Behold, a fanart poster!
Okay, so this is inspired by a post from @kinetic-empathy, specifically this post, which suggests the song "Run Boy Run" as a continuation of the Kidnapping saga. There's a couple of additions in this reblog by @claramurphyqueenoffandoms too
Not that I approve of what the song was initially about, but this idea takes the song and gives it its own story, and I am all flipping for it.
[Transcript: Layne in his outfit from the Panic video, looking more torn and beat up, running toward the camera with broken chains dangling from his wrists. Behind him is a dim figure, reaching out to take him with one shadowy claw. The title - Run Boy Run - is written on either side of him.]

A little comic I drew (but never actually finished, sorry) several years back, right after I realized that Melchior in "The Star" was totally based on Bernard. And since that episode is literally made for Epiphany, I figured I'd go ahead and post it!
Also, that album was, like, MASSIVE content with these two, and not just them as them either! The friendship dynamic between them of "I do not like you, but I will help you with this, and okay maybe I like you a little, shut up" carries over into so many episodes. Whether they're being them, or they're playing characters in a radio production, or one of them is literally somebody in the past and/or Whit's program. They are friends even when they're not both them, and I love it.
Transcript (and some expansion based on what I was planning on doing) after the cut:
Panel 1: Eugene (in his Biblical attire) giving a sideways glance to Melchior, who is looking the other way
Panel 2: while Melchior inspects a scroll or other parchment, Eugene gets this look of slightly annoyed determination
Panel 3: Eugene whips out his glasses while Melchior shields his eyes and stares at the sky
Panel 4: Eugene puts on his glasses and peers closely at Melchior, who (still shielding his eyes) looks straight ahead and frowns
Panel 5: (M) *wheeling on the startled Eugene*WHAT DO YOU WANT?!
Panel 6: (E) *looking remorsefully embarrassed (and much too short, sorry) while Melchior folds his arms and scowls* Nothing, Melchior. I-I apologize if I distracted you.
Panel 7: (M) *pointing to his own head and throwing out one arm* "DISTRACTED"? You were staring at me as if the Star itself had sprouted on my forehead! (E) *chuckling as he does, still looking too short* Oh, no, no, perish the thought!
Panel 8: (E) *gesturing in explanation, now the proper height* I was merely attempting to more clearly assess your features, because-- (M) *unimpressed* Because what?
Panel 9: (E) Because... *glances down, now mouthless for some reason* Well...
Panel 10: *looks up with a shrug and a little smile* ...Because you remind me of one of my closest friends.
Panel 11: (M) *closeup, looking (I hope) particularly like Bernard* ...Oh?
From there, I'd planned on having Eugene attempt to explain what he believes the situation to be (with Mr. Whittaker's programming of the Imagination Station), while Melchior is... very confused. But despite Eugene's half-monologue, he's grumblingly friendly and offers to help him mount the camel. Maybe Eugene starts to thank him, but he's like, "ah, no, you can express your thanks by not expressing it." At which Eugene kinda smiles (sounds familiar, huh?). In the last panel, Melchior would yell from offscreen, "And you can show me how those ocular devices work!" or something like that.
It's kinda funny, honestly. A little different than how I'd write it nowadays but I had a bunch of that kind of thing in my church bulletin doodles, back in the day.

How To Get Good At Art:
Figure out what you're scared to draw.
Draw it.
I'm 100% serious. Are you scared to draw hands? Fill pages of sketchbooks with hands. Scared to draw faces? Draw so, so many faces. Scared to draw animals? Draw animals. Scared to use colors. Use colors. Scared to shade? Start shading.
A lot of people think you need innate talent to be good at drawing, but the only talent it takes is the ability to draw what you're scared of. Art is a learned skill, and the more you practice at it, the more capable you'll become. If something is scary to draw, it's because you haven't practiced at it. You've never done it before, (or you've barely done it, or you've done it once and saw how your first steps faltered and were terrified to take the next one,) so of course it's scary. Draw it anyways. Keep drawing it. Don't stop until you're not scared, until you're so familiar with it you don't want to stop anymore anyways.
Figure out what you're scared to draw, and draw it until it doesn't scare you anymore.

Four Loves Challenge: Kate Crackernuts (Storge)
So I was really excited about the Four Loves Challenge, put on by @inklings-challenge, but what with life and sickness and new projects collaring me in a dark alley and dragging me away, I didn't have time to finish the project I was hoping for. I'm still hoping to complete and post it at some point, though.
BUT, I still wanted to do something, so I decided to make a bit of art. In the past week or so, I found this really interesting fairy tale. Since it had such a strong familial element, I decided to pick that!
The story is "Kate Crackernuts", an old Scottish story, and it's about two sisters named Kate and Anne. When the jealous queen enchants Anne's head into a sheep, the sisters go out to seek their fortunes together. They find a castle where two brothers live, and one of them is very sick (whoever watches over him at night vanishes). Kate offers to stand watch, and discovers that he is hypnotized by the fairies into riding out and dancing all night in their rounds. So she has to find a way to cure both him and her sister (it ends up involving a fairy baby and, you guessed it, some nuts).
This one really caught my eye. I loved the fact that it had so much emphasis on these sibling relationships - that would be a huge focus in a retelling for me, deepening those even further, and even contrasting them. Plus, the fact that it's a fairy baby that holds the solution could potentially play into more themes of family.
Well, I hope y'all like it! I wish I could've done some writing, but I'm pretty happy with this moodboard anyway. :)

if you’re a gifmaker, you need to read this
staff has announced that on may 15, they’re forcing everyone to switch to the new beta post editor. this is very, very bad for gifs. @saintalicent made a post detailing the difference between the old and new post editors, but basically the new post editor shoves gifs into a text post and slightly resizes them, lowering the quality of the gifs.
gifmakers are the backbone of this website, and staff needs to be reminded of this. if you’re a gifmaker, please send polite feedback to staff explaining that you don’t want the quality of your gifs to be reduced and that this will negatively affect your experience on this website.
we got them to back off on the gif to mp4 thing last year, and we need them to back off on this. please reblog for visibility.

April 17, 2022. Bulletin sketch of Naphtali running (his hat has gone flying behind him).
The sermon today was called "Running in the Graveyard", and that sounded very fitting to me.
I mean, Naphtali lives in the setting of a horror story, full of dread and dead men. And you'd expect a person to be more serious.
Yet he's perfectly happy. Some days, he'll just run all out like children do, everywhere he goes, just for the joy of it. He's not afraid in the least.
Happy Easter!

Know what I’m salty about?
In all my art classes, I was never taught HOW to use the various tools of art.
Like yes, form, and shape and space and color theory and figure drawing is important, but so is KNOWING what different tools do.
I’m 29 and I JUST learned this past month that India Ink is fucking waterproof when it dries. Why is this important? Because I can line something in India Ink and then go over it with watercolors. And that has CHANGED the ENTIRE way I art and the ease I can create with.
tldr: Art Teachers: teach your students what different tools do. PLEASE.
