This hurt, it hurt more than anything else the demon had ever experienced. No amount of training and getting beaten up by the Upper Moons could ever compare to the pain that made the boy ache down to his core... He wanted to always be by his brother’s side no matter what. He should have known that would be impossible with the lives they led...

Especially now. The demon slayers were inside Muzan’s fortress. It was horribly obvious now that they were on opposing sides of this thousand year old war. One of them wouldn’t survive the night... Sakunosuke wanted to take his twin and run as far from here as possible, but he couldn’t. These demons were still his family... The slayers were going to try to kill the upper moons. If something happened to Muzan, Saku’s mother would die too...as will he... It was either that or his twin dying. There was no saving them all.

Sakunosuke swallowed, his throat suddenly seeming to burn with emotion. “I... I can’t...”

“I’m not grumpy..!!” the male said with an annoyed huff. He so clearly was being “grumpy”, and was annoyed about something. He sat on the ground with his arms crossed over his chest in annoyance, refusing to get up and play. 

“Do humans think you’re weak..??” Hmm, probably not. Humans themselves are weak creatures, and by human standards his brother is not weak. However... Demons are incredibly strong, and Sakunosuke was still very young. He wasn’t nearly as strong as the people he was raised around, and they took every opportunity to remind him of that. 

So he was annoyed.

Slow... Calm... all things he was not. Inosuke was so used to mastering things with relative ease that it bothered him he couldn’t breathe right. How hard could breathing techniques be anyway...?? He deeply inhaled, his hands gripping the sword he had swiped from Kokushibo as he straightened his body. He tried to completely fill his lungs with air to their maximum capacity...

And nearly yelled when he was suddenly hugged from behind and lifted just slightly into the air.

“What the hell, Dad???” he barked out, clearly startled by the demon’s sudden appearance. How does he make absolutely no sound when he approaches..?? For fuck’s sake, they had to put a bell on him...

Inosuke sighed, his annoyance calming down as he kind of went limp in the male’s arms. “I’m fiiiiine.... Trying to practice breathing techniques. Were you trying to scare me or something..??”

“HEY!!! I don’t want any of your nasty cult food!!” the young demon barked out, only partly struggling to get out from underneath the body—which was much larger than him, might I add.

Part of him wanted to just give this to his mom for her to eat, but she really didn’t like to eat too many humans... Human morals or whatever. Inosuke didn’t get it. 

He huffed, kicking the limp and bloodied body. Maybe he should be grateful the upper moon was willing to share his food with him. Still... Inosuke didn’t like eating his dad’s cultists. He wanted a challenge when getting his food. A chase, a battle, not just having someone want to be killed. 

Whatever... He’s getting a bit hungry, so he decided to eat regardless.

Even after spending so much time with his human twin, Sakunosuke still couldn’t help but find himself surprised by the small thing his brother adored... While any other person may think a gift of a rock may be stupid and a pretty shitty gift to receive, it was very important to Inosuke and perhaps he was looking forward all day to being able to give it to his brother.

Of course... it was pretty shiny and pretty. Not too bad of a find. It still made him happy—such a strange emotion...—to have his brother give him something. 

The demon boy took the rock into his hands and observed it in the moonlight. “It’s really shiny... Where did you find this??”

Soft Angst Starters—No Longer Accepting

Sakunosuke was aware of this. However, he couldn’t determine just who would win this battle...and that was scary. Inosuke was on his side, and Saku was on his. They couldn’t run from and deny the existence of this war any longer. This is it...this is where it ends. 

They had both broken away from the fight at the Infinity fortress, perhaps both on the run to aid their own allies. But they saw each other...and they stopped. And they realized that this was how it ended. If Muzan won, he would make sure there were no survivors of the Demon Slayer Corps that infiltrated the fortress. If the demon slayers won, Muzan will die and so will all of the other demons—including Sakunosuke. 

“...what do we do now?” The demon hated admitting feeling so defeated and hurt, but he couldn’t help it. Tonight he will either die or live on without a brother. Only one of them will survive... if that. And that thought scared him more than anything else in the world.

“It isn’t that easy, Ino.” He was sure his twin realized that... It couldn’t be so simple as to have him fight by his twin’s side. Would he want to keep his twin safe? Of course. But when push came to shove, if Inosuke were to attack Muzan-sama, Inosuke would defend his kind. His demon family...but he wouldn’t want to actually hurt his twin. 

“I’m still a demon. I eat and kill your kind... And I don’t think I want to stop. When things come to an end, I’m scared we’ll end up on opposing sides...”

He...he didn’t want to end up against his brother, but what if he didn’t have a choice..?

“What am I supposed to call you then..??” the teenaged demon practically growled out. Inosuke didn’t know any father figure other than the second upper moon. The other upper moons were like family, true, but more uncles and cousins and such. 

He couldn’t help it if he saw Douma like his dad..!! And he didn’t know how to stop it or something!! 

He rolled his eyes and pushed the demon’s hand away to stop him from further pinching his cheek. Ugh, he could be so annoying sometimes... But he didn’t him to die or something. He didn’t want any of the upper moons to die or leave. 

“What, do you want me to just call you ‘Douma’ from now on..??” He had no problems with doing so and knew he could easily stop calling him “Dad”.
