kaeya

kaeya's favourite cafe is a late-night one right next to his favourite bar – so that he can sober up after a night of drinks. he doesn't actually drink the coffee there, of course, but a refresher is always handy when he's dehydrated and slumping in your arms. he seems to be a regular, and the short cat-eared girl who mans the counter sighs as she places a berry drink on the table.

childe

Watatsumi Island. It is beautiful and no one will deny that Gorou likes the pearls that are all over the island. Now you just have to decide between the Shrine or in front of one of the waterfalls.

Liyue, he already knows Beidou and Kazuha, so I'm sure they would even take you two to the harbor. Be assured that Gorou will want to try all the desserts and sweets he can find at the food stalls.

how does he propose to you?

He would ask you to accompany him on a mission in the desert for some kind of illegal trafficking, but all you are able to see is a natural oasis and Cyno smiling at you as he removes his hood.

where is the wedding taking place?

As much as it seemed like a good option to have the wedding in the desert as well, it ended up being held in the city of Sumeru, where it was easier for people to arrive and at least the heat would not be a big issue.

where are you going on your honeymoon?

I like to imagine Cyno again in Mondstadt, but this time you would use the trip to go to Spinedragon as well, he must be so cute in all the snow. It's not usual for him.

children before or after marriage?

After I guess, but mostly due to lack of time. You're both waiting for Cyno to stop doing such dangerous things and be able to spend more time with you before you try anything.

how many children does he want?

1 is fine for him, but if you want more he's not going to make any complaints about it.

If he normally reminds you to drink water every five minutes, now he will remind you every five seconds. Forget about going alone to areas like the desert or rainforests at least during the last months, and when you are close to delivery he won't leave your side.

He's sort of playful about it, he'll be giggling and grinning while you both try to stay quiet.

Albedo

Albedo has a very low sex drive, so I feel he'd only ever be in the mood if you bring it up. He's also very curious about what things you like the most. He intends to explore every part of your body to see how it works. He remembers all of these places too so that he knows how to better satisfy you. One of his favourites is just having you on his lap while he works in Dragonspine because it keeps you both warm and unites you both in a way he absolutely cannot get enough of.

Xiao

Xiao seems like the type to accidentally break the bed during sex. Not because he's rough but because he's gripping the headboard to keep himself from hurting you. Gorou tends to overthink this type of thing. He wants to make sure that you are comfortable. He always tells you a safeword in case, and he never concerns his own please until he's gone down on you. He needs to be absolutely sure that he's pleased you before he can help himself to you. That’s especially hard since he gets worked up easily. He really tries to make it special for you both during those moments because you don’t always have a lot of time to do them.

Kamisato Ayato

He can get wrapped up in his work and forget about his needs so sometimes you might need to come to him. He's someone I think would enjoy cockwarming like Albedo because he can do that and do his paperwork.

Tighnari

Tighnari gets oddly flustered at the moment and actually ends up rambling unless you stop him. He's quite nervous so try to guide him through it. It's a little ironic since I imagine him having a pretty normal, maybe even kinda high sex drive. If he gets too needy you guys might even go at it in the forest, but he'll be a little anxious about being found before losing it completely

Cyno

He isn't mean but he's stern. He likes to be in charge and won't leave a bratty S/O unpunished. It's not anything actually bad. He's likely to edge you until you apologise. He wouldn't break the bed but that might be because he's more fond of taking you against a wall

Scaramouche

Oh, he is so bratty. He would probably call you teasing names and pick on you for how needy you look when he edges you. He's mean during it but he gets surprisingly gentle in the aftermath. He won't mention it but he'll run you a bath and make you a drink. He'd prefer it if you never brought it up.

You knew your relationship with Gorou was going through the ringer with the demands at your work increasing. People slacking off and making it difficult to just sack them when they suddenly decide to get their act together after a disciplinary, only to go back to their old selves. People getting fed up with these individuals and understandably leaving, dealing with the press.

Everything was just so stress inducing, and due to being a manager you had to seal with it. You were under the process of getting more people, but in the meantime you needed to pick up more and more work.

Gorou had understood this at first, knowing he'd still see you at home. When it got to the point of only returning after 9pm at the earliest, that's when the cracks start to form. He hears from friends how you had been talking to someone who was so obviously interested in you, someone who you were speaking to for a good 30 minutes undisturbed.

His friends were truly horrid, planting the idea in Grouse mind that this interviewee was flirting with you when they were just engaging in a potential job offer. Gorou never had the chest to raise this with you, however, opting to be silent when mentally leaving your relationship.

When you got to the point of only returning home at 1am, the relationship was really hanging on the cliff. You love Gorou, so when you saw him being so...awkward with you returning to your shared home, you knew you needed to get your act together. Maybe bring your wok home to spend time with him, or better yet arrange for a day off to treat him.

One day, you manage to get out of work at 5pm, and you get a bouquet that was freshly made (lucky you!) And your boyfriends favourite luxury sweets (you found out during an anniversary date). Driving home, you tell yourself you fully plan on showering Gorou in love.

Opening the door with the gifts you could pick up quickly, your face drops when you hear two voices - one familiar and one not.

"What about your partner?" You hear the stranger ask. "I can be so much better for you."

That's absurd, you think as you begin to walk towards the room the noise was coming from.

"I know, it's just that I'm scared of being hurt again." Gorou sighs, you dropping your gifts at that moment. Hearing gasps coming from the room, you run away like a coward before you could put a face to Gorou's new lover.

ㅤㅤ“So. We’re married now, huh?” He said with a low chuckle, that smirk never leaving his face as he slipped his hand under your chin, tilting you up closer to his face. “Who woulda thought? If someone told me ten years ago that I would marry my best friend, I would believe them to have rocks in their head.”

ㅤㅤ“Here we are,” he repeated, fondness clear in his tone. Childe is primarily a toy maker and unofficially a sort of 12th harbinger, who occasionally acts as his brother’s body double/alibi on missions. No one in Liyue knows Tartaglia is a twin, so they don’t question him.

While Childe is wining and dining Zhongli and rescuing the traveler, Ajax is figuring out a way to raise Osial, and laying low. Ajax is the harbinger the traveler fights in game, not Childe.

Childe pulls up to the gnosis handoff perfectly uninjured, and the traveler is like “hey wtf? Didn’t I just beat the shit out of you?” and Childe is like “I’ve never fought you before tho?? Btw, Signora, have you seen Tartaglia? I need to head back to Snezhnaya, and I’d like to say bye.”

HIIII OH MY GOD OK UMMMM

eoos is like. my favourite fic of all time EVER. it’s got over 300k words and 28 chapters so explaining what’s going on is like. impossible (believe me, i tried summarizing it chapter by chapter bc i wanted shay to read it so badly but they don’t read long fics and i just. gave up after chapter 2 lmao) BUT BASICALLY it’s a genshin impact fic where ajax gets transported into the genshin world and is like assigned to be character tartaglia. tartaglia is a villain in the second chapter of genshin but things go a little differently in the fic version. aka he dies in this version. anyways!!

so basically ajax looks at the fate he’s been given and decides “uhh no thanks fuck that i’m gonna romance zhongli instead” because he spent all his time and money in the real world being a massive zhongli simp and honestly i cannot blame him.

since ajax is now a character in a video game he gets assigned like. a helper?? that basically acts as a system that keeps record of all of his achievements, relationships with other people, goals and main missions (very important!! if he does not complete them on time he will DIE for real) inventory and other stuff like that. he nicknames his system AR (but we LATER find out that AR is actually the spirit of the original tartaglia (who was killed when ajax entered the world and took over his body) but he didn’t know that for the longest time so basically he’s just babysitting this gay trainwreck (ajax) that now pilots his body. their dynamic is fun i love it)

ANYWAYS. anyways for the longest time this fic was about ajax fucking around and being a massive dork who’s hopelessly in love with zhongli, and how their relationship evolves over time. since ajax arrived like 2 and half years before the main missions were to take place he had lots of time to spend taking zhongli on dates and sightseeing with him and making meals for him and serenading him every night before bed, they’re so adorable. and zhongli is very much in love with him too!! this fic is great because the chapters alternate between being written from ajax’s perspective and other character’s perspectives (like zhongli) so we get to see how they feel about each other and. ugh it’s so cute. it’s so cute how zhongli basically immediately took a liking to ajax and was like ‘this one. this one is special to me. he is my little priest and i shall cherish him’ (because he’s a dragon and also a god and childe is like. his biggest fan basically. so he’s zhongli’s priest. it’s cute).

they go on lots of cute dates and they flirt with each other all the time and ajax is such a gay loser he doesn’t even realize he’s in love with zhongli and zhongli is head over heels for him until like. he basically proposed to zhongli. meanwhile zhongli is over here being like ‘ah yes. childe. my boyfriend of over a year. the one i share my home with and spend 90% of my time with. the most important person in my life. and soon to be my husband <3’. they are engaged like ajax definitely proposed to him and he didn’t even realize but they’re totally engaged

AND THATS LIKE THE FIRST 75% OF THE FIC UNTIL EVERYTHING GOES DOWNHILL BECAUSE REMEMBER THE MAIN MISSIONS AND SHIT?? AND HOW TARTAGLIA WAS ORIGINALLY A VILLAIN IN THE GAME?? yeah well SOME PEOPLE still want him to experience the same fate he did in the original game and they’re doing everything in their power to make sure that happens to him. so just when you think ajax and zhongli can finally retire and live happily ever after BAM childe’s under arrest for terrorism and attempted murder and BAM suddenly there’s courtroom drama and OH SHIT zhongli’s gonna reveal he’s a god to everyone to defend ajax’s honour but he CAN’T do that because that goes against one of ajax’s main missions so if zhongli reveals that ajax will DIE and there’s a counter counting down to his death basically so he has to do something to stop it and he’s already dealing with intrusive thoughts from genshin’s version of hell and the only thing he can think of is to STAB ZHONGLI TO MAKE HIM STOP. and it works of course but the ajax gets knocked out and he’s all alone again because AR got suspended during all of this and all of his friends know that he almost destroyed liyue harbour (because he had to. it was part of his main mission) and he doesn’t know if zhongli’s gonna be ok and HU TAO (OH MY GOD I DIDNT EVEN MENTION HU TAO. BEST AUNTIE AND ALSO THE ONLY OTHER PERSON WHO GOT ISEKAI’D INTO GENSHIN LIKE AJAX DID. SHES REALLY IMPORTANT HOW DID I NOT MENTION HER) comes along and is like “ok boyo it’s time to fake your death!!” so NOW zhongli and everyone else thinks childe is dead. and that’s where we left off.

so the next chapter is gonna retell those events from zhongli’s point of view and i am not ready to read about how ridiculously in love he is with ajax at the beginning only to be stabbed by him and have no idea what’s going on and then think he’s dead. my heart burst into a million pieces just reading the last chapter and thinking about how he was going to react and now i get to read it and-

Tartaglia's 5-Step Plan for Wooing Morax- Chapter 7: Morepesok

Childe dismissed the cart driver as he reached the outskirts of Morepesok. As he took his bags and began the long walk to his childhood home, he noticed how the forests never seemed to change, no matter how long he was gone. He couldn’t tell if it was comforting or not- on one hand, stability was not something easily accessed by Harbingers, but on the other, it felt like the town didn’t need him– like he was an unnecessary accessory, one that was pleasant while it was around but not missed when it was gone.

He paused his musings when he reached the door of the old house. There didn’t seem to be anyone inside, so he entered, taking off his coat and setting his bags down on the ground. He rummaged through the top one until he found what he was looking for– a small box containing the gifts he had brought for Anthon, Tonia and Teucer. He had been diligent about sending them presents every week or so, but his coming home was a special occasion, and as Teucer would remind him, ‘Special occasions require special gifts!’.

Childe– or rather, Ajax– smiled. Nobody knew he was coming home, so his family was undoubtedly going to be thrilled to see him. Well, his siblings would, at least– his parents were more wary of him. Everyone was civil for the most part, though– his brother Matvey being the one notable exception– and wouldn’t say anything in front of the younger ones.

Ajax heard talking outside the door, before it swung open, revealing his oldest sister, Inessa, and his three younger siblings.

“Anthon, for the last time, you can’t just skip class whenever you forget to do your– Ajax?

Ajax smiled. “Didn’t expect me to come back so soon?”

“Big brother!” Teucer ran at him, grabbing him in a bear hug. Tonia and Anthon joined in a moment later, Ajax getting crushed under a mountain of fluffy jackets and red hair. 

“It’s good to see you too,” Ajax laughed. “Inessa, anything happen while I was gone?”

She smiled. “Mira and I just got engaged, and moving out has been taking up a good bit of time. Luckily, these guys are more than happy to help,” she said, gesturing to Tonia, Anthon and Teucer.

“You too? Geez, at this rate, I’m going to be the only single one left in a few months. What, with you getting married, Lena’s new boyfriend, and Nikolai living in Fontaine, it’ll just be me and the little guys. And Matvey, I guess.”

Inessa looked a bit confused at that. “Nobody told you?”

“Told me what?”

“Matvey’s engaged to that baker girl, Sofia. He has been for months– you really didn’t know?”

Ajax smiled apologetically. “It must have slipped my mind.”

He didn’t even tell me about his engagement?

He and Matvey were close when they were younger, Matvey being only a year older than Ajax himself. He had been one of Ajax’s only friends. They went fishing together, listened to adventure stories together, went playing in the woods together– his mother used to say they were practically joined at the hip.

That is, until one trip into the woods resulted in Ajax falling through a break in the land, disappearing for days.

When he finally escaped, collapsing on the doorstep of the house, battered and bloody, it had been Matvey who got him to a doctor, Matvey who stayed by his side while his wounds were painstakingly repaired.

Even then, Ajax knew the kindness wouldn’t last forever.

Teucer and Anthon each had a million questions about Ajax’s time in Liyue– ‘What’s the food like?’ ‘Did you see any cool rock monsters?’ ‘Do the people eat rocks?’

‘Are the people made of rocks?’. There were a lot, and he struggled to answer them all, but it was Tonia who (unwittingly) decided to be mean to him that day.

“So, Ajax, did you meet anyone in Liyue?” The question was accompanied by over-the-top eyebrow wiggling.

“Uh–” Childe flushed slightly at the memory of Zhongli’s promise before he left– “I don’t– not like that?”

Tonia gave him a suspicious look. “So there was someone?”

“Um– no? Not really?”

“Aw, c’mon, you don’t have to be shy!” she exclaimed. “Just spit it out!”

“He didn’t– I mean, there was a guy, but nothing actually happened.”

“Oh? Do you mean that one consultant guy you mentioned in your letter? What’s he like?” she asked, eyes lighting up in interest.

Ajax sighed. “He was smart, pretty, and way out of my league, Tonia.” He accentuated this point by flicking her lightly on the nose. “Men like that are better left in fairytales.”

“You’re no fun!” Tonia pouted. “And besides, how could some dusty old academic be out of your league? You’re kind, and smart, and plus, it’s not like your toy seller job pays badly.”

Ajax glanced nervously towards his two younger brothers, but they had evidently been uninterested by talk of romance and had instead moved on to trying to guess what was in the box he had brought by shaking it from various angles. “Tonia, please be more careful,” he sighed.

Tonia rolled her eyes. “They’re going to figure out some time, Ajax.”

“Yeah.”

When Ajax woke up, his side full of stitches and his head woozy from anesthetic, the first thing he noticed– besides the stark lack of Abyss surrounding him– was Matvey’s concerned expression as he started to get up.

“Ajax, sit back down. You’ll pop a stitch.”

Ajax rolled his eyes. “It barely hurts.”

Matvey gave him a horrified look. “Ajax, you almost bled out on the porch. What happened to you? Where were you?”

Ajax looked away. “It’s not important. What matters is that I’m back now, and I’m fine.”

“Ajax. Listen to me. Just tell me what happened. It’s been three days, Ajax.”

Ajax blinked. “Three months, you mean?”

Matvey’s expression morphed from concern to confusion. “What are you talking about? You disappeared three days ago. Not months.”

“I… oh. Alright.”

“Please, Ajax. Just tell me what happened.”

Ajax looked away. “You… you wouldn’t like it.”

“Ajax.”

He kept his eves trained on the ground.

“What did you do?”

“It’s none of your concern.”

“Like hell it isn’t! Do you have any idea how worried we were? I thought you were dead!”

Ajax froze.

“We’ve all seen that shiny new vision at your hip, Ajax. You really expect me to think that you got that doing nothing? Do you think I’m stupid?”

“No, I would never!”

Matvey looked at him, expression steeling over. “The old Ajax would have told me.” With that, he picked his coat off of its hanger, collecting his things. “The doctor says you should stay in bed for at least another two days. Hopefully, you’ll be able to tell everyone where you were when you get out.”

“Two days? Come on, can’t you cut a guy some slack?”

Matvey sighed. “Goodbye, Ajax.” He did not slam the door when he left– there were other patients in the building, of course– but he did shut it with a decidedly frustrated clunk.

Later that night, after Ajax had given out his presents to the children (A ruin guard kite for Teucer, a Liyuean go set for Anthon, and a pair of earrings and matching bracelet for Tonia) and Inessa had gone home, the door opened again. This time, it was Lena coming home with his parents, the three of them laughing together, seemingly about the recent affairs of one of the locals Ajax hadn’t seen in years.

“Ajax?”

“In the flesh,” he replied with a smile.

Lena ran over to tackle-hug him, while his parents exchanged wary glances.

“It’s so good to see you! Anthon here was half afraid you would like Liyue too much and never come back!”

At the look Ajax sent him, Anthon looked at the ground and sighed. “I didn’t say it like that exactly. And besides, isn’t that what Nikolai did?”

Lena reached over to pat him on the head. “Well, Nikolai is a chronic homebody and even more chronic nerd. Our dear Ajax would never abandon us for plays and concerts, isn’t that right?”

“Of course. It would take at least a good restaurant or two to keep me from leaving.”

Lena punched him on the arm. “What Ajax means to say is that he would never abandon us like that.”

“Speaking of ditching us, where’s Matvey? I thought he was coming over today?” Tonia interjected.

Ajax had heard his footsteps when he entered through the back door. Even now, he avoided Ajax whenever he was home.

“I don’t know, Tonia.”

Ajax did not end up staying at the hospital for the next two days. He left as soon as he had a moment away from the constant supervision of the doctors. Things with Matvey didn’t improve, but the situation didn’t really fall apart until Ajax got involved with the Fatui. He had finally snapped, getting into a fight with a group of local Fatui agents. However, when they called for backup, instead of being killed for his treason, he was recruited. When he told his family the news, the only one who wasn’t surprised was Matvey. He took Ajax aside right before the Fatui came to pick him up.

“I don’t know who you are,” he had said, “but you aren’t Ajax. Ajax never came back from the woods, did he?”

That was the last time Matvey ever called him by his real name. From then on, he was always Tartaglia– if Matvey spoke to him at all.

Zhongli’s coupe snaked through the parking lot at the Northland Bank. Winding through the various parked cars and valet staff spotted across the asphalt, the anxiety that had been coiling in the pit of his stomach grew tighter. Each car that he passed was distinctly not the eleventh harbinger’s powder-blue convertible.

Zhongli banished the thought. Childe said he was here, so he was here. It didn’t do either of them any good to have Zhongli skulking through the parking lot, and probably drawing attention from the bank’s expansive security detail.

Looping back to the main driveway, he pulled up to the valet station and stepped out of the champagne coupe, quickly exchanging the key for a ticketed placeholder, and walked up the short stairs to the main door.

“I have some news you won’t like” Ajax mumbled against Zhongli’s cheek, pressing an apologetic kiss to his temple.

Zhongli gave a hum of disapproval, languidly stretching and shifting on the mattress, pulling Ajax tighter against his shoulder.

“I’m going to be gone for the next few days, work stuff. I’d wiggle out of it if I could, but it looks like they actually need me.”

“Where are you going?” Zhongli whispered, half asleep.

“I’m staying local, actually.”

Zhongli’s gaze met Ajax’s, a budding confusion showing in his expression.

“What do you mean?”

“I have an assignment at the Northland branch here in Liyue, but they’re having some higher-ups come in, and it’s going to be nothing but politics and policies for a few days. Between keeping up with my with my actual work and the sheer amount of political jockeying I have to do, Ekaterina said to just plan on passing out on one of the couches in the back every couple days.”

“They torture you” Zhongli huffed,  closing his eyes and snuggling even closer into Ajax’s side.

Ajax’s expression iced over, guilt stabbing through his chest. He already hated lying to Zhongli, but the poetic irony of his lover’s declaration almost made it feel worse somehow.

“I’m here to see Tartaglia”

“Name?”

“Zhongli”

“I’m sorry, he doesn’t have any public appointments scheduled today, are you sure you’re here to see the harbinger?”

“I don’t have an appointment “ Zhongli replied, “it’s urgent and I couldn’t get ahold of his direct office.”

“I’m sorry, but unfortunately I won’t be able to schedule you for a walk-in meeting today. If you’d like I can set an appointment later this week-“

“I’m his fiancé” Zhongli interrupted “it’s a family emergency. I need to see him.”

“…I, one moment.”

Zhongli fidgeted with his engagement ring as the receptionist dialed an extension and waited for the line to pick up.

“Hello? Yes, I have a visitor for Tartaglia. Yes I- I understand however I have an unusual situation-Sir, what would you like me to do about- one moment.”

The receptionist held out the telephone to Zhongli with an apologetic smile.

The building worry threatened to suffocate him as he took it.

“Childe?”

“Hi sweetheart-“ by Celestia, he sounded tired, “what’s up?”

“You’re okay” Zhongli sighed with relief, Even though he’d tried not to think about it, he knew how dangerous Childe’s career was, and he had been fearing the worst.

“Yeah, I’m okay” he chuckled, “I’m at work, why wouldn’t I be?”

“I was just… worried. You haven’t answered my calls in a couple days and I was worried-“

“-shit, I’m so sorry!” Childe interjected, “fuck, I left my phone at my desk and I honestly haven’t been back to check it, by the Archons, I must’ve worried you sick-“

“It’s okay” Zhongli insisted, “You’re okay and that’s all the matters. You are doing alright, my love? You’ve never stayed this long at Northland, I’m concerned.”

“I’m fine, really “ Childe replied “a little more tired than usual, I’ve been going pretty much non-stop the past… what has it been now, four days? I lose track of time in here.”

“Where are you, Childe? I thought you said this was all meetings.”

The dull buzz of the telephone hung in the air.

“I.. I’m here at Northland, truly Zhongli, I know you’re worried but I’m just working away from my office.”

“Your car isn’t here” Zhongli replied.

Childe was faster to cover the second time “Ekaterina must be out, she sometimes takes the car to run work errands or pick up lunch-“

“Can I see you?” Zhongli pleaded “Just for a minute or two, I won’t keep you long, I just- I need to know you’re okay.”

Another pause.

“I… one second-“ Zhongli heard the soft thump of Childe’s palm covering the other end of the call and his muffled voice. He couldn’t make out what Childe was actually saying, just the timbre of his voice. He didn’t recognize the muffled reply Childe got, but his heart sunk at the agitated tone.

Zhongli heard more thumping as Childe adjusted the phone again,

“I’m sorry I worried you, of course it’s okay for you to see me, would you give the phone back to the receptionist? I’ll let her know it’s okay and someone will take you back- I’ll see you in a minute, okay? I love you.”

“I love you too” Zhongli barely registered handing the phone back to the receptionist, or the short conversation she had with Childe before hanging up. It was all he could do just to still his heart and not bolt through every hallway until he found Childe himself.

“You know, despite your incessant whining, taking a break isn’t going to make this any easier. In fact, it’ll actually most likely delay my research, we’ll probably have to reset at least the last hour’s worth of endurance testing-“

“What the fuck else was I supposed to tell him, Dottore?” Childe snapped back, “thanks to you I’ve been gone nearly a fucking week, and if you would’ve given me, I don’t know, maybe two minutes to check my phone in the past forty-eight hours, we wouldn’t even be fucking dealing with this-“

“Whatever you need to tell yourself to feel better, it’s not improving my research”

“Shove your research up your ass- and clean this shit up,” Childe gestured wildly to the blood-covered blades, blunt weapons, syringes, and various research equipment that was scattered about the room, “you think a phone call is bad? I don’t think even you want to know what’ll happen if he sees all this.”

Dottore stared back at Childe with what could only be described as a malevolent smile as Childe wobbled to his feet and limped out the door.

How in Teyvat was he going to fix this, he thought. Catching his murky reflection in the metallic hallway wall, he could see the maroon and purple gashes and bruises that mottled nearly every inch of exposed skin.

Wincing as he made his way down the hall and into his office, he prayed that he at least beat Zhongli and the receptionist to the room. He needed every available second to try and come up with some rational explanation as to why he looked half-dead.

Panicking, he quickly pulled a spare coat from a nearby closet and shrugged it on, hoping to cover as much of the damage as possible. He tugged at his pant legs to try and cover his bruised, broken ankles, and quickly summoned a small orb of hydro energy to try and scrub as much blood as he could from his face.

He barely had time to lean against his desk and feign relaxation before a very worried Zhongli was ushered through the door.

“Hi Xiangsheng-“ Childe was instantly silenced as Zhongli flung his arms around his neck. It took everything in him to not scream out in pain from the agitation to his various injuries, locking his jaw tightly and burying his face in the crook of Zhongli’s neck to hide the fact that his eyes were watering against his will.

“What’s going on?” Zhongli pulled back, gingerly resting his hand on Childe’s shoulder and absentmindedly toying with the end of his hair.

“It’s work” Childe soothed, willing his jaw to relax and forcing a weak smile “you know how it is.”

Zhongli’s eyes flickered to the top of Childe’s head,

“You’re bleeding-“

Pushing his hair off of his forehead and thumbing over his scalp, Zhongli frowned at the blood picked up by his fingertips.

“Will you please tell me what’s going on?” Zhongli begged, “You look exhausted, for some reason you’re wearing a coat in the middle of spring in Liyue, you haven’t talked to me in four days, you seem like you’re avoiding something, you’re clearly injured with no obvious cause, please- just, let me in…”

Zhongli cradled Childe’s face in his hand, his troubled expression softening as Childe leaned into his hand,

“I want to be there for you” Zhongli murmured, “even if there’s nothing I can do to help, I’m worried, please.”

Childe sighed as he hung his head forward, his temple leaning against Zhongli’s collarbone,

“Alright… I wasn’t lying when I said I’m stuck in meetings, that was at least the first day. There’s this… researcher- well, he’s really a doctor but that’s not the point-“

“A doctor?” Zhongli asked

“I think, that’s what he calls himself anyway- besides the point, he’s here for research, and… research with, me, specifically.”

“…Elaborate”

“The Tsaritsa, the other harbingers, basically everyone in her majesty’s service know about my… qualities, let’s say, from my time in The Abyss. But, beyond a surface level understanding and examples from my time in battle, nobody really knows the extent of what I can do, not even myself, to be frank, so there’s a doctor, here, on the Tsaritsa’s orders, researching my particular case. It’s happened a few times before, the past few days has been… endurance testing”

“Endurance…?”

Childe sighed, “it’d…. It’d be easier if I just showed you, I don’t want to get into the details, just… promise you wont freak out, okay?”

Slowly, Childe pulled away from Zhongli, rolling his shoulders with a small wince, he carefully shrugged off the hastily-grabbed coat, letting it pool at his feet as he unfastened his uniform top.

“…Ajax”

Childe flinched, avoiding Zhongli’s eyes,

“Really, it looks worse than it is-you and I both know I have above-average stamina, this was just… seeing how far it would go.”

“Ajax, look at me.”

Childe met Zhongli’s gaze with guilt tearing at his core, quickly morphing into genuine fear as he saw the barely restrained rage in Zhongli’s expression.

“What exactly was the goal here? I’ve seen corpses that were in better shape than you right now. Was the plan to just torture you to death? Let enough blades slice into you until you succumbed to blood loss? Beat you unconscious to see how many times you could take it before you didn’t wake up?”

“I have a duty to the Tsaritsa-“

“What would’ve happened if I hadn’t come here?”

…Childe didn’t have an honest answer to give him.

Zhongli slung one arm under Childe’s shoulder and tilted to carry most of his weight,

“We’re leaving-“

“I’m still not done with the research-“

“Drop it.”

Childe shuddered at the burning rage laced through Zhongli’s latest statement. He was quite afraid of Dottore, and even more afraid of what the Tsaritsa would do when she found out he disobeyed a direct order, but both paled in comparison to the sheer terror he felt at hearing that in Zhongli’s voice

“Qiqi, forceps, please”

“Forceps”

Childe hissed in pain as the shrapnel buried in his ribs was wiggled around and out of his flesh. Slowly, every bit of embedded weaponry was meticulously outlined and fished out of his skin. It’d been at least an hour and a half and he still wasn’t done.

That wasn’t even considering all the other categories of injury still to be addressed.

Zhongli’s hand ghosted gently over Childe’s, rubbing small circles into the iron-tight grip his knuckles had on the bed railing.

“Thank you again, Baizhu.” Zhongli said, “truly, I’m beyond words.”

“My pleasure” Baizhu replied “I must say, I’m fascinated that you’ve not only managed to not succumb to your injuries, but also still somehow stay conscious. If you wouldn’t mind, I’d be interested in researching-“

“Absolutely not” Zhongli said coldly. Seeing the surprised look from both Childe and Baizhu, he sighed

“I apologize, I mean no disrespect, that simply is not a possibility.”

“It’s no matter” Baizhu said breezily, seemingly ignoring the suppressed whine from his patient as he pulled a particularly tight suture “I’ve already made quite a few discoveries just in this work so far.”

“Lovely” Childe hissed through gritted teeth, earning a sharp frown from Zhongli.

“I should warn you” Baizhu continued, “While I have no problem respecting your privacy, I am required by oath to report this to the Qixing; the amount of damage I’ve assessed is clearly criminal assault.”

“Consider it done” Zhongli replied “I will be discussing this with the Tianquan Ningguang myself.”

“Xiangsheng-“

“This is not up for debate.”

“Can you just-“ Childe groaned as he sat up a few centimeters, earning a firm push to the shoulder from both Baizhu and Zhongli “think about this for a second?”

“It has already been decided.”

“For just a moment” Childe said, “think about the political implications of that; for one minute, honestly.”

“What part of criminal assault are you not understanding-“

“So the Qixing get involved, yeah?” Childe retorted “even if they make a private investigation, word will get out that Liyue is making a direct accusation against the Tsaritsa; at least the leaders in Mondstat will find out, if not the general public of Teyvat.”

Childe sighed, head pressed against the pillow and massaging his temple,

“Think about how anyone in the Schneznayan service is going to react to that. Both  countries have sacrificed too much- you have sacrificed too much for an active conflict to start over me fulfilling my duty-“

“-I need to step out for a moment” Baizhu interrupted, “Qiqi, please fetch three rolls of gauze from the store room.”

“Gauze.” Qiqi repeated softly as she walked around the foot of the bed and out the door, her lilac braid trailing lazily behind her. Baizhu’s footsteps echoing across the tile behind her faded into a suffocating silence.

“…My love-”

“Don’t-“ Childe interrupted, “please, don’t make this harder than it has to be.”

Zhongli inched his chair closer to the bedside, watching as Childe screwed his eyes shut, angrily swiping his knuckles across his tear-stained cheeks.

Archons, he was in so much pain.

“My love…” Zhongli carded his hand through Childe’s damp hair, “What you have gone through, is completely beyond your duty to the Tsaritsa. While your loyalty is undeniably admirable, you don’t have to do this-“

“-I owe her my life-“

“I am owed your life as well-“ Zhongli argued.

Childe blinked back in surprise, confusion written across his face.

“I made a promise to share the rest of my life with you,” Zhongli’s free hand coming to Childe’s cheek, “share, Ajax, not sit idly as you risk your life again and again-“

“-you know me” Childe interrupted, his voice tight with unshed tears, “you know who I am, you know what I am… You know how this is going to end, how I’m going to end-“

“Stop” Zhongli interrupted “I will not hear a word of this. You deserve kindness, Ajax. You deserve a chance to live a normal life-“

“Nothing about this is normal” Childe murmured, “nothing about me is normal. My entire life has been one freak string of luck and if you’re looking for normal then I’m sorry but you picked the wrong person-“

Zhongli’s gaze was drawn to Childe’s hands, knotted in the white sheets, he watched as Childe fidgeted with his engagement ring, the ring sliding further and further down his finger as his shaking hands seemingly fought with his own mind about what he was even doing.

“Shh” Zhongli reached and took Childe’s left hand, gently flattening his palm and sliding Childe’s engagement ring back to its rightful place, “Baobei, look at me.”

Childe’s cobalt eyes, glassy and rimmed red with tears, met Zhongli’s steady, tawny gaze.

“I made a promise,” Zhongli said “to you, to myself, to Celestia itself, that you are who I am going to spend this life with. You, Baobei, wholly and utterly you, not the version of yourself that never went through your hardships that lives in your own mind.”

Childe hiccuped, fresh tears tracking down his face as his grip on Zhongli’s hand tightened.

“You are resilient, my love, not damaged, or broken. You have lived through things no one deserves to endure, that others could not endure, and yet you found your way to me.”

Zhongli pressed a soft kiss to Childe’s temple, feeling his beloved tremble slightly beneath his lips as the harbinger fought to breathe between shuddering, tearful breaths.

“I’m not going anywhere” Zhongli murmured against Childe’s skin, “I promise.”

Childe cried out as he threw his arms around Zhongli’s shoulders, burying his face in Zhongli’s neck and sobbing in earnest now. Zhongli held him steady, murmuring quiet nothings in Childe’s hair and wrapping both arms around his waist.

Zhongli had made peace with the fact that he could not go back and change the past. Archon that is was, it was a gift he still did not possess. Godhood, he found, was not ultimate power.

The future, however, he had decided, was his to mold as he wished. His ego had calmed with time, shifting from the War God Morax to Rex Lapis, the God of Contracts, before finally becoming Zhongli; the closest he had ever come to one of his mortal subjects. He had little want to transform the very earth and people upon it these days as he had in his youth.

Little, but not none.

As Childe clung, trembling, to his body across the cold metal of the hospital bed, Zhongli made another vow.

The “doctor”, would pay for what he did. The Tsaritsa herself would pay for her orders, and Zhongli would see it through as he lived his chosen life:

with his beloved at his side.

I dont mind GIFs and emojis being used for extra expression of a character' so long as it matches the vibe/structure of the scene (example: doing a crack scene with image reactions; canon compliant/divergent storyline, using an emoji to further present a character's emotion: 💀. The look of dread on Kaveh's face almost made Alhaitham wonder if this was going too far. Almost.)

You can ask questions midway, so long as it is a moderate amount and it relates to the scene. Of course, you can always break away if something comes up

I won't pressure you to respond consistently if you're unable as life can be chaotic for anyone, though a heads up sooner or later of your roleplay style or how things work with you would be great. Without it, I can't prepare myself or gage my expectations without feeling let down
