"Oh! Uh-" Fethry was going to apologize for bumping into him, but instead lifts three fingers to try and keep track of all those questions. Three isn't a lot, but Fethry is liable to trail off and loose track if he doesn't.

"Third question first. You probably smell it, because I have a bag I got down by the docks when I was coming into town. And I've been munching on them." Indeed he had a piece in his mouth as he spoke.

"First question second. I'm Fethry. Though just a name doesn't really tell you a lot about a person, but for your third- second? question, I live here, well lived here I guess. I haven't really lived here in years. But I figured grandma wouldn’t mind me spending a few days..."

Maybe not so much of God willing as Aziraphale willing, he thinks to himself as a hand goes to press into the ground. He’d hate for all this man’s hard work to go to no use, so he just gives the seeds a bit of encouragement, that’s all. Plus, there were many wonderful things you could make with apples (apple pie being his favorite) and he couldn’t wait to see the trees in later years.

“Well, my — colleague was doing a small favor for me.” He explains, catching himself before saying a word he wasn’t comfortable with yet. “I decided to meet him halfway on his way back.”

"Sounds like a good friend." Johnny had completely missed the stranger's hesitation.

First Time interaction starters: hospital edition

Because some of the people who have had the most impact on me were folks I met at the hospital. Contains different hospital settings (ER, inpatient stay, psych ward)

“I heard the nurses say that nobody had come to see you yet, I figured you might have been lonely.”

“Who are you and why are you in my room?”

“Hi, I’m a friend of ____’s. They couldn’t come visit so I went instead. Here - they wanted me to give you this.”

“You’re not who I’m looking for! Where is ____?”

“Hi, I’m in the next room over…Do you think you could help me with something?”

“Stop coughing on me, I’m only here for a broken finger and I don’t wanna get sick!”

“Here, you can have my seat.”

“You look freaked out, I remember I used to be so scared of doctors as a kid. You’ll be fine don’t worry.”

“Where’s your mom/dad? Do they know what happened to you?”

“Hey, I’m here to perform for you guys and I wanted to double check if you wanted to come out and listen.”

“You’re not dying are you? Oh god please don’t die sitting next to me.“

“You must be the new patient, just stick with me and you’ll be fine.”

“Did they diagnose you with anything? I’ve got _____.”

“I’m sure your family will be here soon.”

“Do you want me to stay with you until someone shows up?”

“Looks like we’re gonna be roommates, please tell me you don’t snore.”

“Hospital food am I right? Haha….okay but are you gonna finish that?”

“Why aren’t you eating? The food isn’t that bad is it?”

“I swear if they bring in another preacher to tell me god is going to cure my depression I’m going to scream.”

“Do you want more pillows and blankets? I’m on the nurse’s good side, I can get you some.

“I am absolutely certain I don’t need you for this. I can reach the top shelf without assistance, and I can certainly carry that box down without assistance. If I need you, I will call for you, Farthing.”

Gyro barely even looked at the duck as he scaled the ladder, eyes locked on what looked like a particularly heavy box of parts. Making a shooing motion with his hand, he added, “Why don’t you go… pick up coffee or something. I take it black, two spoons of sugar.”

Fethry doesn’t react to being addressed with the wrong name. It lets it slide like water off a ducks back and instead focuses on what is, to him, the more pressing issue. 

“But ladder saftey regulations state that you’re supposed to keep three points of contact! Either two hands and a foot or two feet and a hand- though I suppose a tail could count as a third point of contact if it’s prehensile.”

Fethry has stationed himself at the bottom of the ladder to hold it steady for Gyro. Another safety tip Fethry read in a book somewhere.

Gladstone gave his cousin a tiny nudge back, then turns his attention back to the sky. He tries not to zone out while staring up at the clouds, that’d be awfully rude towards Fethry.

“Bicycle - baHAHAHA!” Then Gladstone genuine laughs. A laugh that isn’t mean spirited in anyway or form, which is rare coming from the gander. It trails off into a fit of giggles before the takes a deep breath. Okay, okay, maybe he can stop speaking in riddles for one moment.

“If you can find somethin’ for me ta do that my luck wouldn’t completely take over, Ah would LOVE to see it. Honest, I would.”

That is the trick, isn’t it. To find something that luck has no hand in. Art is the first thing to come to mind.

Drawing is much less about natural skill than most think. It’s a lot of hard work.. But Gladstone doesn’t really like hard work? So what’s like drawing, but not.

“.. Paintin’ with darts. There’s probably some luck involved with actually hittin’ the balloons filled with paint. But there’s no right or wrong. Just a mess of colors… Luck might make it so some snooty rich person wants to buy it, but nothin’ says you have to let them have it. If it’s about having fun an’ spendin’ time together then the money shouldn’t matter.”
