Uhhh can you please write about katniss and Peeta feeling the first kick of their daughter?
I shall! Might take me a few days. Got the Eras tour this weekend. Thank you for asking though. Would love to hear your notes when I post it. This’ll be the first ever thing I’ve properly written.

re-reading the end arena scene in the first hunger games book and i really don't think the movie did it justice. katniss and peeta are literally covered in blood (fresh and dried), and dirt. their hair is matted, peeta can't even stand on his own. they’re both almost skeletons. when they realize the capitols going to make them kill each other peeta throws away his knife but katniss has so much ptsd she almost shoots him without even thinking when she sees him raise a knife, and then panics realizing what shes doing even though peeta is almost begging her to let him die. he's so close to death that he knows even uncovering his wound (which he does) will be letting katniss win. when katniss comes up with the plan to eat the berries the berries are FULLY in their mouths, and they can taste them before the gamekeeper call it off. and peeta gives her a 'very gentle' kiss (in katniss's own words) before they eat the berries. peeta passes out the second they're on the helicopter and katniss is so feral they sedate her from behind after she’s done screaming for peeta
everything about this scene is absolutely tragic and horribly painful.

Katniss: “So I go ahead and tell [Prim] about Peeta, his deterioration on-screen, and how I think they must be killing him at this very moment…there’s this piercing sort of pain where my heart is. Maybe I’m even having a heart attack, but it doesn’t seem worth mentioning.
“…The pain over my heart returns, and from it I imagine tiny fissures spreading out into my body. Through my torso, down my arms and legs, over my face, leaving it crisscrossed with cracks. One good jolt of a bunker missile and I could shatter into strange, razor-sharp shards.”
Also Katniss: I’m not in love with Peeta what are you talking about I’m just constantly worried about him and thinking about him and the idea that he’s hurt and maybe dying makes me also feel like I’m maybe dying.

what makes Snow such a formidable villain within THG universe is that nothing he does was set in stone. there was no sense of inevitability about his actions and his brutality. Snow had enough perspective of poverty, capital cruelty, district hunger and not to mention his own arena experience’ and yet he actively chose at every moment to stray from natural goodness. its even more terrifying in the sense that he had the ability to care. Snow is not a mindless sociopath, he displays feelings to others such as sejanus, lucy grey and tigris but ultimately he will always choose himself. his ability to betray those he cared about in order yo advance himself makes him so much more than the stereotypical villain who is forced into his actions.

May 8th
Birthdays in THG 1:
I kept telling myself if I could only hold out until May, just May 8th, I would turn twelve and be able to sign up for the tesserae and get that precious grain and oil to feed us.
On May 8th, I went to the Justice Building, signed up for my tesserae, and pulled home my first batch of grain and oil in Prim’s toy wagon.
He [Peeta] means the ones they display in the windows. Fancy cakes with flowers and pretty things painted in frosting. They’re for birthdays and New Year’s Day. When we’re in the square, Prim always drags me over to admire them, although we’d never be able to afford one. There’s little enough beauty in District 12, though, so I can hardly deny her this.
“Ah, that’ll be nice,” says Peeta, tightening his arms around me. “You and me and Haymitch. Very cozy. Picnics, birthdays, long winter nights around the fire retelling old Hunger Games tales.”

So I’ve always thought that Haymitch telling Katniss she wouldn’t deserve Peeta in a hundred lifetimes was him being bitter and angry with the decisions he has to make. And he may just be slightly harsher to her because she’s similar to him. But I’ve always thought that on the other end he would also be similarly harsh to Peeta in certain circumstances and we just don’t see those conversations. I know we all love Peeta but he’s just as annoying(affectionate) as Katniss. I could definitely see Haymitch calling him ungrateful for icing out Katniss after she saved his life. And I refuse to think Haymitch didn’t have colorful things to say when Coach Peeta was out.
My point being that my idea of Haymitch when he’s really being an asshole is that he comes off like this to Katniss and Peeta despite loving them and wanting them together:

can we please normalise katniss not forgiving her mother as an adult. 🩷
katniss can understand the love her mother felt for her father and the blow that his death had on her.
she can empathise with the debilitating grief and depression.
she can acknowledge that it wasn’t entirely her mother’s fault, that access to medicine had a large roll to play in her mother’s ability to take care of her daughters.
she can understand that the neglect was very much due to external factors, and still not have any obligation to forgive her mother for abandoning her—not once, but twice—especially when the second time was after she had full access to the necessary mood stablising drugs and still left her severely traumatised, still underaged child and only living family to return to district 12 by herself with not even an offer to come stay with her in 4.
additionally, it’s not katniss’ job to maintain or build a relationship with the woman who let her children starve in front of her very eyes until her 11-year-old had to risk her life in the woods to take care of her 7-year-old.
mrs. everdeen had every opportunity to care for katniss and try to rebuild the trust she lost so long ago, but when it really counted, she didn’t even try.

so when katniss and peeta are in the cave and he keeps nodding off and then she kisses him awake, and then he smiles at katniss "as if he'd be happy to lie there gazing at me forever."
at this point in his illness, peeta knew he was dying. i don't think he expected to wake up again. so when he's awakened by the feeling of katniss' lips pressed against his and opens his eyes to see her smiling at him and hears her use a special voice for him that he's never heard before but sounds like love, for a second, he probably thought, maybe, being dead isn't so bad.
and then he sees the pot of broth in katniss' hand, feels his wounds pressed against the hard stone floor of the cave, and comes to his senses. and that's when he realizes he needs to fight like hell to live. because he's starting to think it might be his only chance to see heaven.

Does anyone ever think about D12’s water supply? Where does it come from? Is it filtered?
When learning about fracking in school I learnt about how the water is contaminated with the chemicals being pumped to draw out the water from fissures, is there a similar case with mining? Does coal dust, as it is ever, line their pipes or is it minerals like copper that can help make water cleaner. Are their chemicals in their water? Why do they have it running freely? It is stated that Katniss and her family survived on water and mint leaves, which to me gives the impression water is free flowing.
To what extent do the Capitol dehumanise the population of D12. They starve them, extra food shippings wouldn’t be too hard to allow into the district alongside ingredients like the Mellark bakery have. They force them into mines which target your lungs. They are deemed as hopeless when reaped. They aren’t entertaining which is all the Capitol want so wouldn’t it be easier to slowly eliminate the district by cutting off the water supply? Where on earth do you find a supply where you can transport water from, Katniss’s lake? No, too far. Why hasn’t it become a bad memory like they could so easily do, like Snow does with noncompliant Victor’s families? Is Snow still somewhat smitten over Lucy Gray? Does he feel like he owes her something? Does he feel even a hint of remorse? Because I really understand that it should be easy to get rid of them and their memory and everything they stood for?
Also what’s coal used for? In a fic I read they had hydroelectric dams, in the films they gave hydroelectric dams, that can sustain a population if they were to cut off other electricity use in different districts, which they wouldn’t be opposed to let’s be real. Capitol citizens wouldn’t want that dirt in their home. They’d have a fake fire like a good half of us have. Perhaps it’s to fuel other district like 8, working in factories like they do with unsafe fuel combustion. In Five that’s likely where the combustion takes place, the hazardous fossil fuel burning polluting their skies? But there are many other renewable resources that we are still discovering today (I understand it was written over ten years ago, let’s be real, if it was written today, there would be fracking not coal mining) that an entire district could be dividely dedicated, perhaps creating class differences like in 12.
What do the Merchants do for the district? Only they can afford what they sell, they don’t contribute to the exported workforce. Most of the reaping slips are from Seam per their teserae, is it to spark interest when one, Peeta, is reaped? The Seam, backbone of the district, hardly need them, Greasy Sae for example. It would create a stronger sense of community which may be a problem when trying to be presented as ‘savages’.
And this all brings me to the question; how long was the bombing planned for? Maybe it’s just because of Katniss being a big fuck you to the Capitol or maybe it’s because it’s delayed due to sentimental reasons? What about when Snow visits Katniss in her house, how did he journey through the District, how did he feel being back?
Did the series dehumanise Snow in the way he dehumanised the district?

Thinking about how Katniss's relationship with her mother gets better as her romance with Peeta progresses. How she is basically saying "I know what it is to love now. I understand the pain you went through when Dad died. I'm sorry"

Haymitch doesn't like going to the doctor's alone he always brings Effie 😭
Oh boy get ready for my controversial opinion on this pairing: I don’t think Effie and Haymitch want to or ever do become a real couple. I think they’re just too different.
Do I think they care for each other very deeply, probably even love each other? Yes 1000% (peep the Trisha reference), have they probably been having semi regular sex for years? Yes 1000% I just don’t think they ever want to become a real couple.
I think that during the games they had a sort of workplace forced proximity based relationship which was only the workplace partnership plus some recreational physical activity (lol), but nothing really beyond that. I mean, Haymitch is very much an alcoholic and not pleasant to be around. He’s also unlikely to change for Effie of all people, based on his past trauma and his attitude towards forming close relationships. I think that they get to know each other somewhat during that pre Katniss and Peeta time and develop a certain respect and friendship for the other.
Once the rebellion happens and Effie is imprisoned and eventually released they return to their friendship I think, mainly via occasional phone calls. Effie sometimes visits to see the whole gang, but I think Haymitch has a habit of telling her to get herself someone worthy of her once and for all.
I also think that Effie eventually does find that person and that her #1 cheerleader is Haymitch himself. He is truly happy for her and thinks she deserves to be happy. He has a toast ready to go for her wedding.
Whether or not Haymitch ever gets a partner is difficult for me to picture. I think it would be nice, and that Katniss probably wants that for him, but I don’t think Haymitch would seek anyone out for himself. I think he’d require a meddling daughter and meddling former friends-with-benefits duo to get him into a relationship.
I love the hayffie stories, of course, but I think it’s only plausible with the versions of Haymitch and Effie we get in the movies, not the book versions. I think that the book versions have a deeply loving/caring connection but are not compatible in lifestyle. I can’t see book Effie moving to 12 to be with Haymitch. I also don’t see any version of Haymitch ever moving away from district 12 for any woman.
So to get back to the topic of this actual ask, I think the last person Haymitch is gonna let talk him into visiting the doctor is Effie. Just because of the dynamic of their friendship — it’s very much a you can’t tell me what to do (playful) vibe. The only woman in his life who can force him to do things is (and don’t you tell her) Katniss. He loves that girl to pieces and she knows and abuses that fact. Eventually things get worse when Katniss gives birth to her mini-me and he’s once again forced to love an Everdeen girl at the cost of his own peace of mind (woe is him lmao).
