На одной чаше весов - страсти, насилие, пороки, на другой - принятие себя, мира и мира в мире, через буддизм.  Минималистичная форма, простое, прямое содержание, насыщенные детали, яркие образы. Кино оставило грустное ощущение, но финальная точка сделала эту грусть не скребущей, а нежно обволакивающей. Сюжет. Четыре, почти не связанные друг с другом истории. Иногда, какие-то детали могут пересекаться, но в целом это разные сюжеты и разные, не знакомые друг с другом персонажи. 

Первая история Dahai (Shanxi) о мужчине из маленького городка, работающего на приватизированной угольной шахте. Его возмущение коррупционным беспределом доходит до точки он берёт в руки ружьё. Этот эпизод основан на серии убийств, совершенных Ху Вэньхаем  в 2001 году. 

Вторая San'er (Chongqing) о мужчине, который приехал на родину, чтобы сблизиться с семьёй, прочувствовал дух перемен и решил стать бандитом. История  в общих чертах основана на истории Чжоу Кэхуа, бандита, совершившего несколько убийств и ограблений в период с 2004 по 2012 год.
