lunes or more flamboyant fins on Sols??

So so so many questions, and my gosh.. it feels so good to get all my biology knowledge out on something...I may be taking this a lllllllittle to realistic..but that's what's fun to me
