hi there. we haven't actually visited the original "transmigrated as the female lead's villain fiance" universe in a while, so i cleaned up something that i don't think i've posted before.
The thing about Zhao Yuhang was that he could never keep a girlfriend. As far as Yang Haoran could tell, it wasn’t really because Zhao Yuhang was a bad boyfriend. It would almost be more impressive if he was, considering how much effort he put into being a good boyfriend. Zhao Yuhang was considerate, caring, and good at sex, or so Yang Haoran had heard. And yet, the breakups kept happening.
Xiu Yusheng had broken up with him on the reasoning that they’d be better as friends. An Ruobing had decided to transfer to a prestigious fashion university and didn’t want to deal with a long distance relationship. Liu Xiying had realized she was gay. Fang Yuan had become an international idol and spent too much time on her job for a boyfriend.
And so on, and so on, and so on.
“I have so many ex-girlfriends, Haoran,” Zhao Yuhang said miserably, his face buried in Yang Haoran’s shoulder. “So many. What’s wrong with me?”
“Nothing’s wrong with you,” Yang Haoran said soothingly, patting Zhao Yuhang on the back. “You’ve just having a run of bad luck, that’s all.”
Yang Haoran had privately theorized that the universe wanted Zhao Yuhang to be single and available when it put the female lead in front of him. This was not something he was going to tell Zhao Yuhang.
Zhao Yuhang laughed. “Are you saying I’m cursed?”
Yang Haoran took a moment too long to answer.
“I’m cursed,” Zhao Yuhang said. “Commitment hates me. I’m never going to keep a girlfriend past the one year mark. I’m never going to have a romantic wedding. My parents are going to put me in a bachelor’s matchmaking network. What if I end up having a loveless marriage? What if I don’t even get to have the loveless marriage. Maybe I’ll get divorced! Maybe I’ll get divorced multiple times! I’ll just be alone--”
“Maybe there’s a loophole?” Yang Haoran suggested hastily, before Zhao Yuhang descended even further down a spiral of depression. “Maybe it’s -- it’s just with girls that are, uh--” he cast his mind about trying to find one common trait among the girls that Zhao Yuhang dated. This was difficult, as the only real commonality between them was that Zhao Yuhang liked talking to them. Was Yang Haoran supposed to suggest Zhao Yuhang find someone he hated talking to?
“Girls that are what?” Zhao Yuhang said morosely. “Just -- girl? Any girl?”
The only other thing that his exes had in common was that they were all girls.
“Have you considered dating boys?” Yang Haoran blurted out.

fanfic of, uh, this snippet by @lizhly-writes
The rain had soaked through Zhao Yuhang's t-shirt and washed out his hair gel, but he didn't seem to notice the cold at all; in that moment, he only had eyes for Yang Haoran. "Ah-Hao," he said, panting, "wait up."
"Did you run here?" said Yang Haoran incredulously.
"Yes, but that's not important—"
"It's raining, at least put on a jacket or something before leaving the house. You're not even wearing matching shoes!"
Zhao Yuhang reached out and took a big fistful of Yang Haoran's shirt, dragging him forward with strength Yang Haoran would not have expected from a second male lead. "Stop. Looking. At. My. Shoes," he said. "The shoes are not the point! You cannot leave the country, Ah-Hao, I won't let you."
This seemed a little unreasonable to Yang Haoran. "I've already bought the plane ticket," he pointed out.
"We're rich, who fucking cares about your plane ticket!" said Zhao Yuhang, shaking Yang Haoran like a six foot Bop It.
Yang Haoran laid a hand over Zhao Yuhang's hand and carefully untangled the other man's fingers from his shirt. Zhao Yuhang's knuckles were cold under his own as he said slowly, "Why can't I go abroad?"
"Because I love you!" cried Zhao Yuhang, and then they kissed passionately right there in Terminal 2 of the Beijing Capital International Airport.
A week later, netizens were still making fun of Zhao Yuhang's two seasons out of date sneakers in the paparazzi photos that inevitably went viral.
#you can really pinpoint the exact moment i ran out of steam#not unsurprisingly i chickened out just as it began to get romantic#do i have a tag system for this blog?#fanfic#there's a few more snippets on orvcord so i look moderately less deranged there#of course that still adds up to like 500 words total of these guys so#anyway this is all ironic i promise (the full 900k friends to lovers fic will be dropping in fall 2025)#my writing#<- why do i even tag this it's not like i post anything else here

2020 Cup of China Preview
Cup of China is this weekend, from November 6 – 8, and is the second Grand Prix of the season with the cancellation of Skate Canada. It’s the smallest of the four remaining events. Like Skate America, there’s obvious winners in all four disciplines here at the Cup of China. Let’s get to it.
Men
The winner in the Men’s event should be Boyang Jin. The highest technical content in the field by a long mile. His component scores won’t be as high as Han Yan, but clean, he can be very good. He hasn’t been quite as consistent lately. The key for him will be to keep the mistakes to a minimum. He can afford some minor ones, but he can’t afford too many.
This makes the obvious silver medalist to be Han Yan. He is the only one here with any shot of challenging Jin for Gold. The key for him will be being clean – he can’t afford any mistakes, especially without a Quad. He has done a Quad Toe in the past, but did not do them last season. (He was coming from injury.)
The bronze medalist at this event will be He Zhang, who has been solidly third in China behind Yan and Jin. He had a personal best score here last year.
Fourth here should be Yudong Chen, who competed on the JGP last year. I don’t see him challenging for bronze here, though, unless Zhang makes a few mistakes, but I don’t see that happening.
The last two skaters are Zhimeng Peng and Juwen Xu. Xu outscored Peng at Nationals last year by about seventeen points.
Ladies
Hongyi Chen is the obvious winner here. She’s been China’s top Senior Lady for a couple of seasons now, and she definitely is among the ladies here.
The rest of the ladies are of no challenge to her. There’s Angel Li, a former US skater who was second at last year’s China Youth Games. There’s Minzhi Jin, who was eleventh at Chinese Nationals last year, and Lu Zheng who was tenth. The last skater is Siyang Zhang, who was seventeenth at the 2019 Chinese Nationals.
I don’t know enough to really make an informed decision, but based on what little I know, I’d rank Li second, then Zheng, Jin, and Zhang.
Pairs
There’s only three pairs in the competition after two withdrawals.
The obvious winners are Cheng Peng and Yang Jin, who are one of the best in the world. Up and coming Junior Grand Prix competitors Yuchen Wang and Yihang Huang should be a very solid second here, followed by Daizifei Zhu and Yuhang Liu.
Ice Dance
The obvious winners in this event are Shiyue Wang and Xinyu Liu, who have been rising in the Ice Dance World over the past couple of seasons, and are by far the best in China. The silver medalists should easily be Hong Chen and Zhouming Sun, two-time Chinese Silver Medalists, who were also tenth at Four Continents last year. The bronze medalist in the event should be Wanqi Ning and Chao Wang, three-time Chinese Bronze Medalists, who were twelfth at Four Continents.
The fourth place finishers should be Yuzhu Guo and Pengkun Zhao. They are the 2017 Chinese National Bronze medalists, who have been fourth at Nationals the past three years. They were ninth at the Cup of China last year. The last team is Yu Lifei and Zijan Gao, the Chinese Junior Silver Medalists who competed at a Junior Grand Prix event last year.

Cup of China 2020
Cup of China - even with only Chinese skaters and a smaller number of participants - turned out really good. So let’s go to some highlights.
Pairs
I loved them all!
Daizifei Zhu/Yuhang Liu - SP Never Tear us apart / FP Mulan I liked their SP and albeit it probably was not the performance they wanted, the FP is so good, it will be so good.
Yuchen Wang/Yihang Huang - SP Go now / FP Love ranger The SP was really beautiful and the second half of their FP was also good.
Cheng Peng/Yang Jin - SP Somewhere in time / FP Cloud Atlas There’s only one word. Amazing. Both programs.
Men
I saw him for the first time (as the majority of the participants) but I really liked Yudong Chen. His SP to Canned heat was fun and his FP to The big sleep, Mickmacs was even better. The choreography was interesting, there was a story. And it was fun. Oh yess!
Zhiming Peng’s SP to Smells like teen spirit by Nirvana was also good. And I especially liked his Matrix reloaded FP. He slowly got into it in the first half and the second half was so energetic.
Boyang Jin. Boyang is such a cool and cute skater. I liked both of his programs. (Trio 1 in D, Mechanisms - SP; House of the rising sun - FP). I would be so happy for him if he won a medal at home Olympics.
Han Yan.
.... I’m not breathing.
Han Yan is perfection. Han Yan fliiiiiieeeeeesssssss in the air. Han Yan is elegance. Han Yan is maturity on the ice. Han Yan is wearing shirts. Han Yan is skating to La La Land. I love La La Land programs. They just instantly lift up your mood.
Ice dance
Again, I loved them aaaaalllllll.
Yufei Liu/Zijian Gao (Mask, Chorus Line / Twilight) They are so young, it was their first international competition and they did really well.
Yuzhu Guo/Pengkun Zhao (Sing, sing, sing, Bei mir bist du schoen / Twilight) I liked their RD. Just the right mood for this (and last season’s) RD.
Wanqi Ning/Chao Wang (Mary Poppins / Mozart L’opera Rock) I love them and I absolutely love their programs! With Mary Poppins you can do no wrong (also I miss Orihara/Pirinen’s Mary Poppins). And the FP! Just watch please ;)
Hong Chen/Zhuoming Sun (The greatest showman/I will wait for you) And here I came to a conclusion that The greatest showman is really so much better for ice dance (or pairs) than men singles (don’t worry my baby, Matteo, I will love you no matter what)
Shiyue Wang/Xinyu Liu (Charlie Chaplin/Black Swan) Yay they kept their programs! Their Chaplin is one of my favourites. And there are many Chaplins :D It’s just so playful and their facial expressions thorough the program are golden. Also I had no idea, but Xinyu broke his hand two months ago, he got two plates and eleven nails into his hand and they had to make many changes to the programs so that they worked even with his hand. (basically we got Marco Fabbri 2.0 situation).

VR mainly relies on realistic visual feedback to provide an immersive experience that is only accessible to sighted people. Most VR applications are not accessible for people with low vision (i.e., a visual impairment that cannot be corrected by eyeglasses or contact lenses), preventing them from benefiting from this important class of emerging technology. In this talk, I’ll describe my research collaboration with Microsoft, which focused on designing technologies to make VR accessible for people with low vision, as well as discussing design guidelines for accessible VR. I addressed VR accessibility from both the user and the developer’s perspectives: designing a post hoc plugin to modify existing VR applications in runtime; and providing a Unity toolkit that allows integrating low vision support tools during development. In my talk, I will discuss the experiences and challenges that people with low vision have for VR, as well as the technologies I designed to increase VR accessibility. I will also reflect on general accessibility guidelines for VR. Just picturing a random acquaintance of clh's pointing out zyh like "it's him! That playboy second-generation ancestor! They say he never dates the same girl twice!" bc rumors about his love life have gotten so out of control lol
lmaooo just imagine him looking all wide-eyed and teary about it. "me?" he'd say, hands pressed to his chest. "a playboy?" he can't believe it. he is so ready to get wifed up. he wants to be the prince to some fair maiden's princess and live a happily-ever-after and yet. how dare!!!!!
in all seriousness, this is definitely part of his reputation. he's managed to avoid it being the only thing people know about him due to sheer force-of-personality and charisma. he's capable of joking about it, but yeah, it absolutely makes him upset.

WIP Wednesday:
transmigrated as the female lead's villain fiance
hi there, happy late wip wednesday. here you are!
“How nice,” Yang Haoran said in what he thought was a perfectly pleasant tone of voice. Zhao Yuhang’s expression indicated that he was probably wrong about that. “A-Hao...” he said, pained. “...Sorry.” That tone of voice, that look on his face, they always looked so unpleasant on Zhao Yuhang. Some people were just built to be happy; Yang Haoran didn’t like ruining that. He cleared his throat. “I can try that again.” “That’s not what I--” “How nice!” Yang Haoran said cheerfully. It sounded good, but of course it did --- Yang Haoran was very good at sounding good. He must actually be pretty drunk, if he couldn’t even manage to be dead neutral enough to keep Zhao Yuhang smiling. Zhao Yuhang’s expression did not improve. “Don’t -- it’s not --” “Don’t what?” Yang Haoran said. “Did I say something wrong? I didn’t say anything. I’m not doing anything.” “You’re doing...” Zhao Yuhang made a loose, abstract gesture in the air. “The thing.” “What thing?”

pls tell me zyh is a trans ally... sick of the reflexive "ew" + cringe characters in cnovels do every time they learn someone has gone to thailand for a sex change... don't want to see yhr and crew go "well you're not a REAL man/woman/nonbinary bc of X" or w/e...
sorry this took a bit, seems like it was lost in my drafts, but yeah, defo. who do you think i am, wren.
even at his very worst, zhao yuhang's still going to be "slightly confused, but supportive". dude's fundamentally a pretty accepting guy. trans rights, yo.
he probably wouldn't even blink at the idea of dating a trans lady, and the only reason i'm leery to say he's actually dated one is because then you have someone very close to him that can act as a pathway into the more general queer community, which means by sheer exposure, he's probably going to have a clearer idea of his own sexuality. which isn't allowed! that's against the og plot's character setting lmaooooo

you said that zhao yuhang has been "doing regular, outrageous, dramatically over-the-top flirting with his best friend for 8 goddamn years" such as "You don’t think you’ll be important enough for people to know your name? But you’re so important in my heart, A-Hao! Everyone should know who you are!" would you perhaps give us more examples? - (òvó)
Haha, latched onto that, did you?
Have you, perhaps, ever watched Ouran High School Host Club?
It's pretty much like that.
It's the kind of flirting you'd expect of high school boys who have way too much time on their hands who want to entertain high school girls who also have way too much time on their hands. It's the cheesiest pickup lines, it's the flowery descriptors, it's roses and chocolates and getting on your knees to kiss the hand of the fair beauty who is, of course, the fairest of them all, and of course you tell them that.
Zhao Yuhang is doing that to Yang Haoran. Yang Haoran happily goes along with it -- and that's the reason why it escalated as far as it did, because as teenagers, they egged each other on until it reached ridiculous extents.
It's kind of leveled off as they got older, but it's still there. There are some husband-and-wife, boyfriend-and-girlfriend jokes. Zhao Yuhang presses Yang Haoran's hand dramatically to his chest and Yang Haoran asks if Zhao Yuhang thinks he's pretty. Though these kinds of moments aren't uncommon, they're brief enough and exaggerated enough that they can be read as bros messing with each other, but. Eh.
In the back of his mind, Zhao Yuhang knows it’s flirting, but it doesn't really... consciously register. This is partly because of the fact that he doesn't see Yang Haoran as a valid romantic option, and partly because the universe doesn't want him to see Yang Haoran as a valid romantic option. That would ruin the plot, you see?

villain fiance for wip wednesday?
“No,” Zhao Yuhang said decidedly, much to Yang Haoran’s disappointment. Maybe he didn’t want to look like an overgrown child with his mouth all blue, which Yang Haoran would have loved to see for once – but then again, Zhao Yuhang probably wouldn’t have needed to worry about that in the first place.
Zhao Yuhang would somehow make it look good, because that was the thing about Zhao Yuhang: photogenic, from every possible angle, 100% of the time. He’d once been hit in the face with an entire cake and the entire process had looked like some heavily edited commercial that a company had spent millions on. The concept of an unflattering aesthetic simply did not exist for Zhao Yuhang, which was unfair on so many levels.
