Mercury in the 8th House - The Taste of Truth Serum 

Hermes was the God of Mercury with exclusive access to Hades in the underworld realm. The power in this combination permits Mercury in the 8th people to unknowingly glide across the borderland of consciousness, but it means the gatekeeper can lock the individual right out of her own head. The Mercury in the 8th mind operates like a psychic spy, covertly ripping apart the layers of everything while revealing just enough to forge deep connections with others. Even if she seems disinterested or distracted, the unconscious is scrutinising information at the speed of x-ray light. She may experience sudden enlightenments or cohesive streams of knowledge that seem to pour from nowhere, but it does come from somewhere. Part of her mind is always operating out of sight and control, waiting for the moment she is evolved enough to understand - and not lose her mind. The experience of ‘losing her mind’ or complete mental control can be quite threatening and evoke a lot of fear. She may even use methods of denial to hide it from herself and retain the only sense of control she has in her mind. Sometimes she is denied access from thoughts, voices, and secrets inside, and she goes in search of something forbidden. But she only founds those same, strange faceless beasts sneering until she sleeps to enter her dreams.  

Mercury in the 8th people have a style of verbal delivery that captures everybody’s attention in some form of hypnosis. Mercury holds the caduceus, and it’s like she waves an invisible wand that uses spelling words to cast magic spells. Her striking perceptiveness can make people think she has eyes in the back of her head, and she is quick to ascertain underlying motives and manipulation. Respect is a given but trust is reserved for those who prove themselves worthy. As a child, she may have frequently found herself in the wrong place at the wrong time overhearing a conversation or monologue that she never should have. It may leave her with the confusing sensation that her whole life is a lie. She is conditioned for this deceiving world, realising trust is one of her greatest defences and power. She may also analyse if her personal experiences are true and authentic, like if her lovers confession of commitment was truth or deception, if her parents were hiding something dark, or if she can even believe her own thoughts. The Mercury in the 8th mind is sensually responsive and carnal, almost capable of being totally visceral in the longing for deep human connections and the nervous stimulation of intimacy. But her trust issues and fear of exposure can also surface the serpents who hiss and savage any mere mortal who tries to gain entrance. Breaking down her walls is a long and often intensely traumatic process. Sharing her innermost thoughts, longings, memories, and desires with another person may involve multiple, complex transformations beforehand. She is trustworthy, but there is always a side that she won’t show - and rarely a person exists who knows enough to ask anyway.
