Weston J. Welker, MD, is an outstanding emergency medicine physician and family practitioner in Huntsville, Alabama. Following medical school, Dr. Welker served in the United States Army from 1980 through 1987. He taught at the University of Virginia and has also participated on a TV show. His professional journey spans more than 30 years and has special expertise in emergency medicine, preventive medicine, medial teaching, family medicine, heart attack, strokes, diabetic ketoacidosis, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, critical medicine, trauma medicine, prostate disease, cholesterol management, headaches, sports injuries, cancer screening, and wound care. Dr. Welker also works as a Medical Review Officer, a role he assumed in 2005. Along with a history of military medicine experience and VA experience, he has concomitant history of emergency department experience in various hospitals across the Midwest and South. Weston J. Welker, MD, received his medical degree in 1980 at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama. Following his graduation, he was an intern and resident at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center. Prior to medical school, Dr. Welker obtained a bachelor’s degree of science in biology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a master’s degree of science in biochemistry in 1976 at the University of Alabama. He maintains active memberships with the Alabama Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Academy of Medical Review Officers. Dr. Welker is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and has received the coveted title of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. As a result of his outstanding performance in the fields of emergency medicine and family medicine, The International Association of HealthCare Professionals (IAHCP) has selected Weston J. Welker, MD, to be featured in the premier publication of The Leading Physicians of the World. He feels that he owes his success to his faith, family support, and good education.
