4. What's your favorite line of dialogue?

It's hard to pick a single favorite, but this is one of them. (Im using the term "line of dialogue" loosely, as you can see lol)

Zoe raised an eyebrow. “Can’t we get mad at him when it’s his fault we have no way of contacting Veronica and Heather?”

“Hey!” Jared stabbed a finger at her. “You didn’t grab the stupid flares either, Shit Princess!”

“I didn’t think you’d forget something as important as our rescue signal! Forgive me for having faith in you for once!”

5. What part was hardest to write?

Aside from uneventful traveling and hordes as I mentioned, I think getting Rich's distrust of Jeremy across was harder simply because I spent the least time in his head out of all the Survivors. Like. It's there. But I feel like I could've emphasized it more in other ways.

Rich made slow work of getting ammo and supplies together as Jake fought with a piss poor internet connection, finding his eyes following Jeremy more than normal. He found himself doing that a lot since the whole cleaver thing at Whispering Oaks, and even more since finding out Jeremy was a carrier. He just… Rich couldn’t keep his back turned to him for very long at a time. He watched his mouth whenever Michael or the Elevator Incident could’ve been brought up, not risking breaking the camel’s back and giving Jeremy a reason - an excuse - to turn on him.

“What?” Jared pouts. It might work better if it wasn’t over FaceTime, on Evan’s secondhand iPhone, propped up against his thirdhand laptop. “I was going to say ‘suck eggs for their grandmas.’”

“No, you weren’t.”

“Whatever.”

Hey, before I go, I wanted to know: did you check with Jared Kalwani — the genius sound tech Jared Kalwani — to see if he can hang out? ‘Cause I have no doubt he’d be a great friend to me too —

“Okay, no, Jared.” Evan hits Ctrl-A and deletes the half-written email. “That doesn’t work.”

“That was a literary masterpiece. How does it not work?”

“Well, the rehab stuff is, it’s too depressing.”

“Yeah. It’s rehab.”

“The Murphys won’t want to read it. And you can’t keep trying to write yourself in. This is, like, the third time.”

“Why do you insist on it being all shiny happy codependency? Your friendship was so special and perfect that he didn’t even want to talk to anyone else?”

“Yes. That’s the story. We were best friends. I was his only friend.” Evan scratches his left arm, no longer broadcasting the best possible proof of that story. “You can’t just change it.”

“Uh-huh.” Jared’s eyes move over him, and Evan can tell he saw the scratching. “You do remember how this story ends, right?”

“What do you mean?”

“Evan,” Jared says. “Dude. Connor’s dead. And it’s not because his life was going great. Everyone knows that.”

“So?”

“So people will expect to read the tormented musings of a guy in a downward spiral. Not rainbows and butterflies and tree facts to the very end. Maybe they haven’t thought of it yet, but they’ll get there.”

“That’s awful.”

“That’s the human condition. Rubbernecking and being glad it’s not you.”

“Just because you decided to put the emails online —”

“Because Alana told me to, after you begged me to run the Connor Project website —”

“It’s not that simple, okay? Things are messy and complicated, it’s, recovery is nonlinear —”

“Oh, good, someone’s reading the Mental Health Resources page after all. And here I told our glorious co-founder it was a waste of server space.”

“I just want to help the Murphys,” Evan says. That’s all he’s wanted to do, from the moment Mrs. Murphy first mentioned the orchard. It has to be. “That’s the point of all this. I don’t care what people online think.”

“You mean the people giving you all that money to build an orchard for Connor? You’re sure you don’t care what they think? Only about cheering up your fake family and your very real girlfriend?”

“I told you, we’re not — Zoe and I are just friends.”

“Totally. You’ve got a lot of friends these days.”

ohhhhh anon you are getting an essay from me LMFAOOO. for a bit of context: im a HUGE musical theatre fan and i was a massive fan during the 2016-2017 period of broadway where a HUGE influx of younger fans were getting drawn in so of course i listened to the soundtrack a ton. but after a bit i looked back at it and sort of understood a lot of its flaws in the base script/lyrics, and upon watching the australian dear evan hansen it became superrrr clear again imo!

ill put my long winding essay down below just because its pretty negative :) and, of course, long and winding

so there are some veryyyyyy distinct issues with the text of dear evan hansen, which i will TRY to pull apart into seperate categories just to make this a bit easier LMFAO.

TONE: tonally, this show is a MESS. it wants to both be a comedy musical while also having very heartfelt discussions around topics of mental health and suicide. in my opinion, while TRICKY, this CAN be done successfully, but was not handled well here. the switch between tone is far too jarring-- in one scene you'll have cynthia mourning her son who just committed suicide, desperate for any information that could connect her to her late child, reaching out to cling onto evan once she sees the cast that connor had signed before his passing. and then it IMMEDIATELY cuts to jared making a sex joke like im not kidding. these moments of grief and seriousness dont get time to breathe before they bring jared in or make connors ghost sing a funny song about not being gay

i know that an argument can be made that this show is supposed to be a "dark comedy"-- even if it was it wasnt done well, but as a whole it's actually not supposed to be a dark comedy. the suicide of connor murphy, evan hansens debilitating anxiety, and the mental wellbeing of these characters are placed in the centre of this show as its primary message. this is a show that marketed itself as being THE mental health show, that brought these issues to light and brings a powerful message about "not being alone". the writers of this show want you to take it very seriously. there are some very well written moments within this text (in my opinion a lot of the arguments the murphys have are well paced, good dialogue, especially towards the end before words fail) but it loses so much of its impact because its shoved in between these scenes of forced levity. so so much of that is the fault of jared as a character but thats a whole other essay

it's an extremely indecisive show over all, and you are going to see that throughout this essay: this show doesnt want to fully commit to one thing, but rather dabble in tinier, vague concepts and never truly go all the way.

MENTAL HEALTH: i am not going to deny that in 2016-2017 when this show was immensely popular, it DID start some sort of discussion. this show did have a very positive impact, specifically on a young demographic, because it did open up avenues for them to discuss issues such as this. at the time there were hardly any musicals targeted towards that demographic, and hardly any musicals that discussed mental health at all (besides shows like next to normal, but they were never that huge with the younger generation). for a young person, or anybody really, to resonate with a show concerning topics of anxiety and suicide is a great thing, and i am not trying to diminish the impact of this show at the time.

but the message of mental health is a very shallow one upon rewatch, unfortunately. as mentioned before, they are SO CLOSE to delving into interesting topics but never want to fully commit to anything. zoe and her opinion of her late brother is a FASCINATING topic that gets swept up in evans lie. we hardly hear much discussion about connors anger issues or mental health topics that are deemed less "palatable"-- in fact, very rarely does this show discuss the elements of mental health that can be seen as less palatable to a wider audience. it NEARLY does, it VERGES on those specific discussions, but never wants to linger too much. or it is fully treated as a joke (connor smokes pot, which can very easily be read as a form of self-medication as the murphys were struggling to stick to a single form of help for him. him smoking is ALWAYS a joke however. this is NOT explicit in the text).

not to mention, its clear that some topics were not well researched or even well examined within the text. i really really loved how the australian alana (carmel rodrigues) portrayed her (i very personally think she played alana as being autistic or at least neurodivergent) however she has a single throwaway line about how she felt invisible and then never mentions this again. this needed to be built up to a LOT better. evan STOPS TAKING HIS MEDICATION during act 2, claiming he "doesnt need them", and it is NEVER mentioned whether or not he starts taking them again. and while medication is a varied topic from person to person, and not everybody has or even wants to take them, the show has framed evan not taking his meds as a personal triumph, in which his life has finally "gotten better" to the point he doesnt need to take them anymore. for many many people this is not the case, especially with anxiety.

the core message of the show, "you are not alone", is also rather hollow. it's a good marketing point and its a great hashtag for the dear evan hansen team to spread on social media but it isn't extremely nuanced. dont get me wrong, sometimes a show doesnt HAVE to be extremely nuanced in a way a show like next to normal is, but to frame your show as THE mental health show with the aim to discuss these topics of suicide and depression seriously (rather than unseriously, like heathers), then it needs to be treated wayyy more carefully. saying "oh if youre sad then just reach out for help", while an okay message for a young audience, isnt very groundbreaking and in fact can come off as a little corny upon rewatch ("you will be found" felt verrrry very cheesy when i watched it live)

THE ANTI-HERO: evan is a teenager who severely fucks up. TREMENDOUSLY. and even though the marketing of this show i think has actually let evan down a little bit in regards to his personality, it isnt JUST due to the fact he has social anxiety. sure, this greatly impacts him and his decisions, but there are many moments within the show where he explicitly states his motives for why he did what he did. he is an awkward, LONELY teenager. while his anxiety not to speak up may have landed him in his situation in the first place, ultimately it is evans desperate need for human connection and family that compels him to keep this lie going.

and in a rather traditional narrative, his schemes would be framed as properly sinister. while he doesnt necessarily have MALICIOUS intentions, he still acts very selfishly and with little foresight. the lies keep piling on and piling on and he feels as though he can not reveal himself, but also he doesnt WANT to. he doesnt want to let everything go, even if he is very VERY in the wrong. this is selfish. and a character can BE selfish!

but while the narrative clearly paints evan as being in the wrong, he is NEVER supposed to be the "villain". nothing he does is truly conveyed as sinisterly as it actually is, and it gets SINISTER. ultimately we are supposed to be ROOTING for evan, as he is meant to represent the core themes of this show: mental health. even if he gets found out we are NEVER shown "true" consequences besides the murphy family getting kind of upset at him and asking him to leave during his song "words fail" where he tells them he used to be so sad and lonely before all of this and thats why he did what he did. it then cuts to him and his mom, where the discussion mostly revolves around HIS mental health and his suicide attempt rather than what he had just done to the murphys. finally after that scene we go to the finale many months later, where the consequences are hardly implied, and its even stated that evan got off LIGHTLY for what he did as the murphys never revealed who wrote connors note. yknow, the note that the entire internet was using as means to harass and dox that grieving family not too long ago

he is never treated as if he is completely in the wrong, and always given that core theme of mental health to hide behind. and because they dont want to discuss the more "unappealing" elements of mental health, or theyre too scared to imply that his anxiety is "making him the villain", evans actions ultimately are forgiven by the narrative.

evan and his family friend dance around the room, creating fake emails for a kid who killed himself in order to fool his mourning parents into believing the two of them were friends. evan stands in front of the school and gives a speech about how much him and connor were friends (even when they werent), and then spearheads a mental health campaign in connors name, all under the pretense that he KNEW and CARED for connor. he, a STRANGER, frequently goes over to the murphys house and allows them to treat him like a pseudo-son, nearly to the point where he accepts a college trust fund from them, which was meant for connor. he LIES to connors sister-- who was having very complicated opinions about connor due to his abuse towards her-- and convinces her that connor actually cared about her the entire time, practically forcing her to view her abusive brother as a better person than he was. and then evan DATES HER.

which brings me to my next and final point--

ZOE: god zoe. she makes me so unbelievably sad. WHY did evan have to have a love interest.

zoe could have been such a fascinating and intriguing character if she was handled with far more care than she had been. connor murphy was very explicitly stated to have been verbally abusive to her and likely physical as well, and at the beginning of the show she is rightly upset with him. she doesnt mourn him for his good parts because to her she doesnt KNOW any good parts. she tells evan that "the last time she can remember connor being nice to her was in his suicide note", which EVAN wrote. zoe was by no means obligated to mourn her brother, but was frequently encouraged (especially by cynthia) to do so, to find the good parts of him to remember. this complicated relationship with grief is fascinating

but evan has a crush on her, and thats when everything starts going downhill. he starts lying to her about what connor had told her ("if i could tell her" is a very creepy song coming from a brother but thats yet again a whole other post HGJKF) and plants false memories of him inside her head. that is FUCKED UP!! he is giving this poor girl, who is battling with her conflicted feelings towards her late abusive brother, false reasons to think fondly of him and invalidating every reason she had to feel anger towards him. because this show wants so desperately for the message to be that "nobody deserves to be forgotten", without any sort of nuance whatsoever, even if the person that died had been terrible to you.

and then they start dating. they start dating, all based on the lies evan had told zoe. before they kiss zoe says "you gave me my brother back", which is a HEARTBREAKING thing to hear from her given what we as the audience know, but this is NOT conveyed NEARLY as sinister as it is actually is. we witness evan be extremely, EXTREMELY selfish, and for the first time this can not be blamed on his anxiety like most other events in act 1 could. this was evan wanting to get with zoe, and it seemingly fell into his lap after he conned this family into believing he knew their estranged, late son. that is horrifying! zoe does not get NEARLY mad enough at him once he tells the murphys the truth! zoe doesnt get any time at all to shine in act 2!!

how absolutely mortifying would it be to realise that the person you were dating is a complete and utter stranger to you! he had been impersonating somebody and staying in your house, sleeping over, DATING you, all under entirely false pretences. and how absolutely mortifying would it be to realise that everything you thought you had finally learned about your brother was a lie? you had finally come to terms with accepting your late brother for his good parts only to realise that all of those alleged "good parts" werent actually true at all?? zoe would practically have to grieve ALL OVER AGAIN. the murphys would have to grieve their son TWICE. this is NEVER touched on. evan does not experience the consequences for this nearly as much as he should, and zoe is not given this resolution or nuance.

if this was done with a little more care this could have been GOOD. this was a terrible, terrible thing evan did. their romance should have always been framed as such. "only us" should not have been written as this charming cute romantic love song. given what the audience knows it is impossible to view this relationship as pure, which is what the writers had intended, and we are all sitting in our seats waiting for the ball to finally drop and this poor girl to finally realise who she is dating. its horrifying! and it doesnt get treated as such!

because ultimately evan is the hero and evan is the person you are supposed to be rooting for, regardless of his actions. ive seen a few arguments saying that this is intentional, that songs like "you will be found" are SUPPOSED to be sinister and hollow because evan is "tricking all of them", but the truth is that was never the writers intention. they wouldnt have made that song their entire marketing campaign if it was supposed to be seen as malicious. the writers were never willing to fully commit to anything, making this show as a whole underbaked and tonally inconsistent.

TLDR; the show has a hollow message and wants to be many different things at once but ultimately succeeds in none of it

from what i remember, evan and connor do not wear the same jacket in for forever reprise :( connor wears the same thing throughout the whole show which kind of disapponted me but it was only a small thing

sincerely me was the best visually !! pretty sure they used choreography from the movies sincerely me which was the only part of the movie that i liked so yeah :) good stuff

connor literally blew evan a kiss and then evan caught it and put it in his pocket. i know what you are. they were also alot more touchy w each other than the broadway edition like dancing w each other, hugging hand holding etc. it was great lol big win for treebros enjoyers

THE SETS WERE AMAZING.. so much more vibrant and detailed !! during the video calls between evan and jared, jared has an rgb pc gamer setup and i think thats so in character

more on the sets, the murphys kitchen set had cupboards, a kitchen counter and fridge as well as the dinner table set which i thought was really cool

there were extras to make the school scenes feel more full which i loved (they had choreography for wtaw and ywbf and it was very bmc broadway esque /pos)

jared pretended to aggressively jerk off against a locker when he makes his iconic entrance which is smth that stuck in my mind for some reason

all of zoes outfits absolutely devoured

all of theirs did tbh. giving everyone in the costume department a big fat kiss

speaking of costumes, evan wears lots of red in act 2 which i see as a win for kleinsen nation

during sincerely me reprise connor and jared straight up slam their pelvises together. i swear to god they were a millimetre away from actual dick on dick contact but tbh i was sat super high up so they couldve actually touched idk. but i know kleinphy nation is struggling so i thought id mention this

after jared calls connor a freak and walks off, connor turns and glares at him. jared then shits himself and scampers off stage which i thought was really funny

during evans speech, zoe cynthia and larry were sat off to the side watching him. cynthia started tearing up and zoe takes her hand and comforts her and i just. oughhh murphy family bonding save me

evans version of connor was so lively and bouncy !! the first time we see him he literally springs out from behind the kitchen counter evan is sat at

evan during words fail was so devastating. hearing the way he sobbed after the murphys walk off stage was broke my heart :(

when fake connor confronts him on how he broke his arm he sounded so small. pretty sure i heard his voice break

overall incredible show !! probably one of my favourite versions that ive seen. this is everything i can remember right now but i will add more if i remember anything else. thanks for giving me the opportunity to talk about it !!

Welcome to Virtue

So I cannot sing the praises of Murphy Lawless (in this case writing as Zoe Chant) as an author enough. I thoroughly enjoyed the Gladiator Shifters books, but coming back to the beginning of the Virtue Shifters series, I was absolutely delighted. Why? The writing, for one, but for this book specifically? The main character is a mid-30s single mother with a four year old. I was PSYCHED to have an FMC who wasn't 20 with a mint-condition uterus. (See, Miss America Pageant??? Women who are older and who have kids are AWESOME and have VALUE.) As a 30-something myself who has been rapidly noticing her protagonists seem younger by the year, this was a breath of fresh air and a delightful change.

And ngl, hot late-30s guy with washboard abs who the four year old trusts and loves? Excuse me while I fangirl squee over how awesome this is. Let's talk Timber Wolf.

Mabs and Noah Brannigan escape Noah's deadbeat, dickhead sperm donor to live in an inherited heritage home in Virtue--an old, New England shifter town. Unfortunately, the home is in desperate need of restoration and Mabs is basically broke and trying to DIY something that really and truly needs a professional while wrangling an almost supernaturally active four year old.

Thats about when Jake Rowly rocks back into town nursing a broken heart and kickass carpentry skills. He and Mabs are aggressively set up by a mutual friend, and the pair work together to restore the house and make it safe for Mabs and Noah to live in.

When Mabs's ex shows up looking to either take her back or take Noah away from her, Jake is standing firmly behind Mabs, letting her find the confidence that her gaslighting dickhead of an ex did his best to quash, and protecting Noah. And as a fun side effect of all of this, they manage to uncover a murderous realtor and a literal fortune stuffed inside an old mattress that neatly solves Mabs's financial troubles.

Groundbreaking? Not particularly. Fun? Absolutely. Warm and cozy? You bet! If ever you want a snuggly romance that isn't a couple of single twenty-somethings, this is a great one to start with. I particularly love that despite the genre, Mabs is over here rebuilding her own confidence with support, rather than having Jake's existence just magic it back. Their conversations about what Mabs does and does not want Jake to do are amazing and really sweet. Not to mention the situational comedy of trying to fall in love while keeping things G-rated for the rambunctious child in the house that this book does beautifully.

I rarely have a lot to say about the Virtue Shifter books, but thats more because they're adorable and snuggly and I adore them than anything else. So if you're looking for a cozy shifter romance, you cannot go wrong by picking up this series.

Ok so I finally watched Dear Evan Hansen the movie like, 3 years after it came out (I know I know I’m late) but I feel like my review may be worth sharing so here it is… 3 years later :)

Dead Evan Hansen (2021) Directed by Stephen Chbosky

TW!! Mentions of depression, su!cide and anxiety

⚠️SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT ⚠️

Dead Evan Hansen is a six time Tony award winning musical that was adapted from the book by Steven Levenson that’s has since been adapted again into a movie.

The story is about Evan Hansen that struggles with depression and social anxiety that is so bad he can even order pizza on his own. He has an assignment from his therapist to write an encouraging letter to himself. Somehow that letter ends up in the hands of Conner Murphy, the school outcast. Assuming that this was some joke letter for Conner to find (because of some mentions of his sister Zoe) he takes it and it’s seen for a few days. Turns out Conner committed suicide and his family assume that the letter that he had was his last note for Evan, leading them to believe that Evan is Conners “best and most dearest friend”. For the rest of the story Evan has to keep up this facade of being Conners friend to keep the peace.

I totally recommend watching the movie, musical, reading the book, or listening to the soundtrack to fully get the story if you don’t already.

I did take some notes about the movie while I was watching it so here are a few:

Characters

Evan:

Quite an interesting character in terms of the decisions he makes. In every iteration he ends up going all in on lying to not only Conner ms Family but also the friends that he makes AND his mom. For most of the move she doesn’t even know what the Murphy’s were doing for Evan. A lot of people (myself included) don’t think that someone with this severe of anxiety would pull some stunt like this and keep it going for so long. I think he would have ended it sooner but that’s just my opinion.

Conner:

What’s so interesting about Conner in every retell of this story is that we don’t even know what he’s like. Like at all. We only know the fabricated Conner that Evan makes up for the same of his lie. He’s only on screen as the real real Conner for what 25-30 mins of the entire movie? We get so see a little bit of Conner through Mrs. Murphy but it’s only what she remembers of him. (I’m fully convinced she’s a “boy mom” but that’s just me) I have no idea if Conners character gets fleshed out in the books, but from everything else he basically is an anonymous person that we as a fandom have actually created also and I think that’s kinda the whole point of the character.(wow props to the author for real)

Alana:

I really love Alana’s characterization in this movie. Her being so dedicated to her cause of making people feel known and loved because she also feels that way is honestly kinda beautiful. Actually she was so committed to it that she shared what she thought was Conners last letter to Evan on instagram, just to get some money for ‘The Conner Project’(mental health awareness project). Her new song ‘ Anonymous Ones’ also adds to her motives also I think.

Zoe:

Zoe is Conners sister but, it definitely feels like she doesn’t like being his sister. For the majority of the story she talks down on Connor even after realizing everything that he went through, she still asked Evan to stop talking about Conner as they started dating. (which I think was the start of Evan’s downfall—like he is literally immersed in the Murphys life as their new son and he almost forgets about him.) Like I said she does have some kind of emotional breakthrough in ‘You will be found’ but that got overrides quite quickly. It makes sense though, she didn’t have the greatest relationship with Connor, and even after he died. It was only after Evan admitted to the less when she really felt the gravity of the situation which I thought was a good point to add(or maybe I’m over thinking it and it wasn’t intentional who knows 🤷🏾‍♀️)

The Adults (Mr and Mrs Murphy & Ms Hansen):

The adults play an interesting role in this story, mostly because they aren’t the main focus not even the Murphys. Evan’s struggle with being truthful is the main point of the story, but all of the adults kind of aid his points of progress. Ms Hansen acting as the voice of reason and the Murphys being a constant reminder of Evan’s lie.

Mrs Murphy is fully convinced from the start that Evan was Connor’s friend because of her attachment to him. We learn in this film that even when he was going through substance abuse and extreme aggression, she was still holding on to the younger Connor. That’s where her version of Connor comes from. Mr Murphy seems the be the least phased about Connor’s death besides Zoe, at least at first. Then during the scene that replaced ‘To break in a glove’ he breaks down reminiscing about Connor’s younger years, he finally lets himself feel the grief of loosing his son.

Ms Hansen doesn’t even know what is going on in her son’s life but she is still quite supportive of him. She encourages him to genuinely make friends and to take his therapy assignments seriously because she wants to see him grow.

The Movie

Ok the real reason I wanted to take a look at and review this movie is because of the public backlash it is getting. I’ve seen a lot of things saying that it was bad because of either the performances, the casting choices (particularly Ben Platt reprising his role as Evan looking like a grown man) or even just the characterization. My honest opinion, it’s kinda good, and I’m not saying that just because I biased to musicals (even though I am-). I’m of the idea that real stories are good stories. Why don’t think that the musical received 6 Tony awards? The movie follows the musical quite closely, give or take a few songs and other things(even though I think ‘good for you’ should have stayed because it really brings to light how Evan lying to like everyone really affected people instead of watering it down like the movie yes Evan does realize the gravity of the situation and try to find people that actually knew Connor but it’s not the same). Many of the things that people don’t like about the film were already in the musical. Most people didn’t like Evan’s decision to continue the lie, some of the apathy coming from Zoe, the demonization(for lack of a better word) of Connor’s mental illness, etc. The thing is all of the elements were already in the musical. Even if this was a stand alone film, it’s still ok cause like I said I think that real stories are good stories. All of the feelings that Zoe feels, the decisions Evan makes(albeit slightly out of character) everything is a reflection of real emotions and that is pretty cool to me. So dislike it all you want but it is what it is🤷🏾‍♀️ [as for the other songs it was fine without them but I still think they should have been included because they help push the story forward.

Yea the Musical is obviously better and yea the movie itself could have use some work and some casting changes(I’m looking at you Ben Platt—a grown man playing a 17/18 y/o—i mean if you want to change the whole cast and not bring the OBC back COMMIT) but it’s not as bad as it could been. And believe me there are plenty bad musical to movie productions.

This movie is equally hilarious) ⦁ Solo: A Star Wars Story 2018 (There are so many Star Wars movies and I enjoyed all of them but there are just too many to mention) ⦁ Star Trek 2009 (A solid movie in my opinion and a great franchise) ⦁ Letters To Juliet 2010 (I got to see this in the cinema and thought it was such a sweet rom-com) ⦁ Thor Ragnarok 2017 (Yes, I liked the first Thor movie, but I liked Ragnarok more)

We have finally reached a conclusion! Phew, it felt like that list went on forever! That was my version of memorable movies to watch, and I am quite satisfied with my selection. I added a lot more older movies to my list because I felt like they were better back then. Every new release that I've watched recently has fallen short of my expectations, the quality is just not the same as it was back then. Every time I watch a new movie it just feels like something is missing. Maybe my standards are just too high. I will say I am picky person when it comes to what I watch and invest my time in hence I've decided to stay away from films for now. I will stick to watching tv shows and hopefully 2024 has better options for us this year. If a new movie does however pique my interest, I will be sure to rave about it to everyone.

HII omg dont be !! pls feel free to send stuff whenever !! ok so i have TONS of connor hc’s ( i’ve been writing as him & for him for years now ) but here’s my faves + the ones that are usually present in my art . ( gotta mention that some are very personal & self indulgent bc i see myself in connor a LOT 😭 ) tw for a quick mention of razors .

- i made a post abt this hc here but i’m adding it because it’s the main reason why i use a certain color for connor’s hair , & that is that connor is a ginger ( just like zoe & cynthia ) & he dyes his hair a darker color so he doesn’t look much like them ( & he doesn’t get associated with zoe much at school ) he usually uses a dark brown or even black , but it’s usually very sloppy so his hair ends up being patchy in some areas or just not dark enough .

- connor uses he / they pronouns mostly bc they’re very detached to his gender identity because they don’t feel human most of the time . connor looks in the mirror & doesn’t think ‘ boy ‘ , most of the time he thinks ‘ failure ‘ , ‘ disappointment ‘ , ‘ monster ‘ . he’s also unlabeled & mostly finds male presenting ppl attractive but has been with female presenting ppl a few times . EVAN, 17. Desperate to be seen, noticed, to prove he’s not a loser to his dad and to everyone else. Has never had a girlfriend, never spoken really to a girl. Not good at much. Afraid of life. He works at a coffee shop (or restaurant) after school to make money. He’s always been in love with Becca.

EVAN’S BEST FRIEND, 17. Fellow loser. Funny. Bossy. Jonah Hill to Michael Cera.

BECCA, 16. Love interest. Junior. Younger sister of deceased. Great student, great person, destroyed by the news of her brother’s death and even more destroyed by the insipid response to it by people who barely knew him. She comes to think Evan is the only one who understands her, and who truly shares her pain.

EVAN’S DAD. Checked out. Has a new young family. He’s been hit hard by the recession and no longer has the money to bankroll Evan’s college education.

EVAN’S MOM. Working hard to make ends meet, but a bit of a wreck. Too frazzled to notice Evan.

AMERICAN HISTORY TEACHER. The voice of reason. New to school, new to Portland. Recent college grad maybe? Believes in hard work and discipline, not interested in telling students how special they are. Unimpressed by Evan.

ENGLISH TEACHER. Terrible. Crunchy.

My unpopular opinion about this character: this isn’t really unpopular anymore (i don’t think?) but i hate innocent smol bean uwu Christine. i hate the fandomized Christine. LET HER SAY CUSS WORDS, LET HER MAKE SEXUAL JOKES, AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LET THAT GIRL DO HER BOWLING ALLEY PERFORMANCE ART!!!!!!

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: this one is tough, hmm. tbh i would have liked to see some of her other more interests that she mentions in that line in I Love Play Rehearsal (“i’ve got so many interests i wanna pursue, and why’m i telling this to you?”) (sidenote: if she mentioned some in canon and i simply forgot, pleeeease tell me :3)

my crossover ship: i don’t do much crossover shipping, but my friend got me sold on Alana Beck from DEH/Christine, as well as Zoe Murphy from DEH/Christine

a headcanon fact: she has a bunch of those little erasures that look like animals and food and stuff :3
