My name is Joseph Hayes and I was a child used to baby trap my mother, whom hates me for my mere existence. My father raised me in the isolated environment of our family mansion and through his teachings, I was under the expectation to be perfect in every conceivable way.
I brought Starbursts
Ooc//I saw this and wanted to do this too
Trauma candy salad!
Hi I'm Freddie and I was raised very harshly by my maternal grandparents until I was 10 and I brought classic Haribos :D

He took another sip of his drink and returned the lighthearted smile, seemed the alcohol was finally loosening him up (thank GOD). Well, as long as he didn't too intoxicated, he shouldn't have to worry about letting anything slip.
"Neither do I, Miss Eleison. Anyway, I'd love to~"
He noticed the whiskey bottle was half full. (just don't get too drunk, Joseph and all will be well.)
Midnight. Kenneth farmhouse, the kitchen.
One Claudia Eleison, the latest resident of the farm, stood leaning back on a counter with a glass of whiskey in hand. (The bottle was her's.) A small candle and the moonlight illuminated the scene.
A sigh.
She didn't believe anyone was awake, not at this hour. So Once this was done, she would just return to her shared room without having disturbed anyone . Or so she thought.

At the 'did you now?' It was like he snapped back into focus and suddenly his blush became a blush of embarrassment as he chuckled anxiously, pouring himself a bit more whiskey and taking a sip before acknowledging her second statement
"Yes, he certainly had his oddities. I'm terribly sorry he wasn't there for you though."

lie, LIE, LIE!
The man went to nervously take another sip of his drink just to find his glass empty. So much for the 'liquid courage'.
"W-well...I suppose I'd describe him as...boisterous? post-battle, I mean. Always eager to celebrate a victorious fight!" (Whilst laughing about the brutal slaughter of his foes...)
"I, myself, was never on the field. But according to my sister; he was a valiant fighter and brilliant strategist!" (And very determined to 'leave no rebel alive'..)
"I cared quite deeply for him." He added, though it was much quieter and something about the way he said it sounded so fond.
Like a fool, avoiding eye contact, or even looking in Claudia's general direction most of the time he spoke, was allowing his mind to wander and reminisce and it seemed almost like he was forgetting that he was supposed to be keeping up an act to feign innocence. From the small, but still obvious smile, to the way his brows furrowed and turned up. And the blush. He looked absolutely smitten.

The man thought carefully of his next words upon the mention of Giles but couldn't help instantly averting eye contact as his gaze seemed to go from somber to...wistful. He prayed his subtly reddening cheeks were not obvious in the dim lighting of the room as his mind wandered to their 'escapades'
"*ahem* u-uh...yes well, Giles always was a bit of a er... 'strange one'. A wonderful drinking partner, very sociable with enough alcohol in his system but *chuckles* has Frederick ever mentioned how he was right after a battle?"
Immediately he regretted asking this question because of COURSE he hadn't! And now Joseph had just obviously saddled himself with informing a woman of how her late husband used to walk through camp covered in blood. Joseph found it charming and attractive...because he had a LOT of problems but this would surely horrify the poor widow. God conversation was so much easier back home.

He exhales quietly and smiles somberly
"I can certainly relate."
*Huffs a laugh then takes another sip of his drink*
"I've certainly found adjusting to be...ehh...easier said than done. Granted, it certainly beats sleeping in a war zone, but I know the struggle."

"that sounds lovely."
He grabs a glass for himself from the cabinet, seeing as she already has her own, and pours himself some of the whiskey
There was a pause while they sipped their drinks
"so have you and your daughter gotten acclimated to life on the farm all right?"

"Oh not at all, Miss! My apologies for the scare though."
His eyes drifted towards the bottle, not judgmentally, but more so curiously. Wondering if there was any wine. If there was anything the man had learned from his time in the army (albeit not as a soldier), it was that alcohol seemed to be the easiest way to bond.
Perhaps, as long as she doesn't know the truth, things wouldn't end up being so awkward

Quietly but cautiously, Joseph entered the kitchen. He had intended to grab a small midnight snack but was now faced with his lover's widow, claudia.
He put on his usual charming smile and strolled up to her
"Isn't it a tad late to be getting drunk, miss Eleison?"

Deepest apologies on the pronouns.
...
I think this "Gothel" woman has the right idea.
wait so in your art with Joseph in it is that pre-war or post-war?? Does that mean he gets the marriage his father was keen on?? Is it a good ending?? Does he suffer-
i mean. it would be entertaining if he suffered.
But also at the same time it'd be nice for him to get a good wife/good ending..
ya mean this?
This is Pre-War Joseph. 110% Daddy's boy.
"Y-yes, father. Whatever you need. Oh! Of course! Not to worry, I'll make sure everything is in order. Rest assured, you don't have to lift a finger for this banquet. I got every single invitation mailed out. Yes, I triple-checked the addresses like always. The decorations are up. I practiced my waltz for 10 hours yesterday just like you asked. Y-yes. I know you shouldn't have to remind me, I-I just got a little distracted. Please forgive me-."
-just as an example.
EDIT; (just realized i totally did not answer this question at all. but i really wanted to rant about this art piece)

The 27 y/o who has been groomed and brainwashed his whole life, clearly does not get the joke and assumes you're 100% agreeing
SEE?? HE GETS IT!!

Initially the man planned to visit the nearest tavern to ask the locals about his sister but, he had a strong hunch Freddie knew Cathy. His best bet was likely to stick with him.
Well we've stayed together...unwillingly for about 2 or 3 months now. It wouldn't be torturous to stay together by choice.
(//OOC- Translation: "You're the first person my age I've opened up to and that genuinely means something to me. Please don't leave me alone.")
Christmas Eve 1776? 1778? 1776? 1778?....uh..um......It's Christmas Eve in Valley Forge! (dates are decidedly irrelevant) and a young man is in the middle of, obviously, deserting. As bundled up as possible, with a bag carrying all of his deemed most important belongings. He sneaks out of his cabin, careful not to wake anyone as the snow crunches beneath his feet. With a small lantern in hand to guide his way. He barely makes it past his own cabin, when he hears another pair of footprints behind him

Joseph scoffed and rolled his eyes but didn't bite back
Feh!
He finally stands up, brushing the snow off himself first, then helps up Frederick. Joseph dramatically flips his hair back then folds his arms.
I suppose you'll be returning to your actual camp now?

His walls went up and he scowled for the briefest moment when Freddie smirked but quickly eased up when he went back to speaking more seriously, allowing the Noble to remain relaxed...mostly he was just too exhausted to start getting huffy. Vulnerability was quite tiresome for him to express...but then again..so was keeping up his defenses
As much as it pains me to say He says jokingly
You have my respect, Kenneth...
..Though I WILL hunt you down if I find out you shared with anyone what I told you today!
He scowls, quickly raising his walls back up. Admittedly, nice while it lasted. But clearly..nothing lasts forever. But it was quite apparent now to the blond that behind his smug bravado..was just a scared, confused and sad young boy.

Both men looked away, a slight pause before Joseph cleared his throat to speak up
I suppose you're right.
He sighed
...I always knew the commoners had it rough. But I always assumed it was merely due to their financial status and nothing more.
(//OOC- Of course he still uses the word "commoner"...baby steps here)
