being the #1 higuchi ichiyo fan out here is HARD because it seems like asagiri created such a lovely character only to completely discard her. we have a woman struggling to gain respect in an incredibly hostile situation, she's pretty pathetic and impulsive and (trauma?)bonded to an emotionally distant man that crushes her already damaged self-worth. but we also see a caring, brave, bold woman who's not afraid of putting her life on the line for the sake of her job and her superior and never gives up on trying to gain the respect she deserves from her subordinates. she never stops trying hard to be the ruthless mafioso she's supposed to be and never stops giving her best for ryūnosuke, even through she knows that she's never gonna gain the affection she craves from him. she's persistent and extremely strong willed. dare i say, she's one of the most human and unashamedly vulberable characters in bungō stray dogs, despite being a port mafia member. it would be so fucking amazing to see how and why did she develop such dependency on akutagawa and how she would be if, after xyz events, she started to detach herself from him and grow on her own. it's just!!!! she could make such a GREAT female character if asagiri just gave her the attention she deserves. in conclusion justice for my girlfriend higuchi!

You know, I wonder how dehumanizing it must be to be a member of the Hunting Dogs. Do the Hunting Dogs feel like monsters, like abominations? Do they even feel human? They're treated like weapons rather than people, but I wonder, do they still view themselves as human beings?

In chapter 76, Teruko says, "The capacities of a Hunting Dog's super body are the result of physical restructuring by special-ability engineers. However, this is through inhuman surgeries." But does she actually consider herself inhuman? Does Tecchou, Jouno, or even Tachihara think they're inhuman? How do you retain your sense of humanity knowing your body has been permanently altered, forever shackling you to your job until the day you die? How do you cope with the fact that if you leave your job, you'll die next month?

Also, after Fukuchi and the Decay of the Angels' defeat, I wonder how used they will feel. I wonder if they'll feel dirty, if the betrayal will stain the way they perceive their jobs and justice, knowing they were being used to aid in a terrorist plot. And knowing they did aid in a terrorist plot without even knowing.

Fukuchi used them, he used them as pawns, he masqueraded terrorism as justice. He played them. He is the very thing their unit swore to destroy, and they didn't even know.

And now their unit is falling apart. It's tragic. Like them, hate them, or feel neutral, the Hunting Dogs are tragic characters.

Best of Ensemble Stars 2022

Number 2- Believe 4 Leaves - Alkaloid

If you can't tell, im a little huge Alkaloid fan. It's not just their music and their story, but the dynamic that they have together really endears them to me. That's why I'm really glad that they were gifted the most impressive MV of 2022, with Believe 4 Leaves.

I have mentioned before that Enstars MVs started off as "idols preforming on a stage but with a more dynamic camera". This has been especially apparent with songs like Bigbang and Living on the Edge in Engstars, as they were year 1 songs. In the second year of content, we started to see some more dynamic things- the long uninterrupted cuts between scenes in Mystic Fragerence, the transition between the 2 different stage enviorments in Feathers of Ark, and the tunnel of Forbidden Rain, but it was really the start of 2022 with Finder Girl to where we saw the evolution of the MV into what an MV is in the real world- a tightly directed 2-4 minute "movie" that tells a story. Finder girl was a song that took place dynamically through Yumenosaki, and it was the first time I went "huh, that felt different"

I first began noticing music and watching MTV in 1999 and 2000- I remember videos like Blink-182 "All the Small Things" and everything by NSYNC and Backstreet Boys having a dynamic theme- the Train chase of "Bye Bye Bye", the toy store aesthetic of "It's Gonna Be Me" and the dramatic night chase of "The Call". Those were all things I felt were evoked by this video, with it's exploration, airship, and bad weather, all leading to the conclusion at the end with the clear skies. There is a story being told here- with Alkaloid as the crew of the ship, Tatsumi the pilot, etc. The fighting between members, Mayoi bringing everyone together- it's just an incredible piece of video.

All this would be for naught if the song was bad (I did NOT like Finder Girl), and thankfully ,this is one of Alkaloid's best. With the Idolmaster SideM discography being added to Spotify worldwide recently, there has been a lot of jokes about the "This is Alkaloid" playlist on Spotify when Enstars does the same thing, and this is the exact song you put at the top of the playlist, as it showcases everything about Alkaloid's music that make them awesome- high energy, powerful, with a mix of chaos thrown in.

Tomorrow is the last day of 2022, and the last song on this list. While this year solidified Alkaloid as my favorite unit, you can probably guess from my Avatar that I used to belong to a different unit, and that unit dropped their first objectivly great song this year...
