J’ai fini hier le dernier roman d’Alice Zeniter, et le premier que je lis d’elle. Oui, c’est incompréhensible mais je n’ai toujours pas lu L’art de perdre.

En revanche, j’avais été éblouie par son spectacle Je suis une fille sans histoire, écrit et joué par elle-même.

Pour synthétiser grossièrement, on pourrait dire qu’Alice Zeniter est une femme extraordinairement intelligente, un peu comme Zadie Smith à mes yeux. Où qu’elle soit, où qu’elle regarde, elle apporte un éclairage inhabituel, très personnel et lumineux. C’est presque intimidant.

Là, j’ai été très contente de la lire sur le sujet de la Nouvelle-Calédonie car je savais à peine où ça se trouvait et méconnaissais totalement l’histoire de ce territoire outre-mer ; elle s’amuse d’ailleurs au début de cette ignorance plus ou moins généralisée des métropolitains sur cette île si lointaine à laquelle on peine à rattacher une figure célèbre, une géographie… malgré les remous assez actuels.

Mais Alice Zeniter c’est une bosseuse, et le récit des origines, ça la passionne. Alors elle s’est largement documentée, et elle y est allée. Sur le Caillou.

Elle en revient avec ce récit assez copieux et foisonnant, qui dès le titre, annonce vouloir secouer le lyrisme habituel de la conquête des territoires ; en effet, on a du mal à trouver les vrais héros de cette histoire de colonisation, puisqu’au fond, il s’agit bien de cela.

En la lisant, j’ai appris une foule de choses. J’ai pleinement mesuré le racisme auquel les Kanaks ont été confrontés, auquel sans doute ils doivent toujours être renvoyés ; l’idée de l’autrice c’est en effet, que même auprès des bagnards d’ailleurs, eux-mêmes colonisés (par exemple les algériens envoyés là-bas plutôt qu’en Guyane où l’on meurt trop vite), ils ont subi du rejet, comme s’ils étaient la lie de l’humanité… terrible…

Mais, malgré les coups audacieux du récit, les surprises et les inventions de l’autrice, j’ai trouvé que le roman se faisait un peu « manger » par la dimension historique et politique. J’ai eu un peu de peine à me passionner pour Tass, le personnage a priori principal. Je pense que la part politique et historique l’emportent, un peu sur le dos du romanesque, voire même du style. Un peu comme si elle était partie dans tous les sens, un peu comme si son esprit brillant et fourmillant d’idées (et de visions) avait eu du mal à tout « digérer » à travers la fiction en quelque sorte. Je ne sais pas si je suis très claire, ni très juste. C’est une impression. J’ai été décontenancée, au fond, ce qui n’est jamais mauvais en soi… mais je crois que j’aurais voulu plus ressentir les choses plutôt que de les comprendre. Oui. Ça c’est assez proche de mon ressenti. Bref, je continue d’être éblouie par son esprit, sa vivacité, son culot, j’ai une immense estime pour ce qui jaillit de son cerveau, mais je ne crois pas que c’est un livre qui ait éveillé beaucoup de sentiments en moi. Un peu comme le dernier Zadie Smith. CQFD.

last--his appearance, duhhh. if i could look like a man i'd want to look like him, this is a known fact. he's got just the right vibe of strong, confident masculinity and the fucking shoulder/back/arm situation is 🔥

least favorite thing about him: ...do you hear me heaving a heavy sigh? lol. i won't go into the graphic details, but the amount of time i've spent being his pro bono defense attorney when it's not deserved! (some things are also not worthy of defending.)

i remember there was a post a while back that said something like "whatever your special interest was at the beginning of the pandemic is always going to have a weird level of significance to you." and at first i was like doesnt apply to me--football was my thing before the pandemic, and it still is. but then i remembered that the pandemic hit just as i was developing an interest in this fool 😂 i guess that explains everything.

Hello there. I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy the episode. It always sucks when that happens. But please don’t equate your personal enjoyment of something to the quality of the thing. Now, I’m studying Creative Writing and Film at University, so the quality of writing and filmmaking is actually something I know a thing or two about. Was this episode perfect? No, no it wasn’t. Did I enjoy everything about it? No, I wish some things were different. But I can still acknowledge what a well made episode it was. There are films and shows I love that I know are absolute rubbish. There are films and shows I hate that I know are actually really good, but I don’t enjoy at all.

The idea of it was to be experimental and they achieved that. It was a Buck-centric episode reflecting on his familial relationships. I don’t know how anyone can fault the acting. The camera work, editing and writing all achieved exactly what it set out to do. Maybe I’ll do some proper analysis of this epidsode at some point, but I’m very busy and would need to rewatch the episode a few times, so it’ll probably have to wait for it to become available on Disney+ in my country (If anyone is interested in this please do let me know!) If you didn’t like what the episode set out to do, then of course you’re not going to enjoy it.

The episode was well made. It doesn’t deserve the reputation of Ghost Stories which they have admitted was thrown together last minute due to unforseen circumstances. The cast and crew do not deserve this hate. They’re proud of the episode and most of the hate isn’t genuine criticism. They don’t deserve to go online and see something they’re proud of torn to shreds because fans didn’t get eenough of the ship or character they wanted. It does not deserve to be review bombed.

As for viewership ratings: it’s still one of Fox’s darlings. It’s not at risk of being cancelled. I’ll also bet the show does pretty well on Hulu and Disney+ internationally. But then again, if you don’t like the direction the show is going in, why do you care if it gets cancelled?

Anyway, have a good day. I hope you do find some enjoyment out of the show. But if you don’t, I hope you do what’s right for you. Maybe you’ll find some other content that brings you joy.

Day 4- goblins! Since kobolds are different in base game Fabula Ultima, I've decided to diverge from conventional (read: D&D) goblins as well. Where goblins in most fantasy settings are a race of humanoids, these ones are closer to trickster spirits or mischievous sprites, but they do exist in a sort of Schrödinger's cat state of being actual things themselves or just the physical avatar of said spirits and sprites made from ˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ magic ˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗

These gobbos (excluding the redcap) are more on the annoying side; I tried to build them like pranksters or petty thieves more than potential bandits and such. A group of regular goblins and pickpockets has the potential of burning through a party's IP and zenit in a heartbeat, so watch out for that when mixing them up with other creatures.

Dejan doesn’t feel right on the plane home after losing to Dortmund, even though he knows he played his best and more.  He gave his all for his new team, and he’s proud of it.

It’s his captain, though, the one who takes up as much space in Dejan’s head as he does everywhere else he goes.  He hasn’t been right the past few games, and today he was barely there all alone on the attack, just a ghost in his white away kit.  That’s not how a captain should be, and Dejan doesn’t want to see it happen anymore.  He’s not worried or anything.  He just doesn’t want to see it, that’s all.
