Thinking about how the creator of mouthwashing said that a huge part of the horror is meant to be that every player will identify in some way with Jimmy, relate to him on some level, and realize that they share some traits with such an awful person, with that being what "I hope this hurts" was meant to mean. The point is that Jimmy is someone you are going to feel a connection to and that should hurt, that should cause you to reflect. Anyway I think the mouthwashing fandom really missed that because there is a truly awful self righteousness problem that no one is doing any self reflection on. I actively avoid the fandom for this reason every post I see from the mouthwashing fandom is people talking about other fans the same way Jimmy talks about the other members of the crew (esp Curly and Anya) with 0 self awareness lol.

This is going to make a lot of you very angry, but I hope you all understand that no one on the ship is completely innocent. Swansea let his inebriation get the better of him, Daisuke helped Jimmy knock Swansea out, and there's absolutely no way Anya didn't know about Jimmy's physical and medical abuse. There's no such thing as a perfect victim on the Tulpar, but you shouldn't be taking this as an accusation that they're all just as bad as Jimmy or that they "deserved" the outcome because of their flaws.

"Deserve" is the wrong word, the only one that technically "deserved" anything was Jimmy, and even then, that's still the wrong word to use. The whole crew is uncomfortably human, and it's set to remind you that even the best people have their worst moments and that their worst moments do not define them wholly or absolve them from any possibility of a happy ending or being safe/rescued.

None of them are entirely "innocent", but they are not "guilty" either. The only thing, the only presence and force that deserved anything at all was Pony Express, as they are the only reason why what happened, happened. Their negligence, ignorance and general laziness to even have anything in place for emergencies like this is why anything even happened in the first place. Please stop forgetting that there is a higher power at play here and that it's Pony Express who directly enabled Jimmy's bad behaviour, not Curly.
