A superb 2008 film from Sweden that was later Amercanized as "Let Me In" with Chloe Grace Moretz. Based on the '04 novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist. Watch this Swedish version without the horrible English dubbing.

Teaser for "Spinal Tap 2: The End Continues". I loved the first one, but that's a long time in between the first one and this one. Cautiously optimistic.

Nosferatu (2024)
Many movie buffs are familiar with "Nosferatu" and it's history. The seminal 1922 version, directed by F.W. Murnau and starring Max Shreck, is a landmark film (not just in the horror genre). As a thinly-veiled adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic novel, "Dracula" it drew the ire of Stoker's widow who brought legal action over it. Thankfully copies of the film remained after a judge ordered all copies destroyed. The film was later remade in 1979 by German director Werner Herzog with his long-time leading man Klaus Kinski as Count Orlok. There was a 2023 version which was funded by Kickstarter that I've not seen.
Robert Eggers who did the superb films "The Light House" and "The Witch", directs the 2024 version starring Bill Skarsgard, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe and Nicholas Hoult. The picture manages to capture many of the best elements of both the 1922 and 1979 versions.
Eggers has a much bigger canvas to work with than he did with the two aforementioned films and fills it beautifully. The plot follows the 1922 version pretty faithfully. Herr Knock sends Thomas Hutter to Transylvania to close the deal on a house in London. Unlike the 1922 version Knock is fairly normal (at least for awhile) Skarsgard is mostly seen in the shadows. My only criticism is that Orlok becomes menacing very quickly. I think their should've been a little more development between Orlok and Hutter. Orlok/Dracula has always been a tragic figure. Whereas Kinski's Orlok was too tragic and not really even that scary, Skarsgard's Orlok went the other direction. The castle used for the exteriors of Orlok's castle is a Romanian castle that's hundred of years old.
The 2024 "Nosferatu" is a marked improvement over the '79 version. As with all Eggers' films, it's beautiful to look at, even if what you're looking at isn't. It's a credit to he and Skarsgard that this Orlok stands alone and isn't simply mimicking Shreck or Kinski. Lily-Rose Depp is very good in a very demanding role.
Of the countless "Dracula" remakes and reinterpretations, this version stands as one of the very best.

The late, great Tony Todd in the role he's best-known for. He did many other roles - big and small. Usually, someone deserving gets left out of the Oscars "In Memoriam" segment. This year it was Tony Todd among others.
