Sunset and Whale by Zhang Yuan and Vicky:

I don't know the exact meaning of this song, I can't find good translations anywhere but the gist of it is, it's about the beauty found in brief moments that you want more of but doesn't linger too long .

A whale surfaces for air in sunset and admires the light reflected on the waters, but the whale is tethered to the ocean, it cannot stay and watch the sparkle for long, and the sun will have to sink. Whatever beauty is found is fleeting, the universe and the people go on, without ever pausing to care, time doesn't stop, but that moment existed and it's real and you are always asking for more but there isn't.

I think that sums up ItaJun quite well doesn't it?

I Really Want To Stay At Your house by Rosa Walton:

It's technically a break-up song, but it's also used as an OST after a person dies so it works. I am interpreting it as about being too little too late to help someone and desperately trying to fix things to being back the way they were.

The singer notices signs of their lover having problems, but they reminisce about better times, trying to bring their lover out of whatever is dragging them down by asking their point of view,asking to stay beside them, to leave behind whatever is eating at them. But it doesn't work. Reminded me of Yuuji and Junpei's talk at the riverside, and Yuuji going over to his place and for the briefest moment Junpei was reaching back.

this was all over tiktok and ive seen some people do it here so...here we go...some of these are probably hot takes, you have been warned.

most of the fandom seems to forget that katara is a young girl with deep-seated trauma that she never truly dealt with. cut the racism and misogyny. shes not the “token straight,” shes not annoying, shes not technically the “mom friend,” she deserves a better life (and life partner) than she was given in canon.

katara’s comment to sokka during the southern raiders was harsh don’t get me wrong, but it was justified 

most of my issues with characters fall on their writing...not the characters themselves if that makes any sense

bakoda should have been canon

why didn’t katara, toph and zuko reunite in korra (they’re literally my three faves i was robbed, plus they all just seem sad...)

mako is hot

if we are talking combat, earth is the strongest element...toph can genuinely just drop a rock on someone and its over

republic city is absolutely unnecessary and frankly, stupid. capitalist propaganda :) why would you american-ize this series? im baffled

the humor did not land in for me in lok (list of tried and failed for me is meelo, bumi, bolin, varrick, eska...)

i truly did not feel any strong emotional attachment to any lok character (causing me to be pretty indifferent to most of the entirely new editions to the show)

(i think the large cast did not allow for much development for really anyone, save for korra tenzin and maybe lin?, leaving them all to be pretty two dimensional.)

peace by taylor swift is a zutara song...zukkas dont even try to claim that

zutara works...it just seems like antis forget that these two characters (even if it is not explicitly romantic in atla) have such a strong bond. they listen, care, and look out for one another...and bottom line they see each other as equals. (also watch the second half of tsr again...they play off each other and work so well together)

this fandom demonizes zutara shippers for absolutely no reason while completely disregarding actual problematic issues that occur throughout the rest of the fandom

suki in the comics is practically a katara stand in

makorra felt like an attempt to appease the zutara shippers (it failed immensely)

should we love kuvira as much as we do? should we be shipping her with korra...?

in canon it does make sense that sokka could have been suyin’s father, but where did suki go? were they hinting that zuko and suki had izumi, meaning that sokka and suki broke up? but WHY? they were literally perfect with absolutely no complication in canon...tldr: post-atla is so ridiculous

-now that we don't talk...sokka's pov! "remind myself the way you faded til I left...i cannot bе your friend, so i pay the price of what i lost and what it cost..." HELLO. also "what do you tell your friends we shared dinners, long weekends with?" WELL! "truth is, I can't pretend it's platonic, it's just ended" and the outro is more of sokka thinking well now that we don't talk i don't have to get sucked into the mess that is the fire nation political atmosphere i don't have to suck up to anyone or pretend that i like this life because i don't and i never did!

So, last night as I was falling asleep I got to thinking a lot about Zukka (what else is new?) and also a lot about Taylor Swift (again, what else is new?) I’ve been listening to the new album folklore constantly since it came out (it’s sooooo good if you haven’t heard it go listen to it right now, I’m serious!) 

A lovely commenter on my most recent fic Thread of Gold pointed out that the album can work really well for Zukka and of course my brain decided to take that and run with it.

In particular I’ve been thinking about a version of the in universe world where they’re in a secret relationship and can’t ever really be together the way they want because political reasons. Sleepy brain then focused on two songs specifically for this: hoax and illicit affairs. I see these two songs (in regard to this version of events) as being from their different points of view.

Zuko’s POV, hoax:

“Stood on the cliffside/Screaming, ‘Give me a reason’/Your faithless love's the only hoax/I believe in”

“Don't want no other shade of blue/But you/No other sadness in the world would do”

“You knew the hero died, so what's the movie for/You knew it still hurts underneath my scars/From when they pulled me apart”

“But what you did was just as dark/Darling, this was just as hard/As when they pulled me apart”

“My only one/My kingdom come undone”

I interpret this song as being Zuko wanting Sokka in whatever way he can have him, even if that way is difficult and painful for him, for them both really. “No other sadness in the world would do”

Zuko then doesn’t understand why Sokka can’t seem to just be happy with what they have, why Sokka after a certain point doesn’t want to have to hide their relationship anymore. He then, because this is Zuko we’re talking about here and the guy does not have the best coping skills see that time he screamed at the sky, he takes that to mean that Sokka doesn’t want him anymore and tries to leave “Stood on the cliffside screaming ‘give me a reason’”

But that’s not what Sokka wants, and they stay together, though they both know the situation isn’t really fair to them or their love “My only one, my kingdom come undone”

Plus, this song features a lot of mentions of past trauma coming into play on the current relationship “You knew it still hurts underneath my scars from when they pulled me apart”

Sokka’s POV, illicit affairs:

“Make sure nobody sees you leave/Hood over your head/Keep your eyes down”

“Leave the perfume on the shelf/That you picked out just for him/So you leave no trace behind/Like you don't even exist”

“And that's the thing about illicit affairs/And clandestine meetings/And stolen stares/They show their truth one single time/But they lie and they lie and they lie/...a million little times”

“Don't call me kid/Don't call me baby/Look at this idiotic fool that you made me/You taught me a secret language I can't speak with anyone else”

“And you know damn well/For you I would ruin myself/...a million little times”

Here I interpret this song as being Sokka wishing they could be more open about their relationship and damn the consequences. “You know damn well for you I would ruin myself”

The relationship having to be secret is hard on him, because all he wants is to be open about his love and it hurts for him to have to pretend to not be an important part of Zuko’s life (he also sometimes feels like he isn’t even though he is) “So you leave no trace behind, like you don’t even exist”

Then when Zuko does his Zuko thing and misinterprets things and tries to break it off Sokka gets so upset because he loves him and doesn’t want to be with anyone else and he doesn’t get how or why Zuko can’t seem to understand that “You taught me a secret language I can’t speak with anyone else”

Again, they get back together but it still doesn’t fix the underlying problems that are there “That’s the thing about illicit affairs and clandestine meetings and stolen stares, they show their truth one single time, but they lie and they lie and they lie”

Anyway, I made myself sad and thought I would share with you all. Again, I highly recommend listening to these songs, as well as the album in its entirety.
