Different Types of Security Cameras Available in the Current Marketplace
Here’s a list of the different types of cameras available in the market and some of the key features of each one for perfect installations. Beyond this list, there are more cameras to opt for. Selecting a camera depends on its application; for example, whether you will install the system in the front door, for reading the license-plate of different vehicles, in the elevator, etc. Cameras also differ in terms of features such as tamper-proof, weatherproof, and more.

Bullet CCTV Cameras
A bullet camera also known as lipstick or cylinder camera has a typically slim size and shape. This kind of cameras can be either wall mounted or ceiling-mounted. They are specifically designed for indoor use, but can also be used for some outdoor applications. CCTV bullet security cameras are quite cost effective and provide first-class performance for a variety of applications. These days, many of these cameras are weatherproof for optimal outdoor use. Also, bullet cameras come with day/night vision capabilities, with higher resolution images even in low light areas. They cannot be tilted or zoomed but remain fixed in a particular position.
Dome
Dome security cameras are typically used for indoor video surveillance. These cameras are named dome because of the dome shaped casing which make them discreet. These systems are mainly used in retail shops to keep the visitors aware a camera is always watching them wherever they go.
CCTV Dome cameras
are of many types, including day/night, IR infrared and simple color specific models. These cameras offer mounting flexibility; as such you can fit them to the ceiling or make 3-axis gimbal adjustments as you want. There are also mini dome cameras available in the market.
Covert/Desktop/Board Cameras
Desktop cameras are ideal for use with a desktop computer for doing Skype and other low-resolution over the phone meetings.
Discreet Cameras
These are mainly tiny sized cameras for discreet observation and transferability in multiple locations. Usually, a discreet camera can transmit images to up to 100 meters.
Infrared/Night Vision
The night-vision capability enables you to see people and movements in low or no light areas. These cameras use IR LED technology to illuminate smaller or larger areas after sunset. Infrared cameras also come with fixed, Varifocal and even motorized zoom lenses.
Outdoor
Outdoor cameras must have a weatherproof casing along with moisture, insects, and dust resistance feature. Outdoor cameras also need to be vandal-proof especially if they are going to be used in conflict prone areas where burglars will try to destroy any video recordings.
Day/Night
Day/night models give you close up of images in varying light conditions – direct sunlight, cloudy days, 24/7. They are ideal for outdoor applications, for example in a parking area.
Varifocal
Cameras with a varifocal lens allow you to zoom in or out an image while keeping focus on the central subject.
Network/IP
These cameras can be wired or wireless. They are capable of transmitting images over the internet. IP digital cameras are less costly compared to analog cameras and are easy to install. They do not require separate cables to run the cameras indoors or outdoors.
Wireless
All
wireless security cameras
are not IP-based. There are cameras that use a different wireless communication mode. Wireless Security Cameras are easy to install and highly versatile.
PTZ/Speed Domes
You can pan, tilt, or zoom PTZ cameras, or Speed Dome cameras left and right, up and down for maximum video surveillance. They are mostly used by security personnel or border security forces that are into actual surveillance of images. In many areas, people are forced to install just one camera to capture images on a timely basis and in varying light conditions.
High-Definition Cameras
High-definition cameras are often used in casinos. They are used by the operator to zoom in a playing area to see the players and catch any wrong acts such as hiding a card up in their sleeves. Today, you will get many remotely-accessible Pan-Tilt-Zoom HD cameras providing clear, high quality images during the day or at night.
