While strawberries certainly are a reddish-pink color and are roundish in shape, the origin of the name “Strawberry Moon” has nothing to do with the Moon’s hue or appearance.
• June's full Moon is typically the last full moon of spring or the first of summer. The June Full Moon will be extraordinary. For the first time since 1985, Full Moon happens precisely on the summer solstice, when the Sun is highest up. Because the Full Moon is always opposite the Sun, this year, you will see that the Moon is 10 widths lower on the horizon than the Sun ever is.
This “Strawberry Moon” name has been used by Native American Algonquian tribes that live in the northeastern United States as well as the Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota peoples to mark the ripening of “June-bearing” strawberries that are ready to be gathered. The Haida term Berries Ripen Moon reflects this as well. As flowers bloom and early fruit ripens, June is a time of great abundance for many.

The history of Litha reveals its deep connections to ancient agricultural societies & their reliance on the sun's power. Celebrated as part of the Wheel of the Year, Litha symbolizes the balance between light & darkness. Throughout history  customs such as bonfires, herb gathering & the construction of sunwheels have marked this festival. Today, Litha continues to be celebrated by various communities, with gatherings at sacred sites & private rituals in natural settings. It serves as a reminder of our connection with nature and the cycles of life.
• The traditions of Litha appear to be borrowed from many cultures. Most ancient cultures celebrated the summer solstice in some way such as the Celts celebrated Litha with hilltop bonfires & dancing. Many people attempted to jump over or through the bonfires for good luck. Other European traditions included setting large wheels on fire & rolling them down a hill into a body of water.
Litha is often associated with Midsummer, a celebration that extends beyond the pagan and Wiccan traditions. Midsummer festivities are observed in many cultures around the world, including Scandinavian countries where it holds a prominent place in their cultural heritage. Midsummer dances, bonfires, & feasts are integral parts of these celebrations, often accompanied by folklore and traditional rituals that honor the sun's energy and the abundance of nature during this time.
The summer solstice is the longest day of the year & in some traditions, Litha is when The Sun(The God) is symbolically at it's peak time of power & the World will soon be ripe to harvest. It is also when The Goddess is pregnant with The God who is to be reborn at Yule.
• In the Northern Hemisphere the Summer Solstice occurs when the Sun reaches its highest and northernmost points in the sky. It marks the start of summer in the northern half of the globe. (In contrast, the June solstice in the Southern Hemisphere is when the Sun is at its lowest point in the sky, marking the start of winter.)
Some also believe the history & spirit of Litha revolve around two deities, The Oak King & The Holly King. In Wiccan and Neo-Pagan traditions, each King rules the Earth for half of the year. From Yule to Litha, the Oak King rules. On Litha, the two battled for the crown and it is then that the Holly King triumphs. The Holly King will rule through fall until Yule, and the cycle will begin again.
Related festivals:
• Vestalia- June 7th -15th
Was a Roman religious festival in honor of Vesta, the goddess of the hearth & the burning continuation of the sacred fire of Rome. It was held from 7–15 June & was reserved as a women's-only event. Domestic & family life in general were represented by the festival of the goddess of the house & of the spirits of the storechamber — Vesta & the Penates .
On the first day of festivities the penus Vestae (sanctum sanctorum of the temple of Vesta which was usually curtained off) was opened for the only time during the year, at which women offered sacrifices. As long as the curtain remained open, mothers could come, barefoot and disheveled, to leave offerings to the goddess in exchange for a blessing to them and their family.
For the last day, the penus Vestae was solemnly closed, the Flaminica Dialis observed mourning & the temple was subjected to a purification called stercoratio: the filth was swept from the temple and carried next by the route called clivus Capitolinus and then into the Tiber.

herbs for the summer solstice: 🌞
Tumblr media
i’ve been wanting to write more about alchemy and herbalism, but i also wanted to connect it to astrology !! so today i’ll be talking about a few solar herbs and how they can be used to celebrate litha:
juniper: burn the leaves as a form of smoke cleansing, use the berries in your cooking
marigold: plant one in your garden or keep on potted near your front door
chamomile: use a candle or lotion with chamomile in it. you can also drink chamomile tea
saffron: offer some on your altar or use it in your cooking
rosemary: sprinkle some in a line outside your front and back doors to protect your space. use the essential oil as you clean surfaces
sunflower: decorate the house with these or feed your local birds with some sunflower seeds
bay leaves: write a wish down on a bay leaf and burn it
st. john’s wort: hang some near a window or put a little bit in a candle to anoint it
A FEW POINTERS:
perform the ritual during a sun hour
bathe the herbs in sunlight before using them
make sure the herbs have been dried
burn the herbs or involve fire in your ritual
wear gold jewelry or yellow clothing while you do your spellwork
use yellow paper or yellow ink for your spell petition(s)
book a reading !!

as always, I forgot about a major witchy holiday! so, I put together this quick list of ways you can celebrate with little preparation.
make sun tea
bask in the sunlight/spend time outdoors
no bonfire? no problem! light a candle (or three)
dehydrate some slices of citrus and decorate your altar with them
give some extra love to your garden/houseplants
buy fresh, in-season fruit to enjoy
help save the bees by making bee habitats, plant bee-friendly flowers, make bee waterers, and/or buy local honey
make honey cakes
happy summer solstice, everyone!

Be sure to store the finished syrup in the fridge.
Been feeling not so joyous lately, grocery store had a deal on oranges and lemons, so figured I'd try something and see how it goes.

Hi I'm back and have an idea for a spell for energy throughout the day.
So you know those chilled Starbucks drinks in glass?
Tumblr media
Get one.
Draw a sigil for energy on the lid like so to be discreet. Be sure to charge and activate it too.
Tumblr media
Now simply enchant the drink itself to give you energy throughout the day in order to enhance the effectiveness of the spell.
Then similar to a spell jar, shake it to activate the spell.
Of course, you could also play around with the flavor too and it's correspondence.
Drink up to give yourself a boost of energy when you need it.

Hi, what spell or amulet would you recommend when lacking energy ? I tried something last Sunday but I am getting the opposite result, I feel more tired since I performed this spell.
Hey there! Yeah I can definitely throw some ideas at you to help with this ❤️
Well, I will first suggest you completely undo the spell. If you feel more drained and are tracing that loss of energy to the time you did the spell, it may be having adverse effects and may need to be dealt with. Burn what can be burned, cleanse it all, throw away what you cannot safely burn, bury what you can (don't bury salt, wax, plastic, glitter, or anything that can harm the earth). Dismantling the spell and disposing of the ingredients can undo the spells effects quite immediately.
Grounding can help a LOT with energy. Visualizing a tendril of energy coming up from the ground and connecting to the base of your spine and then a second tendril coming from the ether and connecting to the top of your head can kinda give you a buzz of energy that feels honestly amazing.
You could also reclaim your energy and call it back, that could help as well (it wont take energy back from spells you need your energy to stick to, no worries there). The way I do it is i put my hand over the center of my chest and say "I call back all of my energy from all people, places, and spaces that has been taken knowingly or unknowingly at this moment." Spice it up and elaborate on it if you wish, but just proclaiming that your energy should return to you can work well. Visualizing all energy coming back to you like little balls of light/energy and being reabsorbed back into you helps with this too.
As for a spell itself... I found this spell on Tumblr somewhere but cannot find the post itself. Regardless, here is the spell jar for energy that I have:
Ingredients:
Black pepper: Keep me alert and attentive
Onyx: For focus and persistence
Citrine: Plenty of energy and prevent me from feeling too cranky
Clear quartz: For a clear head, remain alert all night, and to boost the power of the spell
Red agate: Strength to survive the day, prevent mental fog
Coffee grounds: Energy, prevent mental fog
Bay leaves: Banish sleep, remain active physically and mentally
Dragon’s Blood: Energy, enhances the power of the spell
A sigil for your intent (e.g.: “I am alert and awake my entire shift”)
Other possible ingredients: - Candle a color you associate with energy - Oregano: Boost energy and confidence - Carnelian: Energy and enthusiasm - Hematite: Remain awake, grounded, and focused
Throw it all into a jar and carry it with you. You can substitute or leave out ingredients you don't have. Like Coffee grounds can be subbed for Black Tea. It has similar properties and a high caffeine content so it does the same thing. Rosemary can be used for energy and mental clarity, Frankincense Resin/Incense for power/banishing exhaustion/fatigue.
Here are some other herbs you can use that have the magical correspondence of increasing energy:
Purple dead nettle mint lovage juniper oregano chili sunflower tangerine vanilla astragalus root angelica zedoaria dragon's blood Guggul Resin Sea Lettuce Cherry Bark Carnation Paprika Ginger
On a mundane level, i may suggest checking to see if you may have chronic fatigue or if something you are currently diagnosed with (or meds) can cause this. Or maybe you are just having one of those weeks. I have this and it can last for a while. It could have been exacerbated by the spell. Maybe you don't have chronic fatigue and it was just the spell, but i would be remiss if I didn't also suggest mundane solutions/suggestions as well as magical.
I hope this helps a bit! Let me know if you need any other help!

I'm excited to announce that I'll be teaching Resource Math again next school year! Despite a lot of change within our department and chaos for me this school year, things are looking up. I get to keep my room, I'll get a sneak peak at who I'll have on my caseload in advance, and I'll be able to better plan for this next year since I know where we're leaving off at.
In order to help me get better prepared I've decided to share my classroom wishlist. These are all things I would normally buy out of pocket for and will need next year. The things marked the highest priority (pencils, tissues, notebooks, etc) are all things that my students definitely need and almost never have unless I've been able to get to the store that week. Any support helps, truly.
Thank you to my tumblr/witchblr community for being a steady resource in this neuvo-dystopia.
