How about ‘ i have to leave you behind. i’m sorry. ’ for any pairing of your choice? :)
Then you are a fool!
The walk back to his room happened in a long and dull blur. Aedan realized the lamp he carried had  choked out somewhere along the way, black greasy smoke from the warm oil making his stomach churn. His ears buzzed with low static, no one thought standing clear enough in his mind to be heard above others. Or maybe, just one did: a prayer to the Maker not to let him run into Alistair on the way. He couldn't have met his eyes if he did, which would have arisen suspicions, suspicions Aedan was in no state to defend himself against, not right then.
He needed all his strength for what came next.
Zevran wasn't sleeping – of course not. Who could have, on a night like this? Legs folded against his chest, he sat at the edge of the bed instead, watching Denerim from the window, playing absent-mindedly with Dog's ears. Waiting for him.
Soft blonde locks shifted as he turned, a golden tangle over his shoulder. Treasure Aedan ought to have left alone, instead of letting his greedy hands reach for it, again and again. If he'd shown some restraint in the matter, perhaps they wouldn't have to be where they were right then.
But he hadn’t, and there they were.
“So?”
Naked feet, silent on the cold stone. Dancer steps, Zevran's, in all circumstances. Aedan had to lock his jaw not to break right there and then.
“What did Morrigan want?”
Coming up with a lie had been easy, and telling it would be too – Aedan had told so many by then. Still, he didn't answer right away. He'd made his choice. He just wanted a moment longer.
Zevran closed his eyes when Aedan's hand cupped his face. Deep lines creased the space under them. He was so tired. He'd probably felt the bad news coming and was bracing himself.
Who could hurt one such man? After all he’d already been through, who could leave him behind?
Aedan, apparently.
I'm sorry, Zev.
“I don't know. She left.”
