What We're Looking For (Artist Edition)

Since artist applications open in 5 days, here is a quick explanation of what we will be asking of our artists. If you have any questions, please send them to this blog or through the questions channel in the discord.

There are a few things will apply to all artists in the zine. First, we will not be requiring a specific techno design, you can do anything from human to bunnyblade to piglin, your call. Secondly, we will accept both physical or digital drawings (unless otherwise stated) for most types of artwork. If you choose to do physical artwork, it will have to be scanned (NOT photographed) at final art submission. Also, we will ask for 2-3 examples of your artwork, so pick what you think best represents your art. Last, ALL ARTISTS have to join the discord.

There will be four types of art that are available for artists to sign up for.

The first type will be a cover page. We will have both a front and back cover page, and these will have a separate application form to the rest of the artist/writer sign-ups.

The next type will be paired with a short fic (depicting something in the story) that will be written by one of the writers, and we are going to have a few of these. These drawings should have at least a rough background, and while they don't have to be full body, they should still give that impression. (ex: a drawing of just techno from the waist up holding the dish would probably not be accepted, but a drawing of him sitting at a table that conceals his lower half would be fine)

The last two types of art we will be looking for will sometimes be paired together, but that is not a guarantee as this relies on how many artists we have apply

The first of these will be a handful of smaller doodles/drawings that will relate to the recipe and will be put around the recipe on the page. These should not have backgrounds for final editing purposes.

The other one is only going to be for recipes we don’t have a picture for, and these artworks should show techno with/making the recipe it is paired with. These drawings should have at least a rough background, and while they don't have to be full body, they should still give that impression. (ex: a drawing of just techno from the waist up holding the dish would probably not be accepted, but a drawing of him sitting at a table that conceals his lower half would be fine.) Also, the dish can be in a container, but the dish should be visible in some way in the final artwork.

The writing part of this zine will be broken into a sort of continuous story, sort of how cookbooks tend to have life stories in them. Each section should be at least somewhat connected to the rest, so the writers will need to work together for at least the planning stage.

At the start, there'll be a small story of Techno and Phil chatting and Techno reminiscing about the Potato War, where Phil says something along the lines of how Techno must have gotten sick of potatoes, and Techno says he didn’t, he actually knows a lot of ways to cook them.

Then, each category of recipes will have a small ficlet of how techno learned one of the recipes in the section (chosen by the writer), either by himself or through someone else teaching him.

Finally, at the end of the recipes there'll be another bit tying into the story at the beginning, with techno saying "I told you so" to Phil, and whatever else the writer for that part wants to wrap up the story.
