A Big Mac-over for McDonalds: The Pledge to Help  End Deforestation

Attention world! One of the world’s largest fast food restaurants has agreed to help end deforestation! This place is McDonalds.  As of Tuesday April 21st, 2015, this fast food franchise has promised to end any action of deforestation that happens throughout its supply chain as a way to prevent any more carbon emissions from going into the atmosphere.  Throughout the article the company is praised multiple times for taking an action to help protect the Earth from further environmental damage while at the same time respecting human rights; however, concerns have also came up on how successful this plan will be. One critique has been how they will be sure to monitor that no part of their production processes will in fact support deforestation on any level through business.  Other problems addressed were even if they do completely switch over to alternative sources such as sustainable palm oil (rather than regular palm oil) there are limited supply of these alternatives, which could leading to more problems in both possibly the short and long term future. The company also stated this plan will be taken into effect immediately, but apparently this may not be put into action for another 5 to 15 years.  Hopefully this process will happen instantly, but even if it takes some time, just attempting to take such an action could strongly influence the rest of the world, especially other businesses, to consider going more eco-friendly as well. Good job McDonalds, this announcement, bahbahbahbahbah...I’m lovin’ it! ;)

It’s when the image of something divine becomes the basis of a religion that the nature of the religion is lost. These misconceived images become something to hold on to, something that displays to others our disbelief in reality. Once we detach ourselves from conceptions and doctrines about the definitive images of religion we will come closer to what existence really is. My favourite person to ever create anything is René Magritte. The Belgian rebel surrealist. He resented the association with the French Surrealism movement after some of them accused him of creating art that was too realistic and contrived. He was a disciplined artist who did not identify with the illustrative automatism that the Surrealists worshipped. -- He wrote this of his painting 'Hegel's Holiday' in 1958: -- "My latest painting began with the question: how to show a glass of water in a painting in such a way that it would not be indifferent? Or whimsical, or arbitrary, or weak - but, allow us to use the word, with genius? (Without false modesty.) I began by drawing many glasses of water, always with a linear mark on the glass. This line, after the 100th or 150th drawing, widened out and finally took the form of an umbrella. The umbrella was then put into the glass, and to conclude, underneath the glass. Which is the exact solution to the initial question: how to paint a glass of water with genius. I then thought that Hegel (another genius) would have been very sensitive to this object which has two opposing functions: at the same time not to admit any water (repelling it) and to admit it (containing it). With strict guidelines from the trees of the tropics I have been granted permission to release this print in limited numbers. 🤣 -- The Wet Tropics is home to home to nearly half of Australia's bird species, the World Heritage Area harbours more than 370 bird species. Of these, thirteen species are known to be strictly endemic to The Wet Tropics, found nowhere else in the world, with 9 of them from the uplands and the other 4 ranging down to lower altitudes. -- The forests of The Wet Tropics are living museums. They contain the most complete and diverse living records of the major stages of evolution in the world. Its rainforests are remnants of Gondwanan forests from 60 million years ago and some species have survived and exist here today as the closest relatives to ancient Australian songbirds. It is thought that bird song originated in this bioregion. -- The 13 Endemic Birds of The Wet Tropics are illustrated here in a large A2 limited edition archival print which is annotated to denote the species in their respective form.
