Arthur flinched at Alfred's tone. "I-I don't know... I wasn't paying attention. I think she was blond..." He really had nothing against the nurse. He knows it's not easy working in a hospital, especially not in this part of it. He shook his head. "No, don't be harsh on her. I really didn't mind too much." Despite being hungry. "Yes, I do like them. Thank you." He offered a small smile and put the books aside.
"Ah but you don't have--" Alfred left before Arthur had a chance to stop him. He would've been fine with anything... "Ah..." He mumbled and picked up one of the books Alfred got him. In the 20 minutes, he has managed to read a good part of the book, smiling as he read. For him, it felt like ages since he last read a book. "Ah... welcome back." He greeted politely.
"Thank you." He chuckled and looked down. "It smells wonderful." He nodded and took a spoon, starting to calmly eat for now. "It's perfect, thank you." How long has it been since he;s last eaten food anyway? At least a week. He hummed happily as he swallowed the hot liquid. It was soothing. He ate up in about 10 minutes, leaning back down on the bed.
"Thank you so much, Alfred. But... aren't you overworking yourself? Maybe you should go home and rest." He frowned a bit, folding his hands over his chest neatly. "I'm just suggesting though. You've been nothing but kind to me, and I am sure to all your other patients too. You deserve a break." Â

Alfredâs blood boiled. âdo you know what she looked like?i told them soup and a sandwich. I swear if it was Allison again, sheâs done.â He huffed before he smiled at him and nodded. âWell, Iâm glad you like them. I wanted you to be able to keep yourself busy.âÂ
"thereâs a soup place down the street. Iâll get you something good. Iâll be right back" he said as he quickly left, telling the nurses heâd be right back. After 20 minutes Alfred was runiing back to Arthurâs room, soup warm and he placed it into a bowl. He beamed at the Brit.Â
"For a Mr. Kirkland!" He grinned playfully as he moved the table over to Arthur, and placed the soup down. "I hope this is okay.

Arthur was more than happy to hear that familiar voice again. He looked up, finally feeling himself light up. "Alfred." He said rather gently and greeted him. "Yes... I... I can't eat it." He admitted. "It hurts when I swallow." He murmured.
"Oh my..." He took the books, looking though them and nodding at Alfred's choice. "Thank you so much, Alfred." Now he had something to do, at least. "I... porridge or something easy to swallow would be good." He said with a grateful smile. He was still worried for Alfred. Wasn't it time for him to go home?
But than again, Arthur was not in any position to comment or to say anything at that moment, he could only worry about the only person who's kind to him. "I'm not really that much for fast food, I must admit."Â

Alfred frowned as he walked into the room. âis this what they gave you for lunchâ He asked looking at the nasty uneaten food. âhave you ate anything at all?â He asked Arthur as he handed him the books he brought and hte treats.Â
He couldnât stand when his staff acted like this it gave the hospital a bad name and honestl it wasnât worth anything good. âwhat do you like? food wise. Iâll gt you something. Thereâs some fast food places aroound you tell me what you want.â

Arthur frowned a bit when the nurse came. Guess he wasn't getting the promised sandwich. He didn't care much for the food... It was just a little bit disappointing. Arthur struggled a bit with reaching the table. A sharp pain ran though his torso at many times, but he managed to pull it closer. He grumbled under his breath, cursing the nurse and her carelessness.Â
Arthur spent the whole afternoon watching television. He sighed to himself every few minutes for there was nothing interesting. Finally, after an hour or two of channel surfing, he finally found an interesting movie. He started watching it, his eyes glued to the screen, but he was not paying too much attention. He would much rather read a book.
His thoughts sometimes traveled to Alfred. It's not like Arthur really had an opinion of him yet, but there was this feeling of wanting to see the man again, even just to say good night and wish him to rest well. He sighed again. It was so not because Alfred was the most handsome man he's met yet. Or he remembers meeting...Â

He snorted. âItâs my job. â He waved and left. After Arthurâs doctor came in another nurse brougt him food. It was cold and didnât look too good. âHere Mr. Kirkland. Sorry for the wait. â She said before she placed it on the table and left. The table was a bit far and would make Arthur have to reach for it.Â
Alfred took his break, going to get a coffee from the lunch room. He headed to the book store and tried to look for something Arthur could read. The poor guy had nothing to keep him busy. He found some cross word puzzles and some books that sounded good. He paid for them, along with sme sweets that Arthur should have no trouble eating.
Alfred  had to tell himself that he would have done it to any of the patient he had not just because ARthur was cute. He headed to arthurâs room and knocked on the door.

Arthur nodded. "Thank you." He was starting to feel bad. It was Alfred's job to take care of him, but at the same time, Arthur felt bad for giving the man even more work than he already had. He would do it himself... if only he wasn't practically chained to that bed.Â
"Ah.." But how could Arthur not worry? Sure, he didn't know Alfred at all, and they've just met a couple of minutes ago, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't feel at least a little bit worried for him. Maybe he even pitied the man... "I do hope you get some rest when you get off your shift." The Brit said in the hopes of cheering the other up, at least a little bit. "Thank you, once again, you're too kind."
As soon as Alfred felt, the doctor came in. He wasn't as nice as Alfred was, and obviously way more tired than the nurse. He asked Arthur all kinds of questions to some of which Arthur had no answer. He took some of his blood, took a look at the stitches on his forehead and measured his temperature. It all took about 30 minutes before the doctor left, leaving Arthur alone and bored.
The young man sighed. Might as well watch some mindless television....Â

Alfred smiled and nodded. âIâll make sure that they bring you a nice one then. â He offered and finished with his paper work. He was glad that Arthur seemed to be okay, besides forgetting a few things. Once the doctor was in though, heâd be able to check him out.Â
His smile fell and he chuckled. âcan you tell? Iâm sleepy, Iâm covering someones shift, Iâve been working since 7 last night. I get out in a few hours, donât you worry about me. you gotta worry about getting better firstâ He said, patting his shoulder. âlet me go do the rest of my rounds. If you donât have your food by then Iâll get it from the kitchen.â

Arthur nodded. "I am not too hungry... a sandwich is enough I think." He hummed and looked at Alfred. The bloke seemed nice enough. At least he appeared to be, taking so good care of a patient. He must work hard though. Ah... Arthur forgot if he even had a job. He gave it a bit of thought. He probably did...
Arthur let out a small sigh. He was probably stuck in the same position for days now. He smiled at Alfred gratefully and relaxed further into the soft pillows and not-too-comfortable bed. "Ah... I don't want to be a bother, you must be really busy." He frowned a bit. "You do seem tired... if I may notice." He knew it wasn't the best idea to say stuff like that to people, but he couldn't help but notice. Alfred seemed like he was about to faint.Â

Alfred smiled. âwell donât hurt yourself let it come back to you. youâl get there. â He made sure Arthur could eat, and when he saw he could he ordered a nurse to put in a food order for him. âsorry soup and sandwiches are available now. you missed lunch by a few hours. â
He brought Artur more pillows noticing the pained look on his face when he sat back. He carefully placed one under his leg and and behind the manâs back. âI can look for some books. but I dun know if I can find any. If not thereâs a gift shop downstairs. Iâll pick you up one. â He smiled. âWe tried calling family, they said they couldnât comeâ He said  frowning a bit. âbut if you need company, weâre really nice.Iâll make sure to pop in so youâre not too lonely. âÂ

The blond nodded. "I won't." He murmured and shook his head. "I don't remember much..." He was aware that he's in a hospital.... he inwardly rolled his eyes at the details. "Alright, Alfred." He said the name, just to see how it'll roll off his tongue. So this Alfred was his nurse. The man looked friendly enough, at least he didn't get one of those grumpy nurses...
His eyes widened. 6 days?! But.. that's... He tried to not think about anything, for he felt his headache slowly becoming worse as the thoughts started flowing though his mind. "T-That would ne alright, yes... It is a bit uncomfortable... my back hurts." He complained and watched Alfred write stuff down. Probably notes....
"Ah..." So his name's Arthur. He smiled a bit. He liked his own name at least, that's good. "Alright, thank you." He offered a small smile. "Ah, I assume that's true... I still feel a bit hazy." He confessed and relaxed a bit. So he at least knew mostly everything about himself now. That's a cheer up. "Thank you but... I don't like watching TV--Is there maybe some books I could read later on? When I'll feel up to it?"Â
He simply nodded at the other instructions. He was sure he'll need Alfred quite a bit. He did feel weak... "Yes, of course." He murmured and let his head rest against the pillow. His back was still hurting... he wanted to ask to have the position changed, however, he was a little bit too proud of himself to ask for help.Â

Alfred patted his shoulder. âhey, donât push yourself. Itâs gonna be a bit hazy, youâve been out. You hit your head pretty hard, alright? youâre safe here though, youâre in a hospital. The ICU. Iâm Alfred. Iâm your nurse for my shifts until you get tired of us and better. âhe smiled as he nodded.Â
"you got those questions right, but its not the 5th itâs the 11th. youâve been out cold. Iâm glad you finally woke up. We can get some of these tubes and wires out of you. you can talk well, Iâm going to get you applesause to make sure you can eat, then we should be able to bring you real food like I said.
Relax, itâs Arthur. Arthur kirkland. Once you wake up more Iâm sure itâll all come back to you. A concussion was nearly unavoidable. so donât worry.â Alfred laughed loudly. âThought so. Iâll get you something. the remote for the bed and tv work like this. Itâs on the bed so you never lose it. If you need anything from me, ou press this big red button and Iâll come fast. The doctor should be in any moment to check on you. He normally makes rounds every day. â Alfred gave Arthur a dose of medicine to help with the pain

He watched the man walk around his room for a while. Soon enough, though, he realised that the man was talking. Wait-- Mr. Kirkland? So his last name was Kikrland, right? That was an odd name... He frowned a bit. He didn't get picked on as a kid for his name... right?
"Ah..." He remembered he could speak, but nodded mostly at the questions before going to answer them, "Hm.. the year..." He tried to remmeber. 2010? 2011? He knitted his brows. No,,, That's not it. He took in a deep breath. His lungs felt like they were burning, but he brushed it off easily.
"2014." He murmured, sure that he has gotten the year right. But somehow, he felt like the date will be a problem. "Um... It's January, Um... 5th?" He asked more than said. "I don't know my name. I've just heard my surname from you." He frowned.Â
He wanted to know his name now, badly. He tried to remember. Kirkland... what would fit with Kirkland... He knitted his brows and stopped thinking before he got an even worse headache. "Painkillers would be lovely." He sighed. Well, that will have to wait.Â
Hospital AU

Alfred was worried for the man, honestly truely worried. He had hit his head so hard on the wheel, he needed stitches across his forehead and cheek. His ankle was fractured in 3 different places, a wrist in a cast, shoulder was pushed out of place, and a rib cracked.Â
They had done all they could before they allowed him to rest alone. He had been sleeping for nearly a week now. Alfred was hoping the poor man would wake soon, Arthur. That was his patience name, his family didnât come, and Alfred felt sad for the man. To be in America and his family not able to travel when Arthur needed him the most.Â
Alfred came into his room checking his vitals and writting it down on his clip board. He smiled widely when he noticed Arthur moving. âMr. Kirkland! Glad to see you finally awake. How are you feeling? I can get you more pain pills if you need them. â He offered as he plaed his clipboard down before he started to get gloves. âI need to check a few things and take blood. Once I get some tests we can get you some food too. Do you know the year? your name? How about the date? I just wanna make sure youâre head is alright. â He said as he looked at Arthur.

It all happened so fast. It was all a blur too. All the colours seemed to clash into one big blur of light and dark colours, almost blinding him. However, it all passed so quickly, and before he knew it, he was out. Darkness surrounded him, his senses were low and his hearing distant, to the point where even the people shouting around him to hang in there were all but a quiet buzz.
The last thing remembered were white walls and people rushing all around him, voices heâs never heard before talking about stuff he canât figure out. The lights were too bright, so he shut his eyes again, hoping to dull the throbbing pain in his temples. He felt so... numb, not able to move his fingers or hand. It was all too much, the light, the people, the pain, the numbness of both his emotions and body... Soon enough, darkness surrounded him again.
Waking up in unfamiliar surroundings, with senses high and on alert was hard enough. Waking up and not remembering where he was, how he got there, or why he was there in the first place was a whole other story. Panicked, he sat up, his forest green eyes as wide as they can be while he looked around the plain white room he was in.
A beeping sound could be heard next to him. Some kind of tubes and wires were connected to him too. He looked around. âWhââ Came out as almost a whisper. He was in a hospital. It was all too obvious. He was hooked up to all kinds of machines and who-knows-what. He didnât like it one bit. Why was he there? Why did his head feel so light and hazy, and why did he want to go back to sleep despite just waking up?
He didnât have the answers to any of those questions.
However, he knew who might have. He watched as, who seemed to be a nurse, walked into the room, clipboard in hand. The nurse was a man, a tall one too. Arthur looked up at him, confused, worried, and as if asking him all the questions heâs asked himself before. He wanted to be let out, he needed air! He couldnât breathe...
However, there seemed to be one more question lingering in the back of his head. âWho am I?â He asked himself, but probably loud enough for the other blond person in the room to hear him.
He knew a lot of things. He knew he had a brother and a mother and father, who all loved him. He knew his favourite was tea and he knew his favourite tea was Earl Grey. He knew he loved cats and that he feared dogs and also that he secretly loved playing video games... But... what was his name? How old was he? He knew he was at least over 20. But that didnât explain anything. When was his birthday? What was his sign? Questions such as those were what he wanted to know the answer to.
Somehow, it seemed like the nurse in his room right now knew the answers. He was snapped out of his thoughts when the nurse started to talk to him.Â
Hospital AU
Alfred worked every day expect Wednesdays and Sundays. It was a tough scheduled but Alfred enjoyed his job, so he didnât mind putting in the long hours. He enjoyed helping people, and his job was an easy one. He made sure people stayed alive while in ICU. It was horrible on some days when he knew a person wasnât going to make it that was the worst.Â
he was just about to head to lunch when he was called back. A blonde haired man was rushed here after a car crash. Alfred and the doctors worked quickly to patch him up and keep him alive.

Arthur really felt sorry for the American. He had never thought that he would feel that bad because of a bit of alcohol. But he won't comment on it now, since it seemed like Alfred had enough of everything already. Instead, Arthur crawled into bed with him, nuzzling his chest and wrapping his arms around his torso, rubbing his back and trying to calm his stomach and head in at any way he can. "I know, Alfred." He whispered and kissed his collarbone. "Go to sleep, you'll feel better, I'm sure." He closed his eyes, trying to fall asleep as well.
-
Alfred let Arthur walk him to bed. He groaned loudly as he laid down and Arthur left. He let out soft whimpers, waiting for Arthur to come back. Alfred felt like the Brit was taking forever to come back. Finally the Brit came back. Alfred waited for him to get into bed and nuzzled up into him. âI dun feel good ArthurâŚâ He said leaning against him mroe.

Arthur frowned a bit and patted Alfred's back. "Poor baby. Let's go to bed now, hm?" He helped him up and walked with him to his bedroom. "Here we go." He said and made him lie down on the bed. "I'll be back in a while, you get comfortable." He said gently and went to the bathroom to brush his teeth and get ready for bed, returning soon after.Â
-
Alfred groaned and leaned into his  touch. âI am. I just had too many. four was too much for meâ he drunk the water. âI wanna lay downâ he said as he moved away from the toilet and into Arthur. He nuzzled into his neck.

Arthur entered the bathroom shortly after with a glass of water. "Poor thing." He said softly and sat down on the floor next to him, patting his back soothingly. "Here, have some water." He handed him the cup, still rubbing his back. "You're not really made for drinking, are you?"Â
-
Alfred groaned and rushed to the bathroom. He threw up a bit into the toilet. He really shoudlnât have dank so much. He sighed as he leaned against the toilet.

Arthur heard his phone vibrating on the coffee table. God, he hated the thing. It's almost like it's cursed. Either no one ever calls or texts him or he's so busy with calls and texts that he ignores them all. Right now, though, he was confused.Â
He unlocked his phone. 'Elise Zwingli' send you a message. Arthur stared at his phone blankly for a while. He looked out his window. At this hour? At this moment before this 'special and big' event will happen? He sighed to himself but started swiftly typing out his reply.Â
I am. Drowning in my own self-pity and loneliness. Care to come, hm? I don't mind, the door'll be unlocked. Message sent. He threw his phone beside himself on the couch and lazily stood up. He looked around. The place looked good enough for visitors... not perfect, but good enough.Â
As promised, Arthur went over to the door and unlocked it. He really didn't care if somebody else came into his flat now and robbed him or something. He really couldn't care less. To add to his 'I don't give a flying fuck' mood, he had nothing that could possibly be worth stealing anyway. Maybe his prized collection of spells and chants, but nobody believed in magic anyway, so like that'll happen.Â
He went back over to his couch, sitting down and waiting for Elise. He really had nothing better to do. However, he couldn't help but wonder why the girl wanted to suddenly come over. Doesn't she have her brother to be with? He wasn't even sure if he cared, company does sound good.Â

Arthur had to smirk at his reactions. They're too funny. "It's alright, love, go to the toilet and I'll prepare you something for the pain." He said gently while rubbing Alfred's back. "Now go if you need to, hm? We'll go to bed soon anyway." He smiled and went to prepare a glass of water and some pain killers.Â

Alfred felt a little bit tipsy. He felt horribly sick on the way home and then once they got to Arthurâs house. He just groaned. âI dunno my stomach I think I gotta puke. âHe said

New Year (Open)
Arthur sighed to himself. Was he really this pathetic? Itâs almost New Year, in fact, around an hour until. He is alone at home, sitting in front of his TV. Heâs watching some stupid Christmas movie. He hates those. Whatâs the point of Christmas movies? Itâs not like sad and lonely people like him had anyone to spend it with, so why rub it into their noses like; âHa ha, look at this wanker, heâs got no one to spend Christmas with!â And why air such movies on New Year! Whatâs that all about? Do they think that anyone cares about it still? Itâs at least 6 or so days past it, so why? Arthur sighed deeply. He could rant about it all day and night, but at the moment, he just couldnât care less. He was lonely, not even in the mood to drink... He had a bottle of champagne ready, some firecrackers and other items, which could promise him a good time, come midnight, but he didnât feel like it.
On the other hand, perhaps, he didnât want to. It was a mystery even to even him. Nevertheless, truth be told, he wanted to. He wanted to go out, at least to a bar or somewhere where he wouldnât be alone. Maybe the city, to see all the other people celebrate... really, anywhere, but he couldnât bring himself to. He, in some ways, really couldnât care less.
His year was bad enough; he didnât have a reason to celebrate the up and coming one. He saw nothing exciting about it. All this negativity started annoying him and he switched from the annoying Christmas movie, just in time to see the news. Nothing special was going on either. Apparently, there were many people waiting in the cities centre, some already doing who-knows-what nonsense, while others simply sat and waited.
Arthur would go out and spend his time with his family. If it wouldnât be for them all having other plans. No one has time for him, and they even wanted to make him baby sit for the night while some of their family friends went out with them. Why would they do something like that to their own family member? Arthur had no clue and he couldnât care less even if he tried.
However, company did sound good. It did sound nice to have someone around and someone to shake their hand and say âHappy New Yearâ in person. Guess he will have to stick with text messages and social networks. Why he even had those, too, was weird. However, he did.Â
