Another one for the ask game, Gunnie/Barry/Sid oh and Zortch/Norman (and can you also do Wetzel/Drago)
Barry/Gunnie/Sid
Tumblr media
Neutral makes sense; strong compels me
Are they all canonically not very interested in each other, with Barry and Sid even calling each other Barries (kinda like brothers)? Yes. Do they have just SO many romantic interactions anyway? Also yes. G-d I just. Barry shielding Gunnie with his body when they fell and also just being a shield for him in general. Sid and Barry bonding over being created for a purpose that is lost to them, and being one of a kind when they never were supposed to be. Sid and Gunnie making just terrible decisions together. Plus if you consider that Gunnie is the engineer he probably helped fix up Sid and Barry's armor. Also I think the image of a very short bisexual and his extremely tall bf and gf is Fun. Polly Gunner Channel FTW

Strong doesn't make sense; strong compels me
I will be the first to admit that this would never fucking work in canon. But have you considered that canon can suck my ass. Bc what if Norman turned his whole life around because the one person who doesn't hold a grudge against him is someone he was taught for his entire life to hate. What if he CHANGED FOR THEM. What then. And what if Zortch felt safer around Norman bc he didn't have a hand in kidnapping them and also he knew what it was like to be slugged against his will.
Wetzel/Drago
Tumblr media
Strong makes sense; strong doesn't compel me
This ship is basically canon to me. You cannot tell me they didn't kiss on that Egypt trip. Or share Only One Bed. However I feel like Drago is played a little too comic for me to really get into it you know

Sweet Home Zalpuwa
The Hittite story about the city of Zalpa/Zalpuwa is a curious text: While the beginning gives us a curious fairy tale of mules and incest, the main part speaks of the military conflicts between Zalpa and Hattuša (cf. Alwin Kloekhorst, A New Interpretation of the Old Hittite Zalpa-Text, 2021). But wait, what was that? Mules and incest? Well …
The queen of Neša gave birth to thirty sons in one year. That’s a lot of sons and so she decides to send them downriver in a basket (sounds awfully familiar, doesn’t it?). The gods are merciful, fish the sons out of the water near Zalpa, and raise them.
Anyway, the queen of Neša remains fertile as ever and soon gives birth to a second set of … trigintlets? But this time it’s girls and those she is willing to bring up herself. Cue a leap in time of maybe twenty years:
The sons are on their way b[ac]k to Neša and they are driving a mule. When they arrive in the town of Tamarmara, they speak: “You must heat up the inner chambers here! The mule’s water is breaking!” The men of the town say as follows: “As far as we have seen, a mule [does n]ot [give bir]th!” The sons speak thus: “As far as we have seen, a woman gives birth to [one?] son [at a time], but she gave birth to us all at once!” The men of the town (reply) thus: “Once, our Queen of Neša gave birth to thirty daughters in one time and her sons have disappeared.”
(Translation after Willemijn Waal, A New Interpretation of Two Hittite Verbs with Stem ark-, 2023.)
After this shocking revelation, the sons make their way toward Neša to finally meet their mother. But all this had been just a bit too easy:
When they went to Neša, the gods put another appearance on them so that their mother would not recognise (them) and she gave her daughters to her sons. The older sons did not recognise their sister, but the youngest [said]: “… we are taking our own sisters (in marriage). Now do not commit an outrage, … [it is not] right.”
(Translation after Gary Holland and Marina Zorman, The Tale of Zalpa, 2007.)
… and this is where the text breaks off. Well, almost: We get to see k[att]išmi “with them”, followed by what may be the beginning of šeš- “to sleep (with)”, lē “don’t”, or something entirely different. Frustratingly, we may never know what happened.
But I do wonder about the intentions of the story: If the siblings didn’t have sex, why introduce this element in the first place? And if they did, what did that mean for the thus incestuous rulers of Neša?

okay so
the campaign in general (ig tsane will show up after a couple paragraphs or so):
I was fuckin about in the Trash Heap, right? and I felt like RP-fightin' or something (I had a whole freeform fighting RP thread to do that in anyway but ig I felt like doing it with Rules), and I had pdf's of the core 5e books, so I go "hey does anybody else happen to have the 5e books and want to just like, bash a couple monsters from the Monster Manual against each other for funsies?" (I have to assume that's been done on a whim before by SOMEBODY, dnd's been around too long and its rules are too well-set-up for it, I've just never really heard of it as a thing)
what feels like ten minutes later, people are goin "oh, you're gonna run a dnd game? I want in" which, altho not what I'd been asking for, I found I wasn't against the idea of.
I liked the MM's lore behind "blights," these plant monsters that apparently came about when an evil druid got ahold of a stake that somebody had used to kill a vampire, and bc I guess I'm just Like This, opted to homebrew an entire campaign using nothing but the 5e Dungeon Master Guide's dubious advice and my own imagination, even though I'd never tried to run a campaign at all before (I assumed that there was more "canon" lore for the blights, and ig decided I didn't care; what I hadn't known, and which maybe (?) would've changed things if I had, was that there was already an intro-level 5e module using blights, The Sunless Citadel, which I could've just... I could've just done that).
My version of the villains given in the lore - the vampire Gulthias and the unnamed-in-the-MM "mad druid," who I named Zorman - ...uh, ended up being kind of ineffectual and impossible to take seriously. ...TBPH I dunno if I'm, like, cut out to write villains, it amuses me too much to portray them as arrogant losers who don't even win often enough to be threatening.
But yeah, Tsane Sepret.
...Over the course of the campaign, I made a LOT of character (and place) names using anagrams and silly references, so I still suspect an anagram was involved with naming her in some way, but have never managed to pin it down. It's possible that her first name came from an anagram but I threw out the last name to give her something closer to Serket. (Turns out it's an anagram for "sea serpent" but I'm quite sure that's not where my head was at)(Also I never bothered deciding how to pronounce her first name since we weren't using voice chat anyway; to my mind, it uses the "ts" sound that I knew Japanese uses because of Digimon, but could be either "tsah-ne" or "tsayn," I think I've said it both ways in my head.)
Tsane introduced herself to the party by entering a manor that, as a vampire, she shouldn't have been able to enter uninvited (I forget if that's in the MM or not), but could because of some pact a long-dead noble had made with Gulthias.
In, I think, her third appearance (she was in a siege on said manor that went on way too long), she had a big argument with her boss, who was telecommuting via possessed tree, and cut ties with him (which a vampire spawn isn't sposed to be able to do but Gulthias had technically died ages ago so she'd had the option open and simply not taken it), then insulted both him and the party and fucked off.
She reappeared some time later (two "arcs" later, so, checking old notes, an IRL year and like idfk twenty-odd sessions), in the employ of a random hag. After the party defeated said hag, she persuaded the party to spare her so she could share intel on her old boss.
Now, this last part happened during the day, but the hag had accidentally given Tsane a way to cheat sunlight damage: one of the "weird magic" items she left behind was a jackalope skull that could turn a person touched with it into a jackalope (homebrew obvsly).
Uh, so yeah, long(er) story short, Tsane started wearing it as a hat and being the team pet during the day and an OP ally npc during the night. (And then got, uh, "mutated" and then returned to mortal form via deus ex machina at the end of that arc, so ig her last canon status actually is, she's a normal mortal half-elf now living in the town from arc 1, but in my head I still picture her as the vampire animorph DMPC)(anyways the group p much fell apart after that arc; emotional investment dried up, plus other factors)
Just realized something: I do have a blorbo OC. She's an npc from my old homebrew DnD campaign: Tsane Sepret. Half-elf vampire spawn, former rogue, part-time jackalope, and general asshole. Her personality was very loosely based off, I guess, impressions of Vriska Serket I'd gotten from the Homestuck fans who used to hang around "The Trash Heap of the Tv Tropes Forum" (old shitposty forum thread, it was finally locked a few years ago, god knows what drama caused it to be)(pretty sure I made the character well before I actually read Homestuck, but only pretty sure).
...2 likes and I overshare about Tsane and that campaign in general. (If "1 like and I x" is still a thing anybody says)

Hmmm Zortch sometimes has trouble sleeping because they get these flashes of worry that they’ll be slugged or taken away in their sleep and Norman sits up with them, freeze grenade in hand, when they do (and by sits up with them I mean he falls asleep a few minutes after they do but he stays the whole time)
