I'm cute and sexy and that's why I'm allowed to build my wizard tower within city limits. Zoning laws don't apply to me because the whole city council is so charmed by my voluminous robes and funny hat.
I think they're actually charmed by that spell you put on them, not your style... Nay, I say not. If they're bespelled by anything it's my luminous personality and dumptruck asscheeks.

ZONING. WOW. There is a word that causes much consternation for many folks who live in towns, cities and any other kind of municipality - Large cities to very small towns. Flip side of that is that it prevents a lot of heartburn too.
Zoning is the process of dividing land in a municipality into zones (e.g. residential, industrial) in which certain land uses are permitted or prohibited. The type of zone determines whether planning permission for a given development is granted. Zoning may specify a variety of outright and conditional uses of land. It may also indicate the size and dimensions of land area as well as the form and scale of buildings. These guidelines are set in order to guide urban growth and development. Zoning is a technique of land-use planning as a tool of urban planning used by local governments in most developed countries. Areas of land are divided by appropriate authorities into zones within which various uses are permitted.
So...if you live in a residential zone, you probably won't have an auto repair shop banging away next door. If you are in a business zone, it is more appropriate for traffic coming and going and business activity. Manufacturing zone?...industrial buildings and the like. Other uses are not permitted.

A Double Housing Squeeze
A Double Housing Squeeze #ZoningLaws #WageStagnation #HousingPrices
A big focus on unaffordable housing is on the price of homes and the cost of rent. However, wage stagnation is another important factor that contributes to unaffordable housing. In $2.00 A Day, Kathryn Edin and H. Coral Gables has a reputation for its very strict—and frequently unusual—city codes. As recently as 2007, the entire zoning code was revamped, but to this day, there are still a few ordinances that are... well, peculiar.

As a former nine-year member of the Board of Supervisors and nine-year mayor, I know firsthand the merits of strong zoning laws. They protect residential areas so they can support families and be free of commercial activities that are not related to neighborhood needs.
