🎀 La Mamounia’s name derives from the #gardens, known three centuries ago as “Arset el Mamoun,” named for Prince Moulay Mamoun, son of Sultan Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah, ruler of #Marrakech in the 18th century. For 80 years, #LaMamounia has emphasized the great traditions of Moroccan hospitality. A classic example of the great age of grand hotels of the 1930’s, a unique blend of #Art Deco and #Moorish design. 🎀 (at La Mamounia)

🎀 The #mausoleum comprises the interments of about sixty members of the #SaadiDynasty that originated in the valley of the #DraaRiver. Among the #graves are those of Ahmad al-Mansur and his family. The building is composed of three rooms. The most #famous is the room with the twelve columns. This room contains the grave of the son of the sultan's son, #Ahmad al-Mansur. The stele is in finely worked cedar wood and stucco work. The monuments are made of Italian #Carrara marble. 🎀 (at Tombeaux des Saadiens)

🎀 A #marocaine and her child across a #medina {A medina quarter (Arabic: المدينة القديمة‎‎ al-madīnah al-qadīmah "the #old #city") is a distinct #city section found in many #North #African cities. The medina is typically walled, with many narrow and #maze-like streets. The word "medina" (Arabic: مدينة‎‎ madīnah) itself simply means "city" or "town" in modern-day #Arabic. } 🎀 (at Medina, Marrakech)

🎀 #Jemaa el-Fnaa, Djema el-Fna or Djemaa el-Fnaa) is a square and market place in Marrakesh's #medina quarter (old city). It remains the main square of #Marrakesh, used by #locals and #tourists. •••Trivia••• • The square was featured in the Alfred Hitchcock movie The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956). • An interesting account of the place in the 1970s can be seen in Esther Freud's novel Hideous Kinky. • Jimmy Page and Robert Plant recorded some songs and their DVD "No Quarter - Unledded" here. • #JuanGoytisolo lives in Marrakesh and has had an important role in the categorization of Jamaa el Fna as one of the #Masterpieces of the #Oral and #Intangible #Heritage of #Humanity •The square was featured as a photo shoot setting in the TV reality series #America's #NextTopModelCycle16. 🎀 I'm dead tired hoomans, your butt's too heavy! 🐪 #Camels are mammals with long legs, a big-lipped snout and a humped back. There are two types of camels: #dromedary camels, which have one hump, and #Bactrian camels, which have two humps. Camels' humps consist of stored fat, which they can metabolize when food and water is scarce. The dromedary camel, also called an Arabian camel, can be found in North Africa and the Middle East. The Bactrian camel lives in Central Asia. No matter the type, camels are usually found in the desert, prairie or steppe. Though many people think that camels only live in hot climates, they do well in temperature ranges from 20 degrees F (minus 29 degrees C) to 120 degrees F (49 degrees C). 🎀 (at Merzouga - Sahara Desert)

🎀 Sahara Desert: Due to lack of cloud cover and very low humidity, the desert usually features high diurnal temperature variations between days and nights. However, it is a myth that the nights are cold after extremely hot days in the Sahara. The average diurnal temperature range is typically between 13 °C (55.4 °F) and 20 °C (68 °F). 🎀 Over 80 million years ago, the first phase of #AtlasMountain formation began. This stage consisted of a series of continental collisions between #African and #Eurasian plates. The collisions forced layers of #limestone and #sandstone up from the earth, effectively forming the first level of the mountain range. In the section of the Atlas Range termed the High Atlas, the #continental collisions resulted in extremely high outcroppings of stone. In other areas, such as the Anti-Atlas, only small outcroppings resulted. Source: #newworldencyclopedia 🎀 (at Atlas Mountains)
