Astro: Pardon me for prying, but what sort of creatures are you protecting the forest from?
Astro: Or do I have it backwards, and are you protecting the outsiders in the forest from the creatures inside the forest?
Inuyasha: Well, it's both, really. This forest isn't exactly the safest place for just anyone wandering through.
Inuyasha: But there're also ponies who would try to take advantage of this place and only end up tearing it apart.
@ask-wizard-sunburst: What are you protecting the forest from? Do you get many bad ponies or monsters?
Inuyasha: Sure, bandits try to come through here sometimes looking to cause trouble.
Inuyasha: Mostly I end up dealing with-

These guys were super fun to draw and I ended up really proud of the way they both turned out! This is the first time I've ever heard of an opinicus, let alone draw one, so that was fun! And Sunburst is one of my personal fave canon ponies in terms of design and personality.
I could have broken this one down more than I did, instead of making it so much flipping text at once, but... well it flowed nicely in my head... Plus I know where it's going next! And it's going to be a more art intensive micro-arc so it might take me a while to churn out. We'll see!

"Hey, Rainy! It's been a while, huh? I've been a bit busy, going back and forth between the Opinician Republic and Equestria. I've got my own team in the Weather Patrol now, isn't that cool? Sometime, I've got to pay you a visit and give you a great big hug. Tell Gren and your parents hi for me, and I hope I can find time to see you, soon!" - Zephyr the Opinicus
A letter from Zephyr! Alright, I gotta right a good reply...
"Zephyr! Congratulations on your own team! I'm sure the skies of the Opinicus Republic are in good paws! I'll be sure to tell the fam, they'll love to hear it!
Quartz has joined me on my response team full-time, so I've been able to hang out with her more than ever, and I never know what adventures come next. I'd love if you could come along sometimes!
Hugs, Rainbow Feather!"

@zephyr-the-opinicus liked for a starter! The City of Canterlot - the cultural melting pot of many cultures, where ponies of all walks could come in and blend right into sophistication. ..At least, that’s what most ponies proclaimed it as. Gordon, however, saw it for what it was worth: A cobble-laid frenzy to navigate, especially by wing-travel. Especially so if you were serving as a mail delivering griffon who lived by his lonesome self, living a slow slog in the early days of adulthood. Sure, he had found a nest of his own - and began those first steps into independence.. ..But yet, at what cost? He wasn’t happy. He just showed it to the public. A sigh escaped him as he rounded the corner, trying to free himself of the public scorn.
“Just hold on.. One day, Gordon..” He’d mutter, counting the mere scraps of coin in his pouch. It wasn’t much; but just enough to get by. It was this, and the music running through his little walkman that kept him going - a mix of tunes created just before he’d left home to go on his own..

Hello! I have a bit of a question. I'm working on writing a fantasy world where there's magic and technology- I've got a few domains set up, and I'm tending to have a bit of trouble with the tech level of the mixed domains. I have an area that's technically a mixed domain, but the tech and magical aspects are heavily segregated- no guns in magic areas, no magic in tech areas, etc... Could I get some help with this? I could easily explain the levels of segregation if you wanted me to.
"Okay, essentially I have a world where there's magic and technology. Some areas prefer magic, while others prefer technology. In book, these areas are classified into domains.Naturally, magical domains have magic and little to no modern technology, while technological domains have futuristic technology but no magic. The issue I'm wondering about is in regards to the mixed domains- I have no idea how much magic or technology is right in areas- the only thing I really know is that there's magic, and the technological level is on par with modern day earth.I don't want one side or the other to be more dominant, if it's at all feasible to balance it."
Constablewrites: The "prefer" makes it sound like these rules are set by people rather than being some sort of law of nature. Which means the balance point is wherever those characters plausibly want it to be. Maybe they're okay with some types of magic but not others. Maybe they forbid weapons tech but are okay with anything that doesn't hurt people. Maybe it's more about resources and it's just about what someone is able to get their hands on.
Werew: One way to limit is to make the two mutually exclusive. The Harry Potter world used that; it was explained briefly that too much magical energy totally screws up electricity, making it impossible to have functional electronics in a place like Hogwarts. Maybe something like that could work on a sliding scale. Maybe there could even be enforcers in mixed areas that keep magic users under certain regulations so all the tech doesn't randomly shut down?
Another way would be to tie the ability for magic to function to regions; maybe the ones that are tech-heavy are that way because outside magical energy isn't accessible in that area.
Synth: Or link it to the people who live there. Can just about anyone use magic in some form, or is it limited to a subset of the population? If it isn't just anybody who can sling magic around, are those who can do so likely to hang out pretty exclusively with other magic-users? Do techies shun the mages? If both the magic- and tech-users are likely to hang out with only their own kind and possibly be a bit mistrusting/wary of the other, that's another way of keeping magical and technological areas sort of separated.

@zephyr-the-opinicus
“Oh! Thank you!” Zephyr replied, with a smile, taking a seat across from the writer. “Yeah, there aren’t many other tables available- for some reason this place is crazy popular around this time of day.” Zephyr responded.
“My name is Zephyr- I’m the tornado containment specialist in the Equestrian Weather Patrol,” He answered. “And I’m pretty likely to be one of the few opinicus you meet,” Zephyr replied. “Pleased to meet you, Senkou- and to answer your question, it’s a bit complicated. I come here for work, typically to visit the weather patrol’s office, but I don’t come here often. I do know my way around, though.”
Zephyr didn’t pry into what Senkou was working on- mostly because he was grateful enough to get a seat in the shade at an otherwise pretty overcrowded cafe.
Senkou nodded slowly in agreement, forgetting to respond to Zephyrs observation of the crowded cafe, as he was just.. trying to figure out what Zephyr even was. Which might’ve been rude. Normally the pegasus would catch himself before performing rude stares, but today he was quite distracted.
Blue eyes widened, however, when Zephyr himself had answered his quiry without being prompted, “OH! Excuse me, but that’s what you are, an Opinicus. Yeah... Yeah you’re right, you’re the first I’ve ever seen. At least, face-to-face.” He chuckled a bit weakly, half relieved to finally know the answer, and half slightly embarrassed for being so easily confused or amazed.
“So, just a visitor here in Cloudsdale, huh? I’d offer to show you around if you didn’t already know things around here.” Senkou’s politeness returned as he smiled pleasantly, gently rolling his quill back and forth under his hoof without really thinking about it, “Well it’s very nice to meet you, Zephyr. Hope you’re finding your latest visit to be pleasant. Though, if you don’t mind me asking... Where are you from?” Hesitating only for a moment, the pegasus figured he’d add, “I’ve lived in Cloudsdale all my life, but lately been feeling a... I guess you’d call it a wander lust? So I’m curious about learning of different places to visit. Were you born in Equestria, or some other nation?”

Zephyr and Astro come bounding over as soon as they get word that Rainbow Feather has met another opinicus variant of herself. "Greetings!" Astro calls, while Zephyr goes with a more conventional opinician greeting. <Mrow!> "A pleasure to meet you! I am Astro, this is Zephyr- we're both friends of Rainbow Feather," he gestures to Medic!Feather with a forepaw.
"Uh, nice," Opinicus Feather greets, "I'm also Rainbow Feather."
It's fairly clear she's less used to formal greetings. If one had to describe her intros, it's almost Gilda-esque.
"Nice to meet some other Opinicus, I guess! You visitors to this world too?"

"Good afternoon, Sweetie Belle! I haven't been around much- but how about we go get some ice cream?" Zephyr asked the young pony. 🍦
send me 🍦 to go out for ice cream with my muse! @zephyr-the-opinicus
♦♦ - Oh! An old friend wanting to go get ice cream? How could she say no? She practically couldn’t… the word alone got the filly exited with a skip in her step.
“Sure!! You’re paying, right?”

Zephyr traveled along the well-trodden road towards Griffonstone. His journey had been long, and as the day was ending, he found himself at the gates of a town near the boarder of the griffon kingdoms. A sign on the gate read "Ma'hatma". The name seemed familar- didn't his friend Gordon mention having family here? He partially wondered if his griffon friend in Ponyville had mentioned him to his family back home at all. He entered the village, looking around as the sun set.
The village itself had been a melting pot of various cultures; if the distinct variety in the citizens were any example. Ponies, zebras, fellow griffons and a distinct number of Sphinxes could be seen wandering around the late hours of the day - well on the way home from long day at work.Amongst them could be seen Gordon’s father; who had just now set out on the nightly patrol, coming out from the alleyway - purple eyes pondering around, watching the various others as they went along, before noticing Zephyr. A newer arrival to the village, perhaps?
“..Good evening, citizen.”

Zephyr headed through Cloudsdale. He had stopped by the Weather Patrol HQ for a brief, casual meeting with one of the higher ups. They were impressed with his work, but were confused as to why he wasn't accepting any awards or recognition. He simply said he didn't want the attention, and that he was perfectly happy just doing his job. On his way out, he stopped at a cafe for lunch- the only table left was across from a bright maned, bright grey pegasus. "...Sorry, do you mind if I sit here?"
Sitting in the coffee shop, Senkou honestly looked like… one of those douchey “artists” that made a point of writing in public… He’d been sitting at the cafe for a little under an hour now, a long scroll being unfolded over the table as a red quill was in his mouth. Both the scroll and quill actually resembled his cutiemark in color, funnily enough. Truthfully the colt had always preferred a red quill simply due to the color on his flank, but this detail was far from Senkou’s mind at the moment.
Blue eyes focused on the scroll, and slightly narrowed in deep thought, Senkou’s whole world was focused on what to write next. Ergh, it sucked to feel stuck… He sighed heavily, slumping his chin into his hoof, gently turning the quill in his mouth a few times. The colts ears perked forward and eyes widened when he heard a voice, seemingly directed right at him, and immediately Senkou was greeted with the sight of a stranger, brows raising a fraction in surprise. For a short moment, he’d almost forgotten his manners, more intrigued by the sight of a… griffon? No… No this wasn’t a griffon, though the colts first mental assumption was to assume he was a griffon, but there were some notable differences.
Quickly realizing that he’d forgotten to answer, Senkou briefly fumbled over his words, quill dropping from his mouth as he spoke, “O-Oh! Yeah, sure! Er, no, I mean I don’t mind. Go right ahead.” The colt offered a friendly smile to the stranger, more than happy to share the table… After a moment of looking around the cafe, he’d realized why he had asked to sit here. It seemed very few tables were available… Huh. How had he not noticed before? Turning his gaze back to the opinicus, Senkou once again offered his smile, properly introducing himself, “My names Senkou. Are you new here in Cloudsdale?”
