Summary: Zombie arrives home after a day full of hero duties.

Every single time Zombie met someone new, they saw a tough muscular man who could crush his enemies like it was nothing. They were scared of him for a good reason.

However, what they never seemed to realize is that the hero had another side. A soft, caring side that he only showed to his family.

His family consists of three people. You, his amazing loving wife, your barely a month old baby girl and of course him.

Zombie loved being a hero, it was what made him move forward and it was what made him meet you.

Meeting you, he instantly knew he liked you, he knew he would be able to fall in love. In the beginning he didn't want to fall in love, he tought it would only make his life more difficult and how would he feel watching the one he loves get old while he doesn't age?

These thoughts however completely disappeared when he saw your smile for the first time. And from then on it was all downhill for him. He didn't even notice as he inevitably fell in love, then proposed to you.

But one thing he will never forget, his daughter. Your little bundle of joy who was born not even month ago. 

He remembered how shocked he was with the news, since he thought he is unfertile, but obviously he was wrong. 

He remembers the way your stomach grew and so did his worry. He feared that a villian one day will use you agains him, but Zombie also knew he couldn't live in a bubble, afraid of the "what if's". He knew he needed you in his life.

And so, every single day, when he was ready to go home for the day, he was excited. He smoked his last cigarette on his way home and soon arrived to the small, but homey house.

The lights were on and he opened the door with joy.

"I'm home!" he called out and he heard your footsteps getting closer.

"Welcome home." you greeted him with your baby in your arms. You moved her a little and showed her to her father. "Look Honey, Daddy's home." The baby looked so much like Zombie, it always warmed his heart, from her skintone to her hair colour it all matched with her father's. Except her eyes, she got those from you. Your daughter excitedly reached out to her father who took her into his arms.He kissed her head and after, yours.

"I made dinner." is what you said as you walked further into the house. Zombie following you with his daughter still in his arm. 

With a smile on his face he entered the dining room and sat at the table. The table was set and all of his favourites were there. He put his daughter into her high chair. 

As he sat there eating his dinner, telling you about his day, listening to his daughter's mumbling, and watching you smile, he knew he was finally happy. He felt so full, so loved.

OPM Manga Review: Schemes and Heroes

Yup, this is the long-delayed review of updates 235 and 236, variously numbered as chapters 190-1 (Cubari) or 188-189 (Viz, Tonarinoyj). I've made several starts but somehow, never got far.

Summary: Slowly, then all at once

That's how bankruptcy is supposed to happen: the trouble sneaks up on you, and then suddenly, it's all falling apart. When it comes to the crisis of confidence that the Hero Association is facing, they've realised that they're in some bother since they're now struggling to get new recruits. However, things are about to get a lot worse.

We have Child Emperor, spurred by disgust and frustration at the Hero Association's faults and unwillingness to address those flaws, all topped with rage about discovering the pun that his hero name is, who has left the organization for the Neo Heroes. He's announced his new hero name, now known as Wild Emperor.

Zombieman has gone to consult Dr. Genus about possibly removing his limiter like Saitama has. He's concerned for Isamu's well-being and Genos's testimony is one he can't afford to ignore. The doctor has agreed to show him something interesting in the basement.

There's no question that the Hero Association is in deep trouble. We'd seen in earlier chapters that they were struggling to recruit new heroes. Now, we're beginning to see how they lose existing heroes. We see Snek given a brief to investigate a monster attack on a donor, only to learn from Isamu that the monster is long caught as it's one of the many monsters sold as exotic pets. Far from being an investigator trusted to handle a delicate cold case, Snek has been given some busy work. To say he's unimpressed is an understatement.

They still seem to imagine heroes grow on trees the way they're treating the most loyal ones.

More seriously, as Amai Mask tells the executives gathered to discuss the problem of heroes defecting, the executives have ignored Isamu's recommendations to address the shortcomings. He's got an idea other than ditching the HA: raise a hero to serve as a standard-bearer to inspire heroes to join and recommit. It's a great idea, but his choice of Saitama is going to be a hard sell from the get-go. Still, he gets the go-ahead.

We know that 'perfect' and 'Saitama' do not go together. Amai is about to find that out the hard way.

The next chapter starts at another meeting of the executives. And another shock defection. This time, it's not a hero, but Sekingar, who returns his HA-provided artificial eye and hand. He says that he's going to the Neo Heroes as their organisational details and plans for hero development are superior. He stands his ground and counters McCoy's accusation of his jumping ship to sell HA secrets to the Neo Heroes with some shade of his own, saying that he's a company man and knows no one trusts a traitor.

All starts to make sense once Sekingar picks up his new equipment and establishes comms with Wild Emperor. This is all part of a plan to infiltrate the Neo Heroes, find out what they're up to, and assess whether it poses a threat to heroes. Sekingar exits the lift to go out to the pick-up helicopter, only to find Metal Bat waiting for him. Metal Bat will be joining him as his body guard, after having been asked to do so by Sicchi as a favour. Since Sekingar is someone who has earned Metal Bat's respect -- not to mention going into danger like a hero -- he's only too happy to do so. The pair make their way to the Neo Hero chopper.

The earned trust and respect between those two is wonderful to see.

Changing topic, there's another not-quite-a-hero guy we've yet to hear about. Garou. We start out with a glimpse of what the Bang dojo dynamics must have been like. Toxic! He's back, and he's starting right where he's left off, terrorising Charanko. Bang quickly puts an end to it with a knock to his head and puts him to wiping the floor. Working his way up from the bottom of the pecking order is the only way to be accepted anew, Bang insists. Soon, it's time for Garou to head out to his court-ordered part-time job. Even as he grumbles about having too much to do, there's an eagerness and lightness to Garou as he heads off to earn money. The dojo sees him off.

Charanko settles down to relax at last, only to be shocked to see King come pay a visit. Inside, King tries to explain his current predicament to Bang, telling the old man about the near-miss he had with Atomic Samurai the day before. Unfortunately, between the old man's hardness of hearing, King's roaring heart beat, and how much King is muttering, Bang can't hear it. Finally, desperately, King shouts, 'Please make me stronger.' And that is where we end the chapter.

Self-Efficacy

I love it when characters help themselves. There was a time that I nearly quit watching One-Punch Man: it was in episode 9, when despite everyone's efforts, the Deep Sea King had not been checked, and then Saitama dispatched it with one punch. I felt acutely depressed rather than elated or relieved: what was the point of a series where only one character's actions mattered? Thankfully, I gave it one more episode and the other S-Class heroes started getting introduced, with Tatsumaki showing that she was far from chopped liver. Good. The manga has more space, and it has given characters the opportunity to try more ways of understanding and trying to solve their predicaments, and I. LOVE. IT.

Carefully weighing up the threats and any opportunities this new thing poses rather than simply reacting.

I've Got My Eye On You

Sorry, I'm allowed one Dad Joke a day and today's your turn for me to set it upon you. The sight of the two one-eyed men casting sidelong glances at each other, sizing each other up, and each daring the other to come clean was splendid. McCoy has put himself in a great position to do harm to the Hero Association. He's the vice chief of operations and has made himself seem indispensable in these frightening times. He may be up to evil dealings -- and in chapter 188 we've seen that he's actively set up Amai Mask to fail and is colluding with the Neo Heroes, but he's nowhere near as untouchable as he thinks he is. It's good to see Sekingar and Isamu working together to thoroughly understand what McCoy is really up to and what the Neo Heroes' true intentions are, rather than simply jumping on the first evidence of wrongdoing and losing their leads. I'll come back to this in a sec.

However, McCoy knows that Wild Emperor is onto him, and what with having suggested the Neo Heroes to Sekingar in the first place, is sure to be wary about Sekingar's true intentions. This isn't going to be an easy mission for either of them. I have no doubt in the strength of Metal Bat's arm, but man, he's a little too open for a mission, isn't he?

They know each has dirt on the other. Who will crack first?

A Hero Is As A Hero Does

What I love about the cover of 189 is that it features people who act heroically whether or not it's in a capacity traditionally known as 'hero'. This pair of chapters has really been bringing that out. Sekingar's frustrated heroism is finding an outlet in looking out for heroes, even at risk to himself. Sicchi may not want to be a hero, but his unwavering concern for the well-being of humanity and willingness to find ways to use his position to help those who can make a difference shine here. He's a good boss. King and Saitama over in the distance need no explaining. And as for Garou, even as he's not willing to admit it yet, he's a hero through and through.

The Years Come Off, What New Experiences Will Grow?

It really disconcerted a lot of fans to see Garou be the slightly immature teenager he actually is rather than the young man he's been posturing as. Despite how he's being knocked around, there's a lightness to Garou which just goes to show how heavy the burden he'd placed on himself as Fixer of the World was. I've ranted before about Bang's style of dojo management -- the idea of being able to punch down definitely came from him.

Apples don't fall far from trees, after all.

It's not just Garou who has gotten a second chance to do better, but Bang as well. Between Garou and the former disciples who have started coming back, there are a lot of people looking to see if he'll do right by them this time. I hope he's up to it.

King? Eh, I'll leave his tale of woe to the next review!

Small Note

How did you know that? Why are you telling me this? These are questions that ONE takes the time to scrupulously ask: knowledge doesn't come to one just because one is smart. It has to have a source, and that source has to have a reason for sharing it with you. It's really nice to see that Phoenixman's knowledge of the Hero Association's backroom dealings comes from having been a previous captive.

2 things i bring up:

It's interesting how classic Doom doesn't really have a game over screen.

But the camera focusing on what demon killed you is kinda cool.

There's also how 2016 came up with first person glory deaths for the Slayer which was cool.

Imagine if Eternal had one where the Dreadknight sliced the player in half and the camera literally splits and both "cameras" go to different directions to imply Doomguy was cut in half.

Also how cool some ports of Doom had Doomguy's head exploding.

If Doom brought back the HUD face and did more with it, imagine the different kinds of deaths for the face.

Another thing also: Some source ports add texts like "player was killed by a zombieman" or "player was squashed by a mancubus".

That was never done officially in the series, was it?

Could be cool.

I can't keep my brain away from a certain scenario and now you have to hear my rumblings because eff-it, I have to write it down.

I pictured Isamu having a nightmare because despite being a genius he's still a kid and he can be traumatized like everyone else. He goes knocking at Zombieman's door room, asking to sleep with him COFFbecauseDad'sArmsAreHisSafePlaceCOFF.

I imagine Zombieman is the kind of guy that sleeps with the hand under the pillow and finger on the trigger (like the classic hardboiled noir detective his character has been inspired on) but as soon as he realizes it's his child Isamu, he hides the gun in the drawer and lets the kid sleep in like the true father figure he is.

That's it. I could make a short comic about it, but work drains my time and energies :'l

While I really like Hanahaki Disease, usually one of my issues with the trope is that they never just get the surgery (or they take far too long to do so), because to me, probably after like two days, I'd run off to get it. I don't think I could justify the thought process of someone that wouldn't get the surgery very well - so I never really bothered to write a fic for it myself. But then I realised I knew a prime character that fits my criteria.

Zombieman. I could write Hanahaki Disease for Zombieman. He literally can't die - it wouldn't mean a thing to him not getting the surgery. (Does this remove some of the stakes involved in the trope or whatever? Perhaps...)

It's okay if the flowers cause him to have holes in his lungs! It'll heal over anyways! He coughs up blood? Just another day for him. If it gets too annoying for him, he could always just - you know, dig into his chest cavity and give the flowers a trim or something because it'll heal over.

I don't know much about flowers (or plants), but I wonder if it would be more plentiful since, uhm. They're growing on a dead body? Isn't it supposed to be like better for them or something since there's more nutrients or something?

I don't think Zombieman can age, so for as long as he lives, he'll always have a reminder. So long as he never lets go of his feelings or he never gets surgery.

This would probably be the only illness he could get in his body since I'd imagine for anything else, his regeneration could just take care of it, no fevers, cold, etc... but unrequited love? That's terminal. (Or in his case, it would be chronic?)

Anyways. Just thoughts. Maybe more if I get the time and willpower.

So! Finally caught up on opm manga!!! Gotta say I’ve loved these last few chapters and I missed reading it so much, college has taken away the time to read my fav series regularly :( Anyway, my thoughts aren’t completely sorted yet but I’ll say a few things! (MANGA AND WEBCOMIC SPOILERS BEWARE)

1. OH MY GODDDD the Blast reveal about why he’s been away? So fucking cool!! It’s weird bc that’s like the one thing I haven’t been spoiled on lately so it was a fun reveal and makes me extra interested in his character and where he’ll go from here, especially when Blue gets introduced.

2. OH MY GOD GENOS BEING A LITTLE SHIT AT THE MEETING AND EVERYONE BEING LIKE ‘this bitch is gay’ WAS EVERYTHING IVE EVER WANTED OH MY GODDDD. Also, the way everyone played off of each other in the meeting, especially Genos being a snarky bitch to everyone and Zombieman trying to mediate was so funny. I love Genos oh my FUCKCJCJCJX 😭😭😭😭🧎🏻🧎🏻🧎🏻🧎🏻

3. AND THE FUBUKI AND PSYKOS FLASHBACKS?? So impressed with the way Murata has really brought One’s art to life in his own way once again! Amazing work, and I won’t mention the gay shit between them bc that’s all I’ve been talking about lately. I will say, I was worried the Psykos and Fubuki fight had been cut out or something but I gotta say, making it a short flashback that also foreshadowed God was genius and a great solution to having the fight without conflating the MA battle even more.

4. Arguably one of the biggest deviations from the wc, Tatsumaki herself. Seeing that her fight with Fubuki over Psykos is now “staged” in some way bc of Tatsumaki, it absolutely drives another wedge between wc Tatsu and manga Tatsu as completely different people. In the wc, the fight over Psykos was extreme and Tatsumaki put Fubuki down more than usual, threatening to seclude her and it painted her as overprotective and downright cruel. I imagine that she’ll still play up the whole mean vibe as an act, but that’s just it! The fact that she isn’t going to plain kill Psykos out of the whole “she must die because I say so” idea, even tho she has another idea with what to do psykos in relation to the ones who once experimented on Tatsu completely distinguishes her as the kinder, more well rounded Tatsumaki here, both because of her actions and the larger amount of insight into her past that we’re given in the manga. The only thing this will change, tho, is her fight with Saitama, which was born of pure anger because of his words that supported Fubuki and told Tatsu she was being shitty. Now that it’s an act, will she get as angry and do the whole side fight with him, or will he get involved bc of the Tskyuomi guy? (I’m sorry Idk how to spell it😭). If so, it won’t be bad, but I’m worried it won’t be as good as the og fight, that one’s a classic.

Regardless of changes, I’m so so interested in the way this arc is going down and the way the changes of the MA battle are making bigger and bigger ripples! Also, sorry for being so MIA, promise I’ll try to talk to some of my mutuals and asks and stuff, y’all are very fun to talk to and I feel mad at myself for not finding more time to exist in the community again :(

i have been plagued by an incredibly niche au and it seems to me thine inbox is the spot best fit to drop this thing without immediately being exiled from the fandom on the grounds of cringyness--

opm, set in some kinda fantasy paleolithic. like the sort you'd see in pulpy fiction that doesn't bother about research - which tbh is the source material's vibe! the world is populated by megafauna and many hominid species that deff wouldn't exist at the same time. the recent rise in temperatures causes monsters to emerge from the underground - said monsters being dinosaurs. not the only weird element, as i did mention fantasy- so the setting also features simple magic.

abt the characters, i've to confess -- this was conceived as a fubukos au, so i mostly worked out their stuff. the sisters are witches: fubuki's skills are spread thin over multiple talents - while tatsumaki controls the very weather. psykos learned mind reading and mind control, and was once the village seer, until commiting some sort of abhorrent crime and being banished to the wilderness. in exile she became worse and more ambitious, and now seeks to tame the monsters using her powers and soooorta obliterate hominidkind??

orochi is a two-headed melanistic quetzalcoatlus she rides into battle and feeds human flesh. fun?

as for the rest-- genos is a bones cyborg, metal bat fights with a mammoth tusk, zombieman rots and replaces bits of himself with fossils, amai is part pegomastax ( don't ask ), bofoi invented the wheel etc etc... and i imagined none of these characters are modern humans - with the exceptions of king and saitama.

sai is not as strong as in canon, but still the strongest, and sorta left his human village because everyone thought he was kinda weird. same issues as in canon, and for all his anatomical differences from the other hominids - somehow, they still find it weirdest that he's bald.

this is as abridged as i could get it, but i just needed to let some of this stuff loose upon the internet or i'd topple, even if said internet is concentrated purely within your inbox 🙏

Genos as a bones cyborg..! So considering the magic element, maybe "plating"/armor of different bones, spikes etc - can even incorporate parts of dinosaurs etc that he's killed

Tbf a perfectly bald and clean-shaven man like Saitama probably WOULD look weird to a lot of people in this setting lol

Also, poor KING he must be so Stressed at all times, even more than in canon lol

If I may: Kuseno is a neanderthal, recluse living in a secret cave, but still super smart and helps Genos etc

been talking with Brad (over @ sciass) and writing with him on d.iscord and we have a sort of MP100/OPM crossover universe goin and here are the facts:

the Hero Association mostly leaves Seasoning City alone, bc they like to focus on the “richer” cities (A-M) anyways. they sent folks to study the Divine Tree while it was there, but no one’s figured out the powerful psychic stuff happening. good thing Mob is there huh

Dimple has no favorite hero. he thinks they’re all kinda weird and probably after popularity. the exception to this is King, because he read King right away for the Normal Guy he is. they’re dating, he loves how flustered the man gets, thinks it’s cute because he’s so pathetic. can easily beat him arm wrestling

also King’s rather strong hero instinct, despite his powerlessness, is such a good foil for Dimple’s evil zoomies. he keeps Dimple grounded, Dimple chases off the anxiety. they’re a surprisingly good match despite the chaos the ghost brings to the poor man’s everyday life

Yoshioka’s favorite hero is Zombieman. he’s already into spooky stuff, but also Zman has the style, the attitude, the weapons, all the classics. he hopes someday King can score him something signed, but has never imagined meeting him because who gets to actually meet their favorite hero? not him

Reigen demands to know why tf his associate is dating an S class and if Dimple brainwashed or tricked King into it. Dimple enjoys the way he freaks out about it however. if Reigen is nice to him and the stars align, maybe King will introduce his boyfriend’s not-boss to his pal Saitama – who happens to be Reigen’s favorite hero. especially after noticing Reigen’s phone background is Caped Baldy

Saitama and Yoshioka have similar depression levels. yikes.

I imagine this has happened with Zombieman a lot. He was murdered at a work do one time, and woke up later with no idea who had killed him. He's not technically a zombie, just a fairly ordinary man with regeneration. Not as much as Wolverine sometimes has, but pretty close. He fought a vampire, which was a completely one sided battle -except that he just kept taking blow after blow, until his enemy was exhausted, and then ...

Tragically, one of your employees died violently at work. Which is why you are very surprised that they showed up for work the next day.

Just what did he *do* to them?

So, as The Organization's dastardly plan has been enacted, we've learned that there's a kill list that they're checking off, exceptional individuals who have been targeted for death -- and reconstruction as will-free fighters.

The S-Class heroes, Garou, and a few others, have each had a Machine God sent to kill them and take their corpses back to HQ for treatment.

One Machine God. No back up plan, apparently.

So far the exception has been Dr. Kuseno. Kuseno may only have been No. 23 on their list, but he's gotten special treatment. THREE Machine Gods got sent to kill him, each at threat level dragon, and they were backed up by seven further powerful robots.

Just as remarkable was what they did. For everyone else, the Machine God will announce itself, explain why it's there, talk shit, and only then attack. The Machine Gods sent for Kuseno stealthily approached late at night, stayed well outside the building perimeter in the forest, and sniped the scientist clean through his centre of mass through the building walls. If the other Machine Gods used that modus operandi, they'd have a lot more success but they're acting as if the others are nice-to-haves.

I can almost imagine the conversation that must have happened behind the scenes:

Machine God 'Body': I alone will be enough for one shitty old man and his ex-human pet. Head of Organization: NO! We absolutely cannot afford slip-ups. Take two more guys, and make sure you play together nicely. Also, take this backup squadron in case that old weasel tries to make a run for it.

Why? Thinking of three possibilities.

They really, really, really hate Kuseno.

They think that Genos and Kuseno are an extraordinary threat.

They think that Kuseno is a special resource that they must acquire at all cost.

Let's take them in turn. None of them are mutually exclusive.

Number 1 is very possible! Let's call it The 100 Cyborgs Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Hate You theory. I would not be surprised to see some very unwelcome revelations when/if Genos finally gets to The Organization.

Number 2 seems the least likely. Given how much store the Machine Gods -- and indeed the rest of the guys associated with The Organization -- place on ranking as evidence of strength, they're not likely to make much of Genos's strength. Unless they know that his type of strength is a special problem for them. But then, why are they not chasing Drive Knight with the same ardour?

Number 3 is very interesting indeed. If Kuseno knows something or has skills they cannot do without, then given that they can revive people as semi-automatons with no willpower, this is the best way to get their hands on it.

But wouldn't this risk damaging Drive Knight's anti-Bofoi plan?* That is if Drive Knight is in cahoots with them.

I thought about it some more. Not really. If the squad was able to kill Genos, then it'd mean that he was never strong enough to take on Bofoi's forces, and they'd be rid of a troublesome S-Class hero. And if they weren't, Genos would blame Bofoi for the attack, and then they're rid of two troublesome S-Class heroes. It's a win-win however they look at it.

Set an elephant to get rid of an elephant, as Zombieman would say.

So far, it's all going according to keikaku, which means plan.

The only questions now are, do they dig up Kuseno's body, and how do they get away with this?

*I'm still open to giving Drive Knight the benefit of the doubt, but at this point, it's really not looking good at all.

"Deconstructing" the Dark Lord

There's a lot of things to be said about this character.

The most i usually say is "it's a mix of things that could have been seperate" and there's a good reason: He's a character almost made special by the ingredients combined that define him.

And each idea that represents him lead to fans expect anything but the final result and i believe even id themselves have second thoughts about this character (You've probably heard the idea that he was supposed to have a dragon phase).

So this post of mine is both me explaining why some fans didn't like the Dark Lord, while also thinking out ideas that could've worked or appealed more to fans.

Even if some of these ideas don't make a lot of sense or "contradict lore", it's more about Doom "being epic" and how some concepts rank in a "cool factor" for a series like Doom (At least considering some fans).

MAJOR SPOILERS, even if this is Doom.

"EVIL DOOMGUY"

People expected a 1v1 style duel where you fight a "mirror/copy" of Doomguy and not a "retouched Marauder" (This specifically feels wrong in the era of the series where lore matters a bit more and there's a special focus around Doomguy's current state as the ultimate demon killer).

The explenation of him looking like Doomguy may not help: I forgot but i think it's a weird context that means Doomguy IS the actual copy even if not intentional (To fans, Doomguy's appeal is that he was a random guy that got into a whole mess and wasn't always special).

And i guess how Doomguy's face isn't faithfull enough in 3D yet, but i mentioned that in a previous post of mine.

Ideally, "Evil Doomguy" could be like this:

Make the armor like the Immora/Skullface/Cultist skins where it's a demonic version of the Praetor suit.

Give him an arsenal of different weapons that are bound to phases.

The phase weapon system means he could start with a weak pistol and shotgun, like he's growing his arsenal by phases.

His weapons (Shotguns, chaingun, rifle, rocket launcher, plasma rifle, Gauss/Ballista equivalent etc) would have somewhat unique/different alt fires/mods even if their primary fires are the same as the player's.

At the last phase, he'd obviously have a BFG9000 and a Crucible with its own melee attacks.

Even his Chainsaw has melee attacks.

He can also double jump and dash, while also having his own equipment launcher cannon.

He can glory kill nearby fodder enemies for resources: THIS right here is his weakness, because he can run out of resources and has to fight for them like Doomguy does, so it's like a window of opportunity to hit him back.

His health bar has his own animated face on the HUD, just to show how much of a Doomguy clone he is.

At some point, his helmet falls during combat and he shows his face.

Lore: Make him a creation by Hell that exists as a mix of both fear and hatred Hell has toward Doomguy.

Alt lore idea: Remember Doomguy's boss that was mentioned in the D1 manual? Maybe he ended up going through his own journey through Hell and became an "Anti-Slayer" (And then his shoulder equip launcher is like a snake creature).

Stage? Maybe something like a "deathmatch arena" you'd expect out of Quake 3 or something, since a simple large circular area won't be good enough.

The idea of a rival for Doomguy seems special when you consider factors like how the Marauder still had a limited arsenal, when D3 has a boss that was Doomguy's boss turned into a monster with the BFG9000, zombie soldiers always carrying familiar/ingame weapons etc.

Plus, "evil version of the protagonist" is popular in some other games as well, so it's like Doom lied about its own version of it.

(Scythe 2 screenshot taken from Doomwiki, since the wad includes an "evil marine" that the player faces; Speaking of which, Colorfull Hell had a boss called "Player 9" that replaces the Zombieman and it's a fake deathmatch player invading your game)

Also, remember “voodoo dolls” from the Doom engine? Imagine if Doomguy saw these strange copies of him before facing an “anti-Doomguy” and the player even had to avoid shooting these Doomguy clones because they’d cost Doomguy’s health as well (Because that’s technically why they’re called “voodoo dolls” to begin with and are how some WADs get to do weird things not even id themselves considered).

THE "DEVIL" OF DOOM

Because if it's not the Icon of Sin, maybe "the Devil" could have been a bigger creature, almost like planet size or even "Hell itself" if you assume that an infinite, reality defying, evil dimension can be its own living entity.

A “planet sized demon” could easily be Doom’s version of Junji Ito’s Remina, like something as a follow up to “Doomguy shoots the BFG10K on Mars to make a hole” and even a nod to TNT Revilution’s first skybox, but with for example an Icon of Sin head attached to Jupiter or something.

So depending on how "eldritch" and giant the "CEO of Hell" would be implied to be, i thought of a boss fight where you're "inside the beast" and combines level puzzle elements with combat.

Visually, it has a weird surreal aesthetic like all the weirdest parts of Hell combined and some new weird elements.

But there's a variety of weak points (Some shootable, others punchable, even some where you jump on top of them like that "Jumpable" enemy idea i wrote before) where the Player fights the beast they're inside in, while avoiding hazards and traps to stay alive.

Maybe there's special artifacts or items (Some unique to this fight) to keep the player closer to their goal.

In general, this idea is inspired by stuff like the classic IOS and Quake's Chthon and Shub fights where the level design is part of defeating the boss (Along with D2RPG having the VIOS or something).

Then there's the seemingly unused "6 archdemons".

Maybe we could even go with the idea that Hell has a lot more "dark lords" because humans will never truly comprehend who rules Hell, as if it was meant to confuse humans.

Meanwhile, John Romero's SIGIL ending text had the phrase "Baphomet was only doing Satan's bidding" and the episode made use of Christopher Lovell's pre-existing "Satanic" artwork.

Also, the “real Devil of Doom” could involve a “ultimate endgame” style level where reality is falling apart and you see different assets of Hell/Earth/Mars/Sentinel Prime/Urdak/etc fused and mixed, while the level has non-euclidean geometry and gravity attached to different surfaces and even the skybox shows different backgrounds fused, to indicate Hell messing up with reality.

ALSO GOD

I think people were already fine with The Father, even if not with the twist of him also being VEGA.

But to think Doomguy technically "kills God" because him and "Satan" were the same thing seems odd.

Maybe this also depends on how people feel about Urdak and whether or not Doom is getting "less Christian" even if the series never tapped that much into "accurate" Biblical references.

THE MECH SUIT

It's something that could have been a super heavy enemy at best, like if Immora's army had mech guys or even if 2016's Hell Guard made a comeback with a tech aesthetic (Yet again, something i wrote in a previous post).

Davoth wearing this armor doesn't really give the idea of being "on pair" with Doomguy.

It's weird because the mech itself makes him bigger than Doomguy but he only has few attacks.

THE NAME "DAVOTH"

The use of the name “Davoth” and one of the concept art knight designs of the Dark Lord could inspire a tall humanoid Immoran knight that references Goliath; So imagine if Immora had a 12 feet tall knight named Davoth and he could be a miniboss or something.

The name itself isn't bad and neither is that "metal heart" thing on his chest, even if it sounds like i'm talking about reusing them for something else.

CHARACTER AND MOTIVATION

Might be getting it wrong, but wasn't he mad that he didn't found immortality or something and that lead to him being betrayed by his own servants?

Because when you think of the idea of Hell, you'd think he could have been "Evil for the sake of it".

May seem weird for a series whose appeal is "badass space marine destroys the ultimate place of evil".

IMMORA

Also something i talked about before but:

The idea of "Hell's heart" being a city with humans seems weird for, again, the place of evil where bad people go where they die.

And the sci-fi aesthetic seems weird, not just because "they painted Urdak red" but because the original games already had an idea of "Hell tech".

(Again, flesh walls with stabbing metal pipes and giant skull with computers inside the sockets)

When you think about it, it's as if Hell only ever had technology just to mock humans; Something in a "God creates, Satan imitates" way.

Even the Cultist Base aesthetic could've worked to suit the "evil technology" idea.

It's part of why i thought 2016 making it that the UAC created cybernetic demons is weird: It might weaken Hell a bit and take away the weirdness that the classic games already presented.

Because even if Hell had armies and stuff that almost put them on the same level as UAC/Sentinel soldiers, it should still have a touch of "evil magic" or as if something was created from a spiteful nature.

Indicating that Hell has a 100% evil "personality" that cannot be reasoned with.

And also, like i said: D2016's multiplayer had cooler demonic armor sets and the Reaper weapon was done dirty when used by the Demonic Troopers.

I thought Immora would work more if it was a "paradise for sinners" where its soldiers were sinners and evil former humans that were more competent than other former humans because they were "rewarded".

Maybe a legit Satanic cult paradise, where its humans are those that betrayed mankind?

And the fact that there's "humans" in Immora could justify them as "evil copies/parodies", so you could make demons that look "humanoid" but are still weird.

WHAT ELSE

It's easy to see that The Ancient Gods shouldn't have been made under a year one season pass release contract.

But i wonder if even without those limitations, things would change that much.

Because Doom was never a "lore bound" series, which is why i think there's an "easy" solution to "bad lore ideas": Just having a new game do things differently, even if they "break lore".

Perhaps the fact we even think of "how to fix the Dark Lord" means there's a somewhat positive impact on the DL existing in general: A reminder that Doom is fun to reinterpret.

Whether it's for fun or because some fans weren't happy with certain things.

One can also see thing as "fans making Doom more epic than it actually is", even if it's not new/caused by new fans when older fans were always doing that too.

"What about the dragon idea?" Maybe make that a seperate monster/boss, even with some homage to the D3 Maledict or even Quake and Hexen or something.

FooSarr did an interesting video about a demonic Wintherin, but i already posted it before.

And semi-related but Bethesda artist Jonah Lobe drew a "demonic" version of the Doomslayer.

Perhaps a criticism is that it factors too much into certain D2016 aspects that made the demons "even more alien than in D3", though this is a prespective worth mentioning in a different post.

Honestly, it feels like there's a lot of ways you can go with "evil Doomguy"; Again, me talking about Doom's "true versatility" even if it's too easy to talk about it than anything actually being made.

At least the idea of Doomguy being put to rest after defeating the main bad guy isn't so bad and i guess his theme song wasn't bad either.

Could have said something about the "final fight" starring the Sentinel army and how Doomguy needed to go to Earth to use the gate to Divum or something but maybe for another post.

When he comes home from patrolling as the sun is just peaking through the skyscrapers, he'll collapse onto the sofa after kicking his muddy boots off at the door. Sixer will hop up onto his chest and snuggle in for a nap until it’s time for breakfast.

“Nothing about this is okay,” Zombieman murmured. He was dangerously close to the girl, the rain cascading down just beyond the awning as her hands brushed over his knuckles before loosely intertwining their fingers.

”But you want this too, don’t you?”

He opened his mouth to refuse, to correct her and tell her she was wrong, but nothing came out. Zombieman was at a loss for words, voice almost stolen by how hard those words hit him. Her eyes glinted with what seemed like sadness, something that pained him to see.

When she leaned up on her toes to kiss him gently, a chaste kiss that did not linger, she did not look surprised when he didn’t react. Just a little disappointed.

”I guess not.”

It hit him harder this time, but this one was lower, tighter - right in his chest. No. He wanted this. He wanted it more than he’d ever known. He wanted her with everything he had, but it felt so wrong at the same time. She was at least seven years younger than him, and yet he found himself in love. He knew this whole thing was so wrong, but it felt even worse that she accepted his self-denial so easily. She pulled away much too soon, his hands almost grabbing onto hers again out of desperation alone, but he felt rooted in place, unable to move or react. Everything felt slow, much too slow, and yet it was all happening much too fast. Everything was slipping through his fingers, and he was letting it happen.

”Sorry for being a bother.”

Her smile was bittersweet, with good will but failing to betray the heartbreak wracking her body. He didn’t follow the girl as she left him alone, wishing for him to but knowing he wouldn’t chase after her.

When she woke up, she wasn’t startled by the absence of the man in her apartment. A dull ache ate at her chest as she woke up slowly, pulling on her uniform. She didn’t eat that morning, she simply packed her things and fit for school. She was too caught up in her thoughts to see Zombieman in the train station, not far from her. Her eyes were a little red and puffy, but mostly unnoticeable. But of course he noticed. He was he cause of it, after all.

The male wanted to place a hand on her shoulder or ruffle her hair like he always did, but something was stopping him. Whether it was shame, anxiety, or some mixture of both, he didn’t know. All he did know was that he wanted to grasp her shoulders and tell her that she was wrong, and that he was just so confused about his emotions and where to place them. And yet he did nothing.

The next train came into the station, and he was the only one on the platform after it left.

She hadn’t seen him for several days, and as sad as she was, she was genuinely worried. She has told her best friend about her current issue, and the other girl encouraged her to talk to him again, telling her that he obviously reciprocated her feelings. And so, she called him.

His phone rang, and he glanced at the screen.

It was her name.

Zombieman gazed at it for a moment, before rolling over on his bed, away from it, feeling a sense of dread and guilt wash over him as the ringing came to a halt.

There was no voice mail.

She screamed, feeling the sharp metal pierce through her hand, nailing her to the wall. There was a panicked cry of her name as Bad sprinted over to her. “Don’t you fucking dare die on me!”

”Ba…d…” She wheezed, choking on her own blood as it leaked from her lips. Some of her vital organs had been severely damaged, barely a sound of pain leaving her when he ripped those metal spikes out of her arms. The teen took her into his arms, mind running in all directions.

“METAL BAT, GET HER TO THE HOSPITAL!”

Child Emperor’s voice cut into his thoughts, but he nodded nonetheless, not caring for his pride or sense of superiority when one of the most treasured people in his life was dying. Bad ran, he ran as fast as he could, and burst into the street, praying to any and every power that she wouldn’t die on him.

”SOMEONE CALL A FUCKING AMBULANCE!”

He didn’t know he was crying until he heard his voice, a desperate shout of fear. He didn’t see Zombieman standing there, frozen, eyes blown wide at the sight of the girl, bloodied and broken. She was barely breathing when her dull eyes met his.

He wasn’t sure if he was relieved or horrified at the very subtle and gentle smile that crossed her lips.

Zombieman made sure that no one would be able to see or hear him as he let tears slip down his cheeks, watching her unconscious face as he monitor recorded her heartbeat, praying to God that it wouldn’t fall flat. She was in critical condition, having received many injuries that would have killed the average person, and having undergone several surgeries. The girl cried in her sleep, little shimmering droplets trailing down her skin. She trembled subtly, but it wasn’t because of the physical strain, it was due to the trauma she had just experienced.

And he hadn’t been there to save her from all this suffering.

“She’s been working hard.”

He froze, hearing a somewhat familiar voice. It was the girl’s best friend. Zombieman felt no reason to hide his tears from her, merely peering at her over his shoulder, silently demanding her to continue.

”She was really sad the next day, but nobody noticed. She’s really good at hiding her feelings when she really wants to. But she was suffering. She took the mission in hopes she could distract herself. This is the result.”

He didn’t dare break the eye contact, knowing the guilt and misery was within his own. A moment passed before the girl next to him, gazing at her friend.

”Please talk to her when she wakes up. She’s been blaming herself incessantly. I can’t stand seeing her like that.”

Blaming herself? Why would she do that if it was his fault for rejecting her? But he nodded once nonetheless. He really needed to do that anyways.

”Hi, Zokkun.” Her smile was tired, so tired, as she stood there in the doorway with one of those plastic smiles she put on to try and reassure the people around her. “I…didn’t think you would be here.”

”We need to talk.”

The teen faltered for a moment, almost looking afraid, before sighing and sitting down next to him on the couch, turning toward him.

”What is it?”

With no warning, he tilted her chin upward, his lips meeting hers. Her eyes widened before her fingers cradled his face, letting him take the reigns as he slipped his tongue into her mouth. Zombieman tasted like cigarettes and coffee, but she didn’t mind it much, one of her hands trailing down to his shirt and gripping it. In return, his free arm wrapped around her waist and pulled her closer, kissing deeper. They had to part for proper breath eventually, but when they did, her fingers raked through his hair as his thumb traced meaningless shapes on her hip.

“I love you.”

The words felt so natural, said softly and under his breath, red eyes boring into hers as she took a moment to let it sink in before she smiled brightly. He rolled his eyes before kissing her again. Her smile was replaced by a shy blush when he brushed his knuckles over her cheek.

It felt wrong, but he could learn to make it feel right.

| Summary: Genos doesn't understand sarcasm sometimes, and for the most part. It's funny, though theyre times he takes it a little TOO seriously. Here are three times, he thought you were serious.

"I wish, with all my might, this homework would... Disappear." You groaned, waving your hands over the books and papers, fingers dancing and jumping at your words. The light breeze swept in, tossing your papers lighting around the room. A bang of hope and panic over took your body, "I can help you with that if you want Y/N." A slight deep monotone voice spoke behind you, jumping at the sound.

A small smile gracing your face, as your boyfriend stood in your door way. His features, (if possible) softened as he looked at you. "Master Saitama, had asked me when was the last time I saw you. I couldn't recall, so I am paying a visit." He spoke, his eyebrows raising at you, your figure walking towards him.

"Thank you, but I'm joking, I don't need my papers too disappear. But I'm happy you're here though." Wrapping your arms around his waist, the coolness from him soothing your mind.

"Alright, just let me know if you want the homework gone. I'll end it's entire existence."

"I know you would, but I'm joking sweet."

"Genos, why is there a hole in my wall?"

"You said you wanted this wall gone, since you kept stubbing your toe on it." He said, deadpan, as he spoke with a matter fact tone. The floor covered in bits of white paint, and debris from the smashed wall, "Babe, I was joking. It was sarcasm, but I appreciate you doing that for me."

"Oh, you're welcome, Id do anything to keep your toes safe." He turned around, grabbing a broom and dust pan to sweep up the mess.

The blue apron with red and white kittens making you giggle, "At least I own this place, that being the downside.. I OWN this place," You whispered to yourself, your body jerking when you saw Saitama sitting casually on the couch.

"Oh hey, what are you doing here? Want some chips?"

"Saitama, when.. Its MY house. And yes, I want some chips." You spoke, walking over to him, his face showing shock at remembering, that you do indeed own this house. Grabbing a handful of chips from the bag, "Why didnt you stop him?"

"I actually walked in right when he had his blasters aimed at the wall, asked him what he was doing, said he was and I quote "Going to make this wall pay for harming my love." Told him, why doesn't he just kick the wall out."

"You couldn't have told him, NOT to do that though?"

"Eh, I don't think the wall should be there, needs more open space," Saitama spoke with a dead tone, looking back to the TV, a neutral expression on his face.

"He called me, my love?"

A small frown graced your features, small wrinkles forming in your forehead. Genos stood in front of you, his hands clasped together in front of his body.

"Can you explain this?"

"It's gone, you wanted it gone."

"Genos, baby. I was joking, sure I wanted my boss gone because he IS a dick, but.. where is he?"

"I have a feeling that you will become angry," Genos said, if it wasn't for the fact he was half robot, he would sweating profusely.

A sigh leaving your mouth, you had a feeling he may have killed him. But you didn't want to believe it, or accept it. Your boss of 3 years had been a dick, yes. A misogynistic? Absolutely. Rude? Yes. Had he been accused (and it being confirmed) of sexual misconduct? ABSOLUTELY.

And that was the final straw for you, Genos had known about your boss. And maybe, you had let it slip that you wished, "He would just disappear."

And here you both were, your boss hadnt shower up for work for now, a week. Now, you were suspicious.

"I was going to kill him, but Master Saitama told me to just scare him till he shits his pants. So I did, and then he left, I'm not sure where he is now."

You stood there, your shoulders slumping. Turning around and leaving the room, "You're mad."

"Kind of, but hopefully the next boss isn't a sleazeball."
