15. Do you have any unpopular opinions about DAV so far?

I'm not sure if this is unpopular but there's definitely a variety of opinions - personally I'm not mad about the art style. It definitely is different, but so was DAI from DA2, and DA2 from DAO. So I'm not concerned about it, and certainly not as an indicator of the game's quality otherwise.

17. Are you interested in all the lore and speculation or do you focus more on the games and stories themselves?

I am not super up on the lore outside of the games themselves but I very much enjoy reading the speculations and extrapolations of people who know more than I do. :D

TBH I used to be way deep in it all but I've been checked out of DA for a number of years now. It will definitely take a while to get caught back up on everything. :D

19. Are you planning to replay any of the previous games, watch Dragon Age: Absolution, or read any of the books/comics/short stories, or are there other games you want to play in the meantime?

While I would love to do another full playthrough before VG comes out, I doubt that I will; I have too much stuff I want to do in the Baldur's Gate sphere still. XD So that will continue taking the majority of my time. So I'm planning to make use of my existing three worldstates and that should cover me for the time being.

I do need to sit down and read Tevinter Nights, though, to get some extra context on some of the companions. :D

social circle for afhiri? 💖

Social Circle: What's your OC's social circle? Are they obligated to spend time with others in their circle, or are they happy to be there? Has their social standing and social circle ever changed, and if so, how did your OC feel about it?

afhiri's only social circle would be the companions!

they are very, very happy to be there, and love to be around them. afhiri spends so much time writing and performing songs for them, doing things to make them happy, showing neverending care, despise it likely coming across as annoying for certain members (shadowheart, lae'zel, astarion).

after the ends of the game everyone goes their own way, some together, some not. afhiri remains with gale but even they spend lots of time apart as their lives without this adventure are so different, as are their goals and wants.

afhiri is sad about it, she loved having a found family that she made all for herself. she misses her clown troupe, and had hoped they'd stay together forever. afhiri was afraid during the events of the game, she wasn't worried or concerned, the tadpole didn't frighten her, they didn't feel threatened. they were happy they had friends for the first time in their life.

i think it’s meant to prevent the bread from molding? it’s smth my partner’s family always did but i never did it growing up. we do it now bc ramza insists on it but i do think it makes the bread go stale like way faster LMAO

​Oh, that makes sense actually! Didn't even think about the mold aspect of bread, and I'm sure the bread drying out and going stale helps prevent mold too 🙈

So I wanted to play around with why Isoldt chose to keep her Netherstone in Bloodthirst/the weapon’s origin based on its in-game description and my own headcanon. I know a lot of people like to hc that their durge kept the stone somewhere else, but the dagger really fits Isoldt’s character. This fic is another part of my ongoing (durgetash heavy, i need to get them out of my head) durge backstory.

Two very unpolished excerpts because I’m making some progress on the first draft

This dagger is as much a work of art as it is a weapon. The savage curve of the blade will savor each cut, while the gilded hilt fits comfortably in her hand. There is little weight to it but what it needs for proper balance. 

It is a drop of blood turned steel, violence made manifest. She will use it to carve an ending for the world. She will use it to compose a symphony of death.

And:

“I’m not your pet,” she reminds him, her voice as sharp as the dagger she now holds. 

Isoldt slides a flat hand up the blade, testing its steel. As expected, the knife bites back, slicing a red slit into her skin. She licks herself clean, but he catches her wrist once she is through.  

“That you are not.” He turns her wrist around in his hand, blood still dribbling from the fresh cut. The thin wound is deeper than she could have anticipated. A fine weapon indeed.

Excluding murder, what is the worst thing your OC has ever done?

Hmmmmm. There was definitely all that petty thievery from all the jerks in Baldur's Gate. :P From a legal standpoint that's probably the top of the list.

From his own moral standpoint, he probably would for a long time have said all the time he spent traveling with a Sharran and saving her life and stuff. On some level that was mostly resolved by her turning out to be a Selunite in the long run, but ultimately his own perspective also changed and became a lot wider and more accepting overall.

4. What appears in your OC's darkest nightmares?

I think Hector primarily slept without dreams at the monastery. He only starts having nightmares, or dreams at all really, out on the road, and the nightmares almost all feature some variant of the worm going into his eye. [shudders]

Later on, he also definitely have nightmares about Karlach's impending death - either because of the engine or other things.

5. What is your OC's moral code?

All of Hector's training in the monastery focused around altruism - deep internal control and asceticism while focusing on doing good for others. This pretty much persists once he is out in the wider world, although the definition of "doing good" becomes a lot more broad and involves a lot more violence than it used to, and his own emotional control becomes a lot more complicated.

Excluding murder, what is the worst thing your OC has ever done?

Surprisingly, there isn't a lot of competition for this title. All the murder stands rather distantly ahead of pretty much any other behavior Rakha exhibits in terms of awfulness.

The two top contenders, off the top of my head, are breaking Lae'zel's heart and explodifying an ancient piece of Lathandrian architecture (which admittedly also involved murder).

4. What appears in your OC's darkest nightmares?

Blood. Blood. Blood. Blood. Blood. Blood.

To be honest I'm not sure Rakha dreams of anything else other than what the beast puts into her head.

5. What is your OC's moral code?

This one is honestly kind of interesting.

Rakha came out of the nautiloid with zero context for anything. She was a complete blank slate with, at best, an animal need for survival. Her moral code, such as it is, has grown over time based on what she has seen her companions do, what they've said, and how they've responded to her behavior.

This has honestly been one of the most interesting parts of writing her - seeing which bits stick as puzzle pieces in the image of herself that she's building up over time.

Fundamental tenets of her moral code so far:

Attack with purpose, and savor your kills.

Those who share your struggle are not targets.

Those who hurt others can be killed without guilt.

Magic is the only true beauty of the world and must be valued and protected.

Everything else is still a little fluid but she's starting to figure things out bit by bit. :D

10. What would your Tav consider to be their greatest skill? Is this accurate?

His ability to be helpful, in whatever capacity that he can. It's what he's always done, and he's surprisingly good at filling whatever hole needs filling (DO NOT! you know what I mean). I think his actual greatest skill is being able to see people, to empathize with them and meet them where they're at, to make them feel like the most important person in the world at that moment. The way he's able to connect with those around him and be genuinely liked and trusted is something special, I think.

11. What would your Tav consider to be their greatest flaw? Is this accurate?

This is a tricky one bc there are so many things where he feels like he falls short. His spellcasting is lacking. He's a terrible druid. He's not as smart or skilled as others in his field(s). He's never doing enough or all the he could. He's too loud and takes up too much space, yet doesn't take up nearly the amount of space he should. So his actual greatest flaw is his own self loathing. It drags him down, clogs his mind and keeps him from embracing all the things that he's actually good at. He could be so much more, have so much more, if he just learned to embrace himself as he is, and all the good things coming his way he's so sure he doesn't deserve.

30. What are your Tav’s intentions/goals after the end of the game?

After some deliberation he agrees to go live with Gale in Waterdeep, but has a few loose ends to tie up before he can go anywhere; to finish whatever business he left behind in Baldur's Gate when he was squidnapped (he's a man of his word after all), and securing a place for Nana to live safely. Much of his smuggling/procurer business is in tatters after everything that has happened, and he mainly focuses on getting everyone whatever's left of their goods and closing any open business before he leaves Baldur's Gate for the foreseeable future. As for Nana, she's become too senile to effectively take care of herself, especially after so much of her domain (the sewers) was torn apart by the Netherbrain. Not quite sure where you'd stash a senile spore druid, who can be a bit of a danger to both herself and those around her, but Jay is nothing if not resourceful so I'm sure he'll come up with something. (which means I have to come up with something lmao) I imagine there's also a few instances of helping out around the city as it tries to get back on its feet, in between everything else. If he can levearge his access and wider network of people to help rebuild his own city, he's more than happy to do it. But once he finally get his ass over to Waterdeep he doesn't really have any plans for the first time in his life. He gets to just exist and vibe for the first time in a very long time, and honestly he needs it.
