Alyssa nodded slowly and turned back to her, all her actions were slow. She was quiet for a moment, thinking through what she would say, she figured an okay would work for now, “okay.” She squeaked out, no wonder her dad used to call her squeaky. She nodded and began to walk to the coffee shop with Alex.
Alyssa then fell back, taking a step back. She sensed that Alex didn’t feel comfortable, and she knew she probably wouldn’t either. She didn’t want to cause any more pain for Alex, or her family, by showing up and reminding them of what her father did. She let a sigh...

Alyssa then fell back, taking a step back. She sensed that Alex didn't feel comfortable, and she knew she probably wouldn't either. She didn't want to cause any more pain for Alex, or her family, by showing up and reminding them of what her father did. She let a sigh out, her whole body slumped slightly now, not a whole lot, but enough so anyone could notice the sadness the girl felt.
"I'm sorry. I should've known better than to bother you." Alyssa said quietly, brushing a strand of loose hair back behind her ear, but it didnt help. She was looking at the ground and her hair fell forward, hiding her face. She kicked a rock lightly before glancing up with sad eyes, "Just know I am sorry." she added, trying hard not to cry as she turned to walk away.

Alyssa looked up from the book she had been reading, it was some young adult fiction book. She noticed Alex and just looked at her, her blue eyes met with Alex’s eyes. She let her book close and waved slightly at Alex, trying to give a small smile as well. She couldn’t decide whether she wanted to walk over and say something, or just keep her distance. How could she apologize for what her father did? How could she tell Alex that she wasn’t like him and that she wanted to be friends again, like they were. Alyssa longed for the past when she and Alex would eat popsicles and hang out on the swings at recess. She didn’t even notice that her feet began to move, not until she was less than five feet away from Alex.
"Hey." Alyssa said quietly, smiling a little at Alex, "I…was hoping to see you again, I wanna talk."

Alyssa looked up from the book she had been reading, it was some young adult fiction book. She noticed Alex and just looked at her, her blue eyes met with Alex's eyes. She let her book close and waved slightly at Alex, trying to give a small smile as well. She couldn't decide whether she wanted to walk over and say something, or just keep her distance. How could she apologize for what her father did? How could she tell Alex that she wasn't like him and that she wanted to be friends again, like they were. Alex had a tendency to not look where she was going. She didn’t really care if she saw people in her way, because she figured it was their responsibility to look out for her. When she was knocked down by some older guy with a beer belly, she started shouting and began to pick herself up off the ground. However, the man turned around, and Alex froze. Not because he was staring at her, but because she thought she had seen someone she hadn’t spoken to in years. "Alyssa?" she muttered, mostly talking to herself. Part of her wanted to turn and walk away quickly, hoping that her old friend—if that was even who it was—didn’t see her. The other part of her wanted to stay rooted where she was, and that was the part that won out. Standing in the middle of the sidewalk like an idiot, Alex continued to stare, forming fists with her hands at her side.

"I…I just wanted to ask him…about…about what my dad did…I…have to know," Alyssa took a deep breath, "No one ever told me and…I need to know who raised me…"
Alyssa nodded, “Okay…” she slowly stepped inside.
