SHANNEN DOHERTY, 90210's Coolest Coed

Fiery, intelligent, self-assured. If any words describe Shannen Doherty, these do. Playing Brenda Walsh on the hot teen TV series "Beverly Hills, 90210," Shannen has taken a sudden star trek into the major-league limelight. These days she's everybody's favorite girl! But 'TEEN picked her as a winner as early as January 1988. At that time, Shannen was starring as Kris Witherspoon in the NBC series "Our House" and appeared on the pages of our January issue!

Born in Memphis, Tenn., on April 12, 1971, Shannen discovered a love for acting at age 9. By then, her family had moved to the Los Angeles suburb of Palos Verdes, and she had performed in the part of Sneezy! ─ in a children's theater production of Snow White. Though her parents tried to discourage their daughter's ambition, it was too burning to be denied, and within a couple of years Shannen was getting plenty of acting opportunities. Her first professional job was at 10, in fact, when she did one of the voices for the animated feature The Secret of Nimh.

But one of Shannen's most fortunate moves as an actress was the one that put her in contact with the late Michael Landon. As creator of the series "Father Murphy," he cast her first in a two-part episode of that show ─ the part of Drucilla Shannon. Shannen had a strong hunch that she'd get the part because her own name was reflected in the character's name and her lucky doll was named Drucilla! Later, when Landon created his new series "Little House: A New Beginning," he gave her the choice role of Jenny Wilder.

"Working with Michael Landon," Shannen says now, "was one of the most important stepping stones in my career. I credit him for guiding me in the right direction when I was very young." Tragically, Michael Landon died last summer, and Shannen lost a beloved mentor, but the gift of respect, encouragement and advice that he gave her over the years is something she takes with her into all of her work. A part of that work which most people vividly remember was Shannen's role as Heather Duke in the Christian Slater movie Heathers. Shannen portrayed a character who throws off a timid, retiring personality to become a bold and dominating young beauty.

Shannen herself is anything but timid. She expresses her strong personality not only in the vintage clothing she likes to wear, but in an outspoken adherence to her beliefs. More than once, Shannen has had something to say about the way her character is supposed to behave. If the script doesn't seem right to her, she'll let her director know it, and often things are changed as a result. "I don't like playing airheads," she has said. "If I'm going to play a teenager, I'm going to play someone with brains, intelligence, a thinking young person."

Which is exactly what Shannen is herself. Her strong feelings about the way teens are portrayed on TV ─ and her willingness to hold out rather than to compromise on her vision ─ hasn't hurt her career at all. Now catapulted into the public eye with the highly rated "90210," she understandably feels the responsibility and pressure of being a role model. But Shannen seems to be handling it with the kind of cool that indicates her inner strength and clarity. "Get secure with who you are," she advises other young women. "Be confident enough in yourself not to let anybody pressure you into doing things you don't want to do." Obviously this is one smart girl who's followed her own advine ─ all the way to super success!

Given that Jay’s the master of electricity who’s been known to use it to mess with electronics before (WHICH THEY NEVER USE NOW HE DOES IT IN SEASONS 5 AND 6 AND THEY LIKE DON’T BRING IT UP AGAIN WHAT-) I could totally see a concept where he zaps himself and some people into a fictional television world on accident out of his grief

Another character would have to be the Monica of the AU and I’m guessing it’d be one of the ninja, zapped in while trying to help and getting sucked into all the crazy (maybe Kai?) while the rest of the ninja are trying to fix things on the outside

While listening to Tangents on this month of fear,

you may find yourself wondering, 'what's going on here?'

'I thought this show was about science and facts,

not creepies and ghosties and blood-sucking man-bats'.

But I hope you see it's not such a departure,

that these ghoulish topics reveal something larger,

that monsters and science, they go hand-in-hand,

because monsters are things that we don't understand.

From the earliest man seeing shapes in the night,

to swamp-gas inspired stories of goblins and sprites,

to mold covered bread that brought visions of demons,

the natural world with horrors was teemin'.

But then science and medicine gave us solutions,

and cleared up some of our more eerie delusions.

Then as man began treading in God's own domain,

new stories conflated learning with something arkane.

Men of science pervert nature with unholy aims,

digging up bodies and tinkering with brains,

but society progresses and helps us to learn,

medical breakthroughs aren't something to fear and to spurn.

But atomic power, now that's a different story,

our minds invented tales of horror most gory.

killed by radioactive avatars of death,

or vapourised by creatures with fiery breath,

and while splitting the atom does have a dark past,

it also improved our lives, in ways small and vast.

But on the horizon the space race was loomin',

so alien commies from beyond came zoomin',

to TVs and theatres tales of the blob,

and aliens that look just like your neighbour, Bob.

but we went to space and came back pretty unscathed,

and developed technology worthy of praise.

then public health crises and bad mental health systems,

inspired sex-hating psychos and their teenage victims,

but thanks to scientific inquisition

we developed more empathy for the human condition,

Now there's AI facists and face-scanning drones,

creeps on the internet and cameras in our homes.

To give us fresh fodder for stories of fright,

and keep us awake through the long shadowy night.

And while fear seems to have a dastardly grip,

on everyone's lives, may you now be equipped,

with knowledge that we hope these episodes embue,

science creates monsters, but it helps kill them too.

oh gosh it's the least i can do! i hope you slept well and are feeling a little better this morning!

let me tell you about my childhood dog, cody. he passed away a few years ago (age-related causes) and i miss him dearly! he was a chocolate lab and very much embodied the labrador spirit. meaning, he was a sweet, gentle boy who loved walks, swimming, chasing birds and small mammals, and sleeping.

he was also - and i say this with nothing but love - a dum-dum. my favorite example is when he and i would be playing with a toy. i would take the toy, put it behind my back, and show him my empty hands. and the toy was gone!!! totally gone! and he couldn't figure it out! he never knew where the toy had gone! i tried this exactly one (1) time with my current dog, murphy, and he looked at me like "do you really think i'm gonna fall for that?" and walked around me to pick up the toy. cody could never, bless his big dumb heart.

so, to the story. cody rarely got into people food. he would beg and would eat it if it was given to him or dropped on the floor, but he usually wouldn't counter-surf or steal food. his one exception was costco muffins, which he would steal at any opportunity. well, we went out for the night (i think to a movie or something) and cody got into some people food. i had some dark chocolate in my backpack, which was sitting on the floor of my bedroom. i didn't even think to zip up the backpack because i forgot the chocolate was in there and i didn't even begin to think that cody would get into it, because he just didn't do that.

well! he did. we got home to find the foil from the chocolate shredded across the floor. and he was ZOOMIN. like, sprinting around the house, jumping on and off the furniture, demanding attention and play time. it was pretty late at night, past his bedtime, so this was unusual. so i, being a paranoid fuck, looked up "chocolate overdose" and read the line "if your dog is exhibiting signs of hyperactivity, they may have already received a lethal dose." my parents were already asleep and the chocolate was my fault, so i determined i would stay up all night and observe him. because i could not let chocolate kill my chocolate lab. it would just be too horrifically poetic. so i got up on the couch and brought him up there with me, and put on some stupid awful late-night tv, and spent 3-4 hours sitting on the couch ready to jump out of my skin with anxiety, certain i had killed my poor sweet dog. meanwhile, he was snoring. completely fine and totally oblivious to my ongoing meltdown. he had a great night's sleep and woke up in the morning like nothing had happened. here is the sweet boy in question ❤️

The first season of the American television medical drama Grey's Anatomy, began airing in the United States on the American Broadcasting Company on March 27, 2005 and concluded on May 22, 2005. The first season introduces the main character, Meredith Grey, as she enrolls in Seattle Grace Hospital's internship program and faces unexpected challenges and surprises. Season one had nine series regulars, six of whom have been part of the main cast ever since. The season initially served as a mid-season replacement for the legal drama Boston Legal, airing in the Sunday night time slot at 10:00, after Desperate Housewives. Although no clip shows have been produced for this season, the events that occur are recapped in 'Straight to Heart', a clip-show which aired one week before the winter holiday hiatus of the second season ended. The season was officially released on DVD as two-disc Region 1 box set under the title of Grey's Anatomy: Season One on February 14, 2006 by Buena Vista Home Entertainment. The season's reviews and critiques were generally positive, and the series received several awards and nominations for the cast and crew. The first five episodes of the second season were conceived, written and shot to air as the final five episodes of the first season, but aired during the 2005-2006 season due to the high number of viewers that watched 'Who's Zoomin' Who?', the season's highest-rated episode with 22.22 million viewers tuning in.

I’ll admit, it ain’t something I exactly focus on when I sizin’ another dude up. But I do know a couple people I guess I’d call a superhero. I mean, they ain’t exactly packin’ muscles to be liftin’ cars, jumpin’ buildings, or wearing capes, but to me they’re still superhero’s. My boy Michael, my boy Trevor— they ain’t got the look for it to be wearin’ spandex, but they’re some of the roughest motherfuckers I roll with. They been through the shit, you know what I’m sayin’? Eeeevery motherfucker has wanted to clap my homeboys at some point, and they just keep shruggin’ it off. Now that’s what I call superhero material.
