Midterm Project Conclusion
In the process of making this midterm, though it was quite a challenge, I did manage to find some peace. My whole goal with “Moments of Peace” was to actively search for things that made the anxiety seem like less of a persistent problem-- made the nagging feeling at the back of my mind creep away for a moment, and I not only succeeded in doing that with the outcome of my photographs and videos, but also in the execution of this project as a whole.
Making “Moments of Peace” made me have to take a step back, and actively look for things that caught my eye. I realized that most often, my inner peace comes in three forms (water, weather, and light) but I also was reminded that mental wellness is not just a passive thing that we are victim to. We have to search for wellness, and try to grasp it ourselves. Searching for things that made me feel calm, made me relax, was such a time consuming, mind consuming process that I had no time to worry about existential dread and fears for the future-- I was too busy staring at puddles and setting up tripods and peering at the sky looking for interesting shapes.
I found that I was too consumed by the process of creating art to worry. And in the process, this project helped me more than I thought it would.
and of course, listening to soft chill tunes of acoustic guitars and gentle piano chords constantly, looking for the mood that suited the photos helped as well ❤

Midterm Project
“Moments of Peace” -- Taylor Champ
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always suffered from a small amount of anxiety, enough that it wasn’t so problematic when I was younger, I’d just get panicky some times, and be unable to relax. But when I turned 19, I suddenly started having panic attacks-- the kind that wouldn’t leave for weeks, consumed my every thought, and made me want to do nothing but sleep, constantly. From time to time, they still hit me, and it’s now a self-fulfilling problem-- where the fear of my existential dread is enough to set me off sometimes. Not even the dread itself, but the fear that it will come back.
As such, I have to almost constantly focus on being calm. Searching for things that make me happy, or peaceful. For the next two weeks, every time I see something that makes me happy, or calm, I’ll find a second to photograph it.

All of these shots were taken of an old Mardi Gras mask I bought in New Orleans. The colors and textures seemed like a good subject for a few macro shots, especially focusing on the glitter and feathers. This really made me wish I had a better macro lens to get even closer on the details!

Blog Prompt: Composition and Light

I think the photos I enjoy the most here are the ones of the old factory. They were taken in downtown Greenville. I was lucky enough that the darker one was taken while they were working, so it’s shrouded and smoke, giving a really cool effect.

Most of these were taken of interesting things I found in my backyard (or my dogs), but some were taken in downtown Greenville, where there’s a lot of interesting run down or historic buildings that make interesting photographs. I think I’m most proud of the light, emphasis (clover) and negative space (hole in fence) ones.
