Currently processing the episode still but I am appearing again to say one thing.

Belos is not someone who has always been evil.

We see memories of him as a normal kid, albeit growing up in a Puritan environment, but a normal kid nonetheless. I think it’s important to remember evil comes from somewhere more often than not, and by dehumanising bad people we in the end distance ourself from the idea of humans being or becoming bad people. I don’t have to explain why that’s a bad thing I hope. And I know it’s just a fictional villain I’m talking about here but I just- really want to appreciate how well the crew did at writing him.

Calling him ‘just evil’ discredits that.

Belos is a bad person. He’s planning the genocide of witches and demons. He committed fratricide over and over again. Usually, villains like that are rarely the three dimensional sort, in disney shows that is, but not here. Belos is evil, but he’s still three dimensional. There are layers to his character beyond just being evil that makes him even more terrifying than if he simply was born a bad person.

The writing team did a FANTASTIC job at Belos and the little details in his mannerisms, the fact he did care for his brother, how he truly believes he’s the hero, he’s the sane one etc, it’s fucking amazing. Terrifying, but amazing.

I was a Belos enjoyer before but now? Yeah, he’s definitely one of my favourite villains.

(Also, I really want to make this clear because my words have been misunderstood before, this not meant to excuse his actions or apologise for them. It’s simply looking into his character and why he’s so interesting as a villain and the depth he has.)

Not to sound like an old fart here but my philosophy about video games is like. A kid living out in the middle of bumfuck nowhere with no internet access for miles should be able to purchase a game from walmart, take that game home, put it in their console, and play the whole game with all of its features and the only thing lack of internet affects is the inability to play online with others. Nothing else. They shouldn't be missing entire chunks of the game becuase they can't download a patch. The game shouldn't be borderline empty or unplayable without a patch.
