Once upon a time, there was a kingdom in a far away land called Liberosia. The king of that castle was named Rikard. He had four children, three boys and one girl. There names were Erik, Leath, Bess, and Arin. One day, King Rikard got very sick. He did not live through the night. The next day, Erik became king. He ruled for a week before he was brutally murdered by Leath, who then became king. Leath ruled his kingdom cruelly, and it was not long before he too was murdered. Since Bess was a girl, the kingdom decided that Arin would become king. But Arin was afraid. He did not want to be king, so that night, he ran away. Bess then claimed the throne. She ruled her kingdom well and justly. Everyone loved her. Meanwhile, Arin became an apprentice to a blacksmith. He was not so happy. He wandered tirelessly looking to be an apprentice for someone else. Eventually, he decided to serve a shepherd. Arin loved caring for the sheep, and they loved being cared for. Back at the castle, Bess had found a husband. His name was Mort. They four children. Their names were Shora and Shona, Rikard, and Arin.

CHAPTER TWO

“Wake up!” The salamander felt a cold hand touch her arm. “Wh-what…?” She was still waking up from her short-lived hibernation. “I said wake up!” The voice repeated. “Huh?” The salamander blinked, but she still couldn’t see anything. She shut her eyes, waited a second, and opened them. She could see again! Tge salamander saw another salamander, but he was blue, not red. Who was this strange creature? Two other blue salamanders stood behind him. “Wh-who are you?” She stuttered numbly: She was still recovering from her hibernation. “I was about ask you the same question.” Said the blue salamander. “I don’t have a name,” She looked at her feet and saw that they were tied together with a blade of grass. “Where did they get the blade of grass?” I wondered. I’d never seen grass before…I had no idea how I knew what it was.

CHAPTER ONE

She was hungry. The last thing the little salamander had eaten was a small mite that crawled into the crevace that was her home. Also, she was tired. Very tired. The salamander assumed it was the cold. If she hadn’t been so hungry, she would probably fall into deep hibernation immediately. “Well,” the salamander thought, “I’m not going to find any food by hiding in a crack in the ice.” She crawled out of her hole and began hunting for anything that could sustain her hunger. The only thing she found was another small mite, she ate it. It wasn’t particularly filling, but the salamander wasn’t hungry anymore. Suddenly, she began to feel sleepy. Her heartbeat slowed down. “No not now,” she thought, “not here…”

Then, the salamander fell asleep.

PROLOGUE

Fire and Ice were everywhere. A little Fire Salamander dodged and ducked to avoid getting burned or frozen. She was so busy dodging she wasn’t paying attention to where she was going. Blindly, she ran off the cliff…
