Sweat trickled down the side of the weretiger’s face as his fight or flight reflexes screamed at him to make a move. However, instead he remained stationary. He knew the male before him was Port Mafia... he hadn’t actually seen him before, but after working—and fighting—with Akutagawa so many times, Atsushi was beginning to be able to sense when someone was from the Mafia.

There was always something off about them... and this one was certainly no different. The tiger within him was pacing, growling, wanting to be unleashed. But Atsushi refused. After all the hell he had been through over his ability, he refused to let this male know who he was... if he didn’t already...

“Who are you?” Atsushi asked, fighting with his voice to make sure it didn’t crack. He was afraid... but he couldn’t let that show. These mafia members could practically smell fear... “And what are you doing here?”

No amount of training and getting beaten up by the Upper Moons could ever compare to the pain that made the boy ache down to his core... He wanted to always be by his brother’s side no matter what. Especially now. The demon slayers were inside Muzan’s fortress. It was horribly obvious now that they were on opposing sides of this thousand year old war. One of them wouldn’t survive the night... Sakunosuke wanted to take his twin and run as far from here as possible, but he couldn’t. These demons were still his family... The slayers were going to try to kill the upper moons. If something happened to Muzan, Saku’s mother would die too...as will he... It was either that or his twin dying. There was no saving them all.

Amber orbs glanced over to the young woman when he felt her fingertips over the back of his hand. In any other situation, he would certainly have been more alarmed at the sudden sensation... but he knew that Lumine was the only person here who could have touched him. He almost seemed to look curious as he watched her lift his hand in her own smaller palm, wondering what she would do...

The feeling... As soon as her lips met with his hand, he felt a certain warmth rush through his hand, down his arm like a wave. Even though he wore gloves and she hadn’t actually touched his skin, he could feel her. In all of the years he had existed, he had never felt something like this before... The wave of pleasant warmth spread through him and pulled him closer to Lumine. A part of him screamed to be careful, to distance himself from her...but with every moment spent with this woman, Xiao felt that it grew harder to stay away from her.

Even with all of this inner conflict, Xiao’s expression never changed from the ever so slightly curious look upon his face. His amber gaze glanced up from his hand to her eyes. “...I don’t mind fighting alongside you.”
