some tips for recovering abusers, from personal experience.
don’t seek to become 100% non-abusive. be self-conscious instead. thinking that you’ve completely recovered is more likely to make you relapse.
make alterations in your environment to help yourself break out of your usual mindset. from physical, to social, to mental: do your best to improve your environment on every level, and your mind will follow.
be careful when looking into reasons behind your abusive tendencies, contributing factors, and so on. the line between explaining something and making excuses is very thin, especially in this case.
in addition to the previous point: your attitude towards finding the reasons behind your abusive tendencies should be “to find and disarm”. don’t just study yourself, be proactive in your approach.
learning healthy (!) self-control methods is a long way to go, but you can start trying to keep yourself stable anytime. do that, and never stop from that point. just keep going and you’ll get there.
abusive behavior is not an illness. it’s a sign of a deep lying flaw in your current mindset. getting rid of it will likely require you to outsmart yourself a bunch of times.
an abuser’s outlook on the world and the people in it is superficial, primitive, and faulty. it does not portray the reality correctly, and is unimpressive to say the least. you deserve to be better than that. you, as a person, have much more to offer than that.
people can and DO change. changing is actually a very common thing, and the only people who don’t see that are the ones who got stuck on their way to self-improvement. there is no actual reason for you to doubt your ability to grow.
(i’ll be very thankful if non-abusive people reblog this to spread the word, by the way. being a recovering (or not) abuser is something people don’t normally want to discuss openly, but it so needs to be addressed.)

What really annoys me in all this discussion about the Amazon that has started recently is that a lot of people engaging in it - gringos and brazilians/other south-americans who don't live in the region - are acting as that forest is just a bunch of trees. It isn't just this, it's much more. There are people living in there, you understand? Indigenous people of various cultures, some of them not even contacted yet. The ribeirinhos, a typical population of the Amazon. Important towns such as Manaus are located in the Amazon, and thousands of people live in there. All of them are facing the consequences of these events right now. The Amazon means a lot to their lives and culture. And you must remember that the land of the forest is theirs by right before you enter this conversation.
