they did in fact give me the new layout sometime today but i couldn't tell because i keep my dash zoomed in due to Eyes Bad, and apparently the new dash doesn't work at big zoom

Oh look, it seems everyone has been opted into the unfortunate "experiment" now. For everyone who has been blissfully using the old UI up until now, welcome to hell :)

You will need you have Tampermonkey installed on your browser of choice, and once that's done, just go to the github link above, and peruse the readme to install. And voila! You have your old dash back!

The authors of XKit Rewritten said during the experiments that at the time, since this was an "experiment" they weren't going to implement anything to revert to the old UI (although who knows if they'll do it now). And the dashboard unfucker has worked beautifully enough for me to where I genuinely couldn't tell if they had ended the experiment or not.

New haircut, who dis?

Finally got the heavy ends of my long stay-at-home hair lopped off.

Hilariously (in retrospect), when I met with my wedding hairstylist for our “practice” round this time last year, she was like, “Well, it’s almost there, but you need about another inch, so we’ll just keep growing it out for the next few months.”

Har-de-har-har. Little did she know that it would be MANY MANY MONTHS until our wedding (might) happen.

Ah, 2020.

Plenty of opportunity to grow it out at least.

This is also the longest my hair has been in ages. Forever, I’d kept it about chin length, and layered, thanks to my amazing DC hairstylist.

For a while, I’d contemplated just continuing to grow it out until I could donate it to Locks for Love, perhaps post-wedding. But it just got too damn ... annoying. Like, I’d zip it up in my coat. Or get it caught in my seatbelt (?!) or roll it up in the window. And it continued to get heavier and flatter and limper, which is NOT ideal for the 2D-ness of Zoomland. (Can we talk about how we can see  ourselves on Zoom these days for expontentially more minutes than we’d ever spend looking in the mirror? Is that even healthy?)

It’s always a pain to find a new stylist that gets working with hair that’s like fine silk, and I cycled through a few when we lived in the PNW.

I found one almost immediately when we moved back to Michigan, and she always is so optimistic about putting waves into my hair with a straightener, bless. (They begin to grow limp and then straighten themselves back out almost immediately.) 

She also has long, thick goddess hair that Rapunzel would be jealous of (and has given us the best restaurant recommendations of anyone we’ve met here.) But totally got it when I said it was time to lop-a-chop.

The only downside is no more cute topknots. I can barely get it into a low ponytail, a la Mary on Selling Sunset.

Overall, it feels freer, lighter, and I’m sure there’s something about symbolism and the grief of the postponed wedding a therapist would have a field day with.

A genius combination: Celebrating #BrigidsDay, or #Imbolc, the ancient Gaelic festival marking the traditional beginning of spring, rebirth, and the sheer power of the feminine; colliding with the onset of #BlackHistoryMonth in the United States. The theme played out so perfectly within every word spoken, every historical fact relayed, every personal experience shared. This service is our last and it’s gonna be the ONLY DESTINATION in town, hey, maybe the only destination this side of the millennium. Hop on board for SPAM’s FINAL zine launch. While we’d originally planned for this to happen at our beloved Poetry Club, circumstances have taken this bus for a major swerve into Zoomland. Nevertheless, we’re still here to bring you the ingredients for a proper SPAM party: high-quality poetry, film, choons and other post-internet shenanigans.

Expect ON TIME // OFF-PEAK // LOW CARBON PLEASURE // ACCELERATION // POST-INTERNET POETICS // LUXURIOUS ONBOARD VISUAL & SONIC ENTERTAINMENT // PETRO-MELANCHOLIA // NUMTOT WHOLESOMENESS // SYNTH NIRVANA  // TRANSPORT UTOPIA // && SWEET SWEET TECHNO.

Issue 10, MILLENNIUM MEGABUS, is our biggest and best yet (imagine megabus gold but as hyperobject) and we’re throwing a party to mourn the death of SPAM zine while celebrating the infinite ride that is SPAM Press.

How it works: we will open a *password protected* Zoom call from 8pm till late. The Zoom link and password will be released via email at some point after registering for the launch on Eventbrite. You’re welcome to come and go, keep your video on or take a break, as you like throughout. There will be plenty of interludes plus music and video to recreate the authentic ~queuing for your Red Stripe~ experience. We encourage sweaty bedroom dancing to recreate the musky aromas of an IRL megabus, not to mention dressing up and checking in on the chat throughout. Tell us how yr feeling :)

Music will be streamed through platforms other than Zoom to avoid lags; we’ll post links in the chat on the night.

A few days prior to the event we will publicise approximate set times so you know when to tune in. The poetry will begin at 8.15pm, so don’t miss out.

Recommended dress code: BLUE COLLAR SMOULDER / NUMTOT HOTTIE / MEGABUS CHIC

Recommended donation: Entry is FREE however we ask that you consider making a PayPal donation of £3 or more. We will split this between performers and a charity donation to Trussell Trust.

Last week’s wrap was full of compressed IRL experiences- extra charged because it was far away from Zoomland. I was elated. I was depleted. And I’d do it again. 1/2- meeting new faces at Elevation Barn in NYC courtesy of Will; 3/4/5- Seeing fellow A Better Life Foundation board members off screen in Brownsville, graced by *many* words of wisdom from a one-of-a-kind pastor; 6-meeting my 1st completed doc film’s composer for the 1st time ever(!!); 7..10-scoring a +1 spot in my friend Elizabeth’s 2-hour sailing lesson on the Hudson and taking stock of how lucky I am… and how much I love being here.
